Shortcomings

Where we lead, you will follow. The time has truly come! We gathered to kick-off our newest Shortcomings series: Gilmore girls. And boy - well girl - did it not disappoint. But, of course, before that we get into Chris' reaction to You Can See Everything. If you want to hear Sam's thoughts and longer chat...Patreon Bonus Episode Out!

And then we get into our own personal histories with the show (some real, some constructed) and break down the pilot: the cozy comfort, our thoughts on the cold open and how it compares to Felicity, the...

Did you miss us? Because we missed you! Shortcomings is coming back this fall to begin our descent into the magic and the madness of Gilmore girls. So, of course, we gathered to discuss what...everything but Gilmore girls. Stay tuned, we'll be back VERY soon covering Season 1 of Gilmore girls!

This week marks 5 years of true nonsense, so we did what we thought was best - we gathered to discuss the pilot of the show that brought us all together: Sex and the City. But before that, we discuss The Odyssey now that we've both seen it. So, what can you expect other than an epic mash-up of Carrie Bradshaw and Odysseus.

It's so hard to say goodbye...or is it? Today we gather to discuss two monumental finales - the final episode of Girls and Summer House s10. We get into the fallout from The Aftermath and try and process the last few weeks of insanity. And then we get into it all with our Girls - and mostly discuss depictions of motherhood, the power of Loreen, and everything in between. We have loved this journey, thanks for taking it on with us!

They say it's hard to say goodbye, but is it? We dig into the penultimate episode of Girls this week, but before that we touch on the LA Mayoral Race and the state of reality stars. And then we discuss everything else - Hannah's iconic look, the impact of the final bathroom scene, and how we feel about Elijah. Take a listen!

We've landed on a GIRLS classic episode that we've wanted to discuss since s1 - Adam and Hannah rekindle their romance, alongside Ray's introduction to Abigail and an iconic needle drop. Take a listen!

"She'll do all she can, for the love of one man, and for millions who love from afar. I'm what you've been needing, It's all here and my heart's pleading...let me be your star...." For some reason, Girls has entered the land of musical theater, so of course, we spend some time discussing Buffy, cult docs, RHOM, and so much more.

And then we get into the episode - we learn about pawn shops with Marnie, go to Broadway with Elijah, and find ourselves at home with Hannah and Dill. It's a girls night IN!

Adam and Jessa's film is finished, Desi is back, Elijah is acting, and Hannah is going through it, but before any of that - we, of course, discuss our financial practices through the lens of streaming services and the new season of Beverly Hills with a side of Summer House. And then we simply, can't help but ask some serious questions. Should Hannah tell the father? What's going on in New Jersey? And is Jessa leading with her heart? Answers come and go!

And just when you thought we'd never discuss Girls again, here we are - it was a long hiatus, but we're back in Brooklyn and happy to be there. But before then, we catch up with Sam in the New York Snow Storm and try and remember exactly what happened on Paradise. And then we get into it all - Ray and Shosh's beautiful bond, Marnie's evolution, and the search of our queen Loreen. But, mostly, we're simply wondering why is Chris crying...

This is maybe one of the episodes of GIRLS that shocked viewers when it originally aired, but how does it hold up? Before we answer that, we discuss internet trends and the Golden Globes. And then we discuss it all - Hannah's pregnancy reveal, Jessa and Adam's support systems, Marnie and Desi's final scene (perhaps?), and the Ray of it all. Take a listen!

What's this? An episode of Shortcomings where we dig deep and are serious just a little bit? But before that, we catch-up on what's going on in TV right now. And then we discuss Hannah's confrontation with famed writer Chuck Palmer. How does this episode re-frame Hannah's own behavior? What is the internet's evolving role in sexual politics? And, of course, that final moment.

Happy Holidays, Happy Holidays - we're back to cover a doozy of an episode, but before that we discuss the new trailer for Melania and Sam's continued journey with those Wives that are Sisters. And then we get into it all - Hannah's success, Desi's descent, Jamba Jeans, and the Skywalker of it all. And in a Shortcomings first, we get somebody on the line...

We have made it to the final season of GIRLS and what can we say...we've been changed For Good, because yes, we spend most of this episode discussing the inner workings of the Wicked sequel. We get into the sex cardigan, the new songs, the performances, and we simply ponder...what is OZ? And then, we try and discuss a fairly strange season premiere - Hannah meets a dreamboat, Ray and Shosh are delights, and Adam and Jessa are freaks. We hope you enjoy this mash-up!

It's a Thanksgiving week miracle - as I realized we never uploaded the season five 5 finale, so you're getting two episodes this week! Please note the political discourse for this episode is rather old!

