The 2026 D-Ticket Awards: And the Nominees Are...
Awards season is officially underway. The 2026 D-Ticket Awards return November 30, but first, it’s time to reveal this year’s nominees. Stephen, Kaity, Jenny, and Marissa announce all 20 audience-voted categories, celebrating the very best in Imagineering, themed entertainment, Disney Parks, and a few achievements the industry has somehow failed to recognize until now.
From genuine Imagineering breakthroughs to manmade rocks, supporting ceilings, ride vehicles with main character energy, and one extremely competitive hairstyle, the ballot is officially open. Voting runs through November 16, and every vote is anonymous. We picked the field. You decide what gets the D-Ticket.
Idiot’s Guide to Halloween
Happy Halloween, HallowIdiots!
We’re celebrating Halloween the IGTI way. Stephen and Marissa are bringing back the attraction they created live with all of you, this time as a fully produced ride experience. Then Amanda, Jenny, Marissa, and Stephen put some beloved Disney attractions on the chopping block in Kill It, Keep It, Haunt It.
One gets destroyed. One stays exactly as it is. And one gets a Halloween overlay. Choose carefully.
Plus, we’re officially welcoming Hannah Hood, Senior Travel Advisor with ConciEARS, as IGTI’s travel partner...
Why Lakeshore Lodge Has Us Rethinking Disney Theming
Lakeshore Lodge has been called generic, sterile, and even proof that Disney resort theming is disappearing.
But the more Disney reveals, the less convinced we are.
In this offseason conversation, Stephen and Jenny look at what Lakeshore Lodge might be telling us about the future of Disney resort design, from its playful new recreation spaces and nature-driven storytelling to its contemporary architecture, DVC influence, and complicated relationship with Fort Wilderness.
Along the way, we dig into a bigger question inspired by Joe Rohde’s approach to design: what does “theme” actually mean? Is it the...
Why Disney Believe Feels So Familiar
Disney Believe has plenty of new ideas. It also arrives in a fleet where comparison is unavoidable.
In this offseason conversation, Stephen, Kaity, and Jenny look beyond the reveal itself to ask why a ship filled with genuinely exciting additions can still feel surprisingly familiar.
From returning anchor experiences like Worlds of Marvel, 1923, and Haunted Mansion Parlor to new additions including a Snow White lounge, Little Mermaid piano bar, Zootopia entertainment venue, and Moana-inspired Grand Hall, we dig into how repetition, placement, guest perspective, and Disney’s own reveal strategy shape our perception of what fe...
2026 Fall Fundraiser: Give Kids The World Village
This fall, the ImaginIdiots are coming together for Give Kids The World Village.
Give Kids The World is an 89-acre nonprofit resort in Kissimmee, Florida, providing weeklong, cost-free vacations to children with critical illnesses and their families.
From September 28 through November 16, our goal is to raise $1,000 to support the incredible experiences they create for wish families.
In this special episode, Kaity, Stephen, and Marissa share more about the Village, why this organization feels so connected to the things we talk about every week, and what can happen when a...
State of the Kingdom: Q3 2026
One month after D23, Disney’s announced future is already starting to take clearer shape.
In our Q3 State of the Kingdom, we check in on what’s opened, what’s going vertical, and what’s changed since Disney laid out its latest roadmap. From The Magic of Disney Animation and Tropical Americas to Monstropolis, Piston Peak, Space Mountain Earthrise and a newly updated Toy Story Land attraction, we’re looking at the details becoming real across the parks.
Then, we turn to the technology and rumors we’re watching, including a possible helicopter t...
Why Piston Peak Might Be Imagineering’s Most Interesting New Project
Piston Peak surprised us.
After seeing the model at D23, what stood out wasn’t just the rides. It was the place itself: the mountains, water, trails, architecture, sightlines, and the way this unlikely Cars-meets-national-parks idea suddenly felt completely believable.
In this offseason conversation, Stephen and Kaity dig into why Piston Peak may be one of Imagineering’s most interesting projects in development, from how it fits inside Frontierland to the design choices helping it feel like it belongs there.
We also talk Parkitecture, Magic Kingdom’s changing skyline, the role of landscape and wa...
The Bigger Conversation Behind Villains Land
D23 gave us more answers about Villains Land. Two weeks later, we’re less interested in recapping what Disney announced and more interested in what those choices actually tell us.
In our first offseason episode, Stephen, Kaity, and Jenny dig into the bigger creative questions behind Magic Kingdom’s newest land: whether an IP-based project can still be truly original Imagineering, why “Villains Land” may be exactly the right name, how years of concept art and rumors shaped expectations, and why family-friendly storytelling doesn’t have to mean removing fear.
