The camp is calling and oh boy are we answering in this weeks episode of Staff Picks - the show where we dive into some of our favorite films lacking in the commentary department. This week we're talking all things 1980's 'Friday the 13th' with our friend Pizowell. We get into the long enduring legacy of the films impact on the genre, the upcoming A24 television prequel, and much, much more. Enjoy!

Freddy fans, rejoice! On this Deep Cuts episode of Beyond the Blood we sit down with author & journalist Lowell Greenblatt to discuss his book 'Nightmare Autopsis: A Return to Elm Street' released last year by Harker Press. We discuss the impact of the 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' franchise and what went into creating as comprehensive a study of the franchise as there ever could be plus his experiences interviewing and compiling everything (and there's a lot) that built this incredible book.

Stuart Gordon's 'Re-Animator' is extremely special to us here at Beyond the Blood and to add this episode into an early season of the shows lifetime is incredible to say. In this episode, we breakdown the commentary track featuring Stuart Gordon from one of the films many physical releases. It seems as if this commentary track was recorded around 2004 - 2005 but when we talk about how much there is to learn through this track - we mean it. This is an astounding audio commentary and we hope you go beyond this episode and give this a listen on the Ignite 4...

Staff Picks returns with a doozy of an episode this week as we break into a discussion about Chris Nash's 2024 film 'In A Violent Nature' - a favorite of the past few years for the Beyond the Blood crew. Along with our guest - Christian from PlanetCHH - we get into all types of conversation around IAVN including some push back on the infamous yoga kill, how the films unique perspective will impact the genre moving forward, it's influences worn proudly on it's sleeves and much, much more!

On this episode of 'Behind the Blood' we sat down with Guido & Lucas Henkel - the duo behind the boutique label Celluloid Dreams. We spend a lot of time talking about 1972's 'The Case of the Bloody Iris' (you can find our full coverage on that film in the previous episode) but their incredible insights into the restoration process, special features production, and how to build an audio commentary track plus all the additional physical media anecdotes here made this one of the most fun and educational discussions we've had on the show. A massive thank you to Guido & Lucas...

The discussion around us covering the audio commentary track for 1972's 'The Case of the Bloody Iris' was one that began nearly a year ago so you can imagine our excitement to finally get this film added into the history books of Beyond the Blood! On this episode, we deep dove into Guido Henkel's incredible commentary track on Celluloid Dream's stunning 4K release. As always, we encourage you to grab this release and give the full track a listen - you're not going to regret this one if you're a Giallo fan. Never forgot: physical media is education.

Today we're joined by none other than author Clark Collis who, in the later half of 2025, released his newest book 'Screaming and Conjuring: The Resurrection and Unstoppable Rise of the Modern Horror Movie' through 1984 Publishing. An exhaustive look into a span of 17 years of the horror genre beginning with 1996's 'Scream' and ending in 2013 with the release of 'The Conjuring'. Clark's incredible genre insight lead a very fun conversation about the most impactful era of horror for our hosts.

A gigantic thank you to 1984 Publishing for providing us with a review copy of 'Screaming and Conjuring' for this p...

Where we're going, you're going to need ears.. because we're dissecting the 2006 audio commentary with director Paul WS Anderson & Producer Jeremy Bolt for 1997's space horror film 'Event Horizon' found on most physical media releases of the film including the Scream Factory blu-ray release & Lionsgate 4K.

We had a blast getting into this commentary track and throughout this episode we discuss the lost director's cut of the film, the many elements of effects both practical and CGI throughout the movie, some of Paul Anderson's thoughts on the rushed production of the film and SO much more. We had...

Look, we live for physical media here at Beyond the Blood and that's why we're back for a brand new episode of After Hours - our physical media show!

As children of the 90's we all grew up in the aisles of our local video stores and through that Staff Picks was born - a less deep dive conversation into some of our favorite horror films with a fun guest and for our first episode we are blessed with the presence of Erica Higgins - yes, Chris's wife.

We talk about some of our history with the film, the movies within the movie, and chat about some fun categories. Please be ready for a much less detailed excursion into the film in comparison to our primary commentary e...

Welcome to Staff Picks!

This is the Beyond the Blood spin-off show where we focus more on fun conversations about horror films and less on all of the research normally done for our staple episodes - but with all of the fun!

For this first episode we're going to the theatre on a school assignment for 1991's 'Popcorn' and who better to join us than Chris's wife Erica to talk about one of her favorite underseen horror films of the 90's. We talk about the films incredible theatre settings, the phenomenal films within the film, and ho...

This incredibly special episode of Beyond the Blood is the exact reason we started this show - diving into the heart of building physical media. We're joined today by Dave Lee (Co-Producer of 'Monsters & Curiosities) and Jake Boston of Steelbook Obsessed (Contributor) to get an insiders look at the building of Umbrella Entertainment's upcoming Universal Horror Collection - 'Monsters and Curiosities' - a remarkable physical collection containing 45-films and a 100+ page book!

Building this set wasn't all sunshine and rainbows though as you'll hear about some of the major obstacles faced during the construction of this set that h...

We're so glad to be back in swing this year with After Hours - our physical media based discussion show! In this episode, we were joined by our good friend Jordan from The Movie Den to talk about a bunch of stuff we've been watching on physical media over the last month. We dive into the found footage subgenre with Umbrella's release of 'Lake Mungo' on 4K, some Vinegar Syndrome / Melusine goodness with their recent release of 'Behind the Green Door' and 'Sliver', talk about some recent Arrow Video upgrades and so much more!

As always, our After H...

Season 3 of Beyond the Blood is here and oh boy do we have a fun one for you all today as we dive into the sick, cruel world of Sergio Martino's 1973 giallo 'Torso' and the films commentary track hosted by Kat Ellinger featured on the 4K release by Arrow Video.

Today's guest is none other than Ryan Verill, one of the founders of Antenna Releasing and physical media page The Discconnected! He's also one of the founders of this very podcast network - Someone's Favorite Productions.

Beyond the Blood is officially in it's 2nd year of existence and before we take the official dive into our third season Steve and I felt it was best - as incredibly passionate advocates of physical media - to chat about our favorite releases of 2025. Somehow we managed to vary it up between the two of us and celebrate the physical discs we loved so much.

Season 3 officially begins in just a few days.. we'll see you there!