And wow, what an episode. But before we delve into that - I woke up on the wrong side of the bed and for some reason my ire is directed towards Jack Schlossberg. And then we get into it all - Shosh's girl boss era, Desi's stan army, the sweet appeal of Ray, the disarray of Adam and Jessa, and the evolution of...

And Just Like That...We're Back! Sam is fresh off her birthday trip to New York and Chris is, once again, recovered from healing. We discuss the power of marathons, All's Fair, and touch down with Naomi and Heath. And then we get into it all: our relatable king Elijah, the beauty of Ray and Shosh, Marnie's dreams, and the real love story...Hannah and Tally. It's so good to be back and let's just say...we're on fire.

It's (not) so hard to say goodbye to yesterday (Fran & Hannah), we have finally reached the end of their relationship and also our patience for Miss Horvath. But before that, we discuss our two favorite shows respectively: Special Forces and The Morning Show (it's called taste, we have it). And then we discuss it all - Shosh's return to Brooklyn, the allure of Old Man Ray, baby Sample, and Hector. Take a listen!

Arguably, this is an incredibly important episode of GIRLS, but do we agree? We try and take it all on - Hannah's boundary pushing, Marnie and Desi's checking-in at Seattle Grace, the emotional triad that is Jessa-Hannah-Adam, and what we would (and wouldn't) do for Dill Harcourt. And through it all, we ponder: is Fran a good dude? Take a listen!

Some people wait a lifetime for a moment like this...we have made it to perhaps THEE episode of Girls and you're gonna like the way it looks. But before that, we get into our take on Task and somehow discuss Sister Wives. And then we get into it all - Desi's madness, the return of Charlie, and the arrival of Magita Perez. Open your hearts to us, Bella!!

Oh, we are SO back, but is GIRLS? But before that, we get into celebrity Instagram behavior and RHOC. And then we take it all on - Shosh and Yosh, Adam and Jessa, and whatever is going on with Loreen's hair. But the real question is: will anything ever haunt us like an Adam Driver line reading from this episode? Probably not!

Old love is in the air for our Girls, but before that we have a mini-breakdown regarding whatever the hell is going on online. From AI to the goings on of men on the dark web, we're disturbed to say the least - and looking for answers to questions we never asked. And then we get into it all: the dreaminess of Dill Harcourt, the insanity of Marnie's apartment, Hannah's continued descent, and the love story to end all love stories.

Just when we thought we were spending all our time abroad, we find ourselves tethered to Brooklyn. But before Girls, we discuss the way too toxic discourse and Alexia Umansky's wedding has one of us HEATED. Then we get into it all - Shosh is lost in translation, Jessa and Adam are cute, and Hannah is on some sort of tirade.

The Girls are back in the city after Marnie's wedding and things are afoot! But before we get into the episode, we hear about Sam's journey into the Conjuring cinematic universe and breakdown One Direction, because why not. And then we get into it all - is Fran a normal dude or a demonic spirit? What's going on with our Old Man Ray? Why does Adam look so good? And who is Sam's favorite new couple? All will be revealed when you hit play on this episode!

We're back in Brooklyn and it feels so right, but before that we get into a search for Mayhem Ball tickets and QAnon Barbers. But who cares about that when Marnie and Desi are heading down the alter, meanwhile Adam and Jessa have chemistry, Hannah is in her BeyHive era, Shosh has a cute haircut, and Bridget Everett is giving a performance. The Girls Are Back In Town, indeed!

It's so hard to say goodbye, but alas we must. It's the final episode of And Just Like That and (perhaps) the end of the Carrie Bradshaw Cinematic Universe. But before that, of course, we somehow end up talking about Miss Swift. And then we get into it all - sex hijinks with Charlotte and Harry, Miranda's hosting skills lead to the scatalogical, and Carrie remains the ultimate single girl. The ride is over - and it was fabulous.

Thank you all so much for listening and loving - we loved doing it, too!

It's Thanksgiving-eve in Carrie Bradshaw's New York City (somehow) and the girls are preparing to gather. But before then, we get into Sam's jaunt into fantasy and RHOM. And then we get into it all - an underwhelming engagement, whatever is going on with Brady, the emotional centeredness of Charlotte York, and the beauty that is Carrie Bradshaw. Take a listen!

Trigger warning...we're angry as hell, but not about this sublime episode of television. But before we discuss the girls, we discuss the end of the world as we know it: the cancelation of And Just Like That! And then we get into it all - asexual roommates, free hamsters, zoom therapy, mother plants, shampoo girls, and the Duncan Donuts of our dreams! Oh Carrie Bradshaw, we'll love you till the day we die!