We also look at the difference...
D23 2026 Experiences Showcase Recap | The Biggest Announcements and What They Mean
We’re coming to you from Anaheim after one of the biggest nights of D23 2026.
Fresh out of the Honda Center, Stephen, Kaity, and Jenny break down everything Disney Experiences revealed during Horizons: A Carousel of Progress, hosted by Neil Patrick Harris and featuring the Imagineers shaping the future of Disney Parks, Disney Cruise Line, and destinations around the world.
We’re talking about what the biggest announcements actually mean for the parks, the projects that surprised us, the details that have us most excited, and what this showcase tells us about where Walt...
S4 E25: Season 4 Finale | Competing for a Place in Villains Land
Season 4 comes to an end with our darkest challenge yet.
Before Disney reveals more about Villains Land at D23, we wanted one final opportunity to imagine it ourselves.
In this special season finale, three Idiots go head-to-head by designing different experiences for Disney's newest announced land. One will create a brand-new attraction, another a themed dining experience, and another a live entertainment spectacular. But only one project will earn a place in our version of Villains Land.
Using our internal Imagineering evaluation system, Stephen and Amanda judge each concept on whether...
S4 E24: Carousel of Preservation | Bridging the Past and Future of Progress
Disney recently announced the biggest overhaul to Carousel of Progress in decades… but how do you modernize one of Walt Disney’s most personal attractions without losing the heart that made it special?
For our 100th original Imagineering project, we’re taking on that challenge with a concept built around one simple idea: progress doesn’t require replacing the past. It should build upon it.
In this milestone episode, we imagine the Carousel of Preservation, a new pre-show experience that celebrates the attraction’s history while preparing guests for its future. We explore...
D23 2026 Predictions | What’s Next for Disney Imagineering?
The biggest Disney Parks event of the year is almost here, and the Idiots are making their predictions.
In this special D23 2026 Predictions episode, Stephen, Kaity, and Jenny break down what they expect (and hope) Disney will reveal during the Disney Experiences Showcase. From Tropical Americas and Piston Peak to Monstropolis, Villains Land, international park expansions, Disney Cruise Line, and the projects that could completely surprise everyone, we’re separating the locks from the long shots.
With D23 just weeks away, we’re looking at construction progress, past announcements, Imagineering trends, and Disney’s current strate...
S4 E23: Luigi's Pit Crew Dash | Plussing Disney's Most Complete Themed Land
Cars Land is already one of the most beloved and immersive themed lands Disney has ever built. So what happens when you try to improve something that's already great?
This week, the Idiots head back to Disney California Adventure to tackle one of the most difficult Imagineering challenges we've faced all season: plussing a near-perfect land. After examining the history of Luigi's attraction and the role it plays within Radiator Springs, we propose a bold replacement: Luigi's Pit Crew Dash, a new family launch coaster that expands the story of Cars Land in a way...
S4 E22: Final Frontier with WALL•E & EVE | Launching Tomorrowland Into the Future
Tomorrowland is supposed to represent the future… so what happens when one of its oldest attractions starts feeling stuck in the past?
This week, Kaity takes on one of Magic Kingdom’s most debated pieces of real estate: Tomorrowland Speedway. We explore replacing the opening-day attraction with Final Frontier with WALL•E & EVE, a new E-ticket space adventure that brings guests to the year 3505 for humanity’s next great expedition beyond Earth.
At the McCrea Center for Space Research, guests join WALL•E and EVE aboard a KUKA-powered rocket pod as they travel through th...
S4 E21: Alice's Unbirthday Party | Blurring the Lines of Attraction Design
What happens when an attraction isn't just a show, a walkthrough, or an interactive space... but all three at once?
This week, Marissa presents her very first solo Imagineering project, transforming EPCOT's UK Pavilion into Alice's Unbirthday Party, a story-driven Wonderland adventure where guests become active participants in a secret celebration hidden from the Queen of Hearts.
Blending an interactive hedge maze, immersive environments, live storytelling, and playful exploration, this concept reimagines one of World Showcase's quietest corners as a fully connected guest experience where every choice helps bring the Unbirthday Party to...
S4 E20: Kuzco's Imperial Expedition | Delivering the E-Ticket Disneyland Paris Deserves
BOOM BABY! Disneyland Park at Disneyland Paris has not received a brand new headline attraction in more than 20 years. For a park widely considered one of Disney's most beautiful, that raises an interesting question: when is it finally time to make a major change?
This week, Stephen heads overseas to tackle one of the biggest Imagineering challenges of the season. After weighing several controversial possibilities, he makes one bold decision and pitches an all new Adventureland experience inspired by The Emperor's New Groove, reimagining one corner of the park through a completely new lens.
Along t...
S4 E19: Golden Mickey Awards District | Unifying a Fragmented Area of Hollywood Studios
What happens when a corner of a theme park stops working as one idea and becomes a group of separate experiences that never fully connect?
This week, Stephen breaks down one of the most overlooked areas of Disney’s Hollywood Studios: Commissary Lane. While each part of the street still functions on its own, the overall space has slowly drifted into fragmentation, with two dining outlets and entertainment existing side by side without a shared purpose.
Instead of replacing it with a single attraction or layering on another IP overlay, we explore a different approach, re...
State of the Kingdom: Q2 2026
This quarter across Disney Parks brings major shifts into focus as long-running projects move from concept art to real-world construction, classic attractions enter major reinventions, and new lands begin to visibly take shape across Walt Disney World and beyond.
In this Q2 2026 edition of State of the Kingdom, we break down the biggest official announcements from Disney, including a landmark reimagining of Carousel of Progress and new details surrounding Monstropolis at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. We also look at Halloween season changes coming to Disneyland Resort and what they signal for the future of seasonal entertainment.

S4 E18: Wilderness Explorers Challenge Course | Bringing Adventure to the Heart of Animal Kingdom
Animal Kingdom broke Stephen this week.
After scrapping multiple fully developed concepts (including a Tarzan attraction, a suspended canopy ride, and an Emperor’s New Groove idea that refused to fit the park’s philosophy), the team tackles one of the most challenging design questions in Disney Parks: what is missing on Discovery Island?
Inspired by Shanghai Disneyland’s Challenge Trails and grounded in the values that define Animal Kingdom, Stephen proposes the Wilderness Explorers Challenge Course: a multi-level treetop adventure through Discovery Island that transforms guests from observers into participants as they climb, cross, and ex...
S4 E17: Spaceship Earth Reconnected | Redefining Communication in the Age of AI
A timeless EPCOT icon becomes the center of a modern debate about how communication continues to evolve in the age of AI. This week, Stephen reimagines the final act of Spaceship Earth, restoring its physical storytelling roots while introducing a new interactive layer that reflects how technology is reshaping human connection in real time.
The result is a grounded, thoughtful update that stays true to the attraction’s core thesis: bringing people closer together across distance, language, and time. From classic communication scenes to a carefully constrained AI-driven personalization system, the pitch explores what it means for Di...
S4 E16: Port Royal Provisions | Repurposing a Forgotten Pirates Restaurant
A quiet corner of Adventureland sits directly across from Pirates of the Caribbean but rarely feels like part of the larger story unfolding around it. This week Stephen reimagines that space by repurposing Tortuga Tavern and its adjacent unused stage into Port Royal Provisions, a quick service port eatery paired with a live civic stage that turns everyday guest flow into part of a living breathing harbor town.
The result is a layered environment where the civilian side of the Caribbean world responds to constant pirate activity just offshore. From British Caribbean inspired quick service food to...
S4 E15: Canada Reimagined | Restoring the Energy to EPCOT’s Most Skipped Pavilion
EPCOT’s Canada Pavilion often feels like a space guests walk through rather than stay in. This week, Stephen reimagines it as a living cultural district inspired by Toronto’s Kensington Market, where layered storytelling, music, and guest interaction turn the upper level of the pavilion into a constantly evolving environment.
At the center of it all is a touring 4★Town concert experience that weaves through the pavilion and encourages exploration, culminating in a reworked theater and character moment that feels like part of the world rather than a separate show. The goal is simple: make Canada feel a...
S4 E14: New York Backlot | Rethinking Expansion at Hollywood Studios
What does it actually take to expand a theme park that is facing an identity crisis with little to no room to grow?
This week, Stephen leads a deeper, more strategic conversation on the current state of Disney’s Hollywood Studios and why the park feels like it is constantly in motion without ever fully expanding. Using the Imagineering concept of displacement, we break down how Disney quietly reshapes space behind the scenes to make growth possible in an active park environment.
From the return of animation as a process-driven experience to the rise of re...
S4 E13: One Night with the Muses | Turning Myth into a Showstopper
What happens when a Fantasyland theater stops feeling like a must-see and starts feeling like filler?
This week, Stephen is joined by Jenny and Marissa as we take on one of the most iconic show spaces in the park and ask a bold question: what if Mickey’s PhilharMagic evolves into something entirely new?