We did it, ya'll! We survived Aidan 3.0 and we couldn't feel any lighter, but before that we discuss the Epstein files (sorry); the new film Sorry, Baby (love); and the MCU (sorry...again). And then we get into it all: age gap relationships, smelly boys, our hopes for LTW, Charlotte's vertigo, our continued love of Joy, and Duncan Duncan Duncan. Take a listen!

And Just Like That begins at 56:40

Aidan is in town and even HBOMax knows it's a horror show, but before that we get into the depths of what we don't know (Max Original Programming) and what we do know (Bravo). And then we get into it all - Charlotte's vertigo, LTW's papaya crush, Miranda and Joy's big little step, and whatever the hell Miss Bradshaw is doing. Oh and crystal deodorant.

It hardly seems possible, but it feels like we've turned a corner. The girls gather for Charlotte's birthday and perhaps fun is had! But before that, we discuss Sam's trip to Beyonce's Cowboy Carter tour. And then we get into it all - Carrie's writing style, Miranda's joyful party style, Charlotte and Harry as couple goals, and all that karaoke. Take a listen!

It may have taken longer than we wanted, but we're finally somewhere and it feels so good. Before we get into the episode, we briefly chat about the NYTIMES Top 100 movies of the 21st Century and Love Island. But then we take it all on - LTW's loss, Charlotte as Pollyanna, Aidan's haunting appearance, and the joy of Joy.

Carrie's back from her horror jaunt to Virginia - and things are afoot in Gramercy Park, but before that we discuss a little Love Island and a recent review. We then get into it all - Seema's small business loan, LTW's dwindling marriage and the role references play within this show, Miranda and Carrie as roomies, and those damn shoes.

Carrie Bradshaw is on ATV and we don't know how to feel about it, but we do know that this episode through us for a loop. But before that, we discuss Call Her Daddy for some reason. And then we get into it all - Ryan Serhant is back, LTW is in Desperate Housewives territory, the show's attempt at taking on aging, Miranda is cat sitting, and that ending!!

And, we're back. But before we get into the episode, we briefly discuss the Tonys and go deep on Sabrina Carpenter's new album cover and stumble into cultural and political discourse. And then we get into it all - Carrie and Seema's jaunt to Virginia, the AJLT mommy-track, and our shining star: Charlotte. It's a lot and perhaps the conversation is too hot to handle, but here we are. Take a listen!

And we're back for episode 2 and the forecast is looking up somewhat, but first we recount a few things currently going on in pop culture: spoiler alert, nothing good! And then we get into the episode: the strange tone of Seema's storytelling, AJLT's visuals, the connective power of reality tv, and Carrie's emojis.

And Just Like That...We're Disgusted, upset, angry, and simply...thrilled! Season 3 is finally here and we break it all down. Carrie's new apartment, M&Ms, dog park hijinks, Marvel directors, and political spouses. Oh My! What's going on in the mind of Michael Patrick King? We may never know! But we are SO back!

This week's bonus episode will dig into Anthony's role on And Just Like That & queer representation in this universe, as well as other things. Join us at patreon.com/shortcomingspodcast

With four seasons under our belt, we take a moment to look backwards and ponder what's to come for us. But of course before that, we discuss more than we should. We start a review of our thoughts about Girls around 42 minute mark.

We're taking a hiatus from Girls, but we'll be back to cover And Just Like That s3 in late May here on the main feed. Girls recaps will begin again once AJLT s3 ends.

We made it to the end of season four and we can only hope that season five is looking up, because we didn't love this episode. So much so, we really barely discuss it. So disclaimer - the Girls talk in this episode is little to none. But, I think we sort of made some points. Either way, we love you deep!

Girls talk begins around 1:07:20

We're back after a brief hiatus and we catch-up briefly on our lives before discussing the penultimate episode of Season Nine. Tad is in town and Hannah is reckoning with boundaries, Jessa is chasing Ace, Marnie's taking center stage, and we're wondering...did we ever really know Ray? We do now! Take a listen!

An episode where we discuss what we're currently watching and re-watching, and then get into an episode of Girls that is remembered fondly, but is out there. Tad comes out, Hannah's a mess, Shosh is a Good Wife girlie, and Desi is buying pedals!

It's another week of Shortcomings and a strange episode of Girls, but before that we get into Megan Markle's new Netflix series, 23 & Me, Summer House, and many other things. And then we breakdown Mimi-Rose Howard's art show, the introduction of Fran, and the Ace of it all. Here we go!