We explore a reimagined experience built around the Muses from Hercules, reframing them not as supporting characters but as the storytellers of mythology itself. In this version, guests step into an immersive, live performance where the Muses summon and reshape the my...
Is Disneyland a Machine? | Roland Betancourt on Disneyland and the Rise of Automation
There’s a version of Disneyland we all know, built on story, immersion, and magic.
But what if that’s not the full picture?
This week, we’re joined by Roland Betancourt to unpack the central argument of his new book, Disneyland and the Rise of Automation. He argues that Disneyland isn’t just a storytelling engine. It is a highly sophisticated system of industrial automation carefully disguised as fantasy.
From the influence of factory design to the mechanics behind attractions like the Haunted Mansion, we dig into what happens...
S4 E12: A Goofy Movie Road Trip | Overhauling a Toontown Legend
What happens when a beloved attraction no longer matches the story of a land?
This week, Stephen is joined by Jenny and Marissa as we tackle Disneyland’s Toontown and propose a full overhaul of Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin into A Goofy Movie: On The Open Road. GASP! We explore how Imagineering balances IP integration, ride systems, and immersive details to turn Goofy and Max’s chaotic road trip into a fully realized, high-energy adventure that fits seamlessly into the land.
Along the way, we dig into miniaturized motion-simulator vehicles, visual anchor...
S4 E11: Hoppers Habitat Quest | Marketing a Movie in the Parks
Moana is leaving Animal Kingdom… and we promise there’s a good reason.
This week, Stephen takes on the role of Project Manager to introduce Hoppers Habitat Quest, a park-wide, interactive experience designed to promote Disney/Pixar’s new Hoppers film without spoiling the plot. Built around activation marketing, this concept transforms Animal Kingdom into a living, breathing scavenger hunt where guests help Mabel collect signatures to save the Glen.
Along the way, you’ll encounter roaming animal monarchs representing ecosystems across the United States, complete mini challenges, collect signature stamps, and unlo...

What happens when Disney builds something incredible and then never opens it?
This week, Stephen leads our first canceled episode of the season as we revisit the legendary Western River Expedition, the ambitious frontier epic that was designed, developed, and ultimately left behind. Joined by Kaity and special guest Olivia from @soarinaroundwdwpod, our Friend of the Idiots Podcast of the Year, we unpack the history, the lore, and the ideas that refused to disappear.
Then we take a swing at bringing it into the present with our own modern concept, Ghost Town Grand Prix, a...

What would it look like if Monsters, humans, and sushi could coexist in perfect harmony?
This week on Idiot’s Guide to Imagineering, Kaity is joined by Stephen and Jenny to bring Harryhausen’s, a likely addition to the upcoming Monstropolis land at Hollywood Studios, to life. From sleek, modern design and immersive details inspired by the movie, to both quick-service and omakase-style options, we explore how Imagineering transforms a beloved IP into a believable, unforgettable experience for guests of all ages.

We explore how Imagineering uses story cohesion, ride systems, and immersive details to make a space feel intentional and alive. It is about using every element of a land from lighting to animatronics to emotional beats to tell a story that guests can fully believe in without relying on a mega-IP.
Along the way, we dig into small-footprint...

Along the way, we dive into how Imagineering approaches third-party IP, why collaboration and creative ov...

What if you could venture beyond Arendelle?
This week, we imagine what it would look like if Disneyland Paris expanded its new World of Frozen with a bold concept called Northuldra. Stephen takes on the role of Project Manager to explore how Imagineers might bring the mystical forests, elemental spirits, and the Nokk to life in a way that’s immersive, emotional, and entirely unique to this park.
We break down the importance of risk appetite in Disney Imagineering, exploring why parks balance daring, original experiences with safe, proven crowd-pleasers, and how both types of pr...
S4 E4: Columbia Harbour House Takeover | Plussing a Classic with the Muppets
What happens when a perfectly respectable Magic Kingdom restaurant gets a little… Muppified?
This week, Stephen pitches a small-scale but high-impact plussing project for one of Liberty Square’s most overlooked classics: Columbia Harbour House. No new rides. No massive construction. Just thoughtful storytelling, operational realism, and a whole lot of Muppet chaos.
Set during a post–Revolutionary War celebration, this reimagined Harbour House becomes the unofficial headquarters for the classic Muppets, complete with Statler and Waldorf heckling guests from above, the Swedish Chef wreaking havoc in the kitchen, subtle Haunted Mansion...
