Leenane Native Returns Home For All-Ireland Quarter Final As Winner Of Allianz Coming Home for Match Day competition
A Leenane native has returned home for the first time in four years as a winner of the Winner Of Allianz Coming Home for Match Day competition.
Sean McDonnell won the competition and arrived home on Saturday morning from California, where he lives, before heading to Croke Park tomorrow to attend the Galway V Dublin quarter final with his dad, who hasn’t been well recently.
As he was making his way home, he dropped into the Galway Bay FM Studio and joined John on Saturday Sport.
Galway Swimming Club Returns From Stuttgart With 33 Medals
17 Swimmers from Galway Swimming Club (GSC) competed in Stuttgart’s International Swimming Gala last weekend and returned home with an incredible 33 medals.
The competition (Which was Stuttgart's 50th) included teams from many nations including Germany, France, the UK, Egypt and Nigeria.
Many of Galway's swimmers achieved personal bests in a 50m outdoor pool during a heatwave with temperatures of up to 35 degrees which is no mean feat.
The athletes who travelled are in the most senior squads in the club. They train between 6 and 8 times a week including three sessions that start at 5.30am...

Galway United's hopes of a first competitive win over Shamrock Rovers in 20 years will have to wait as they were comprehensively beaten 3-1 by the SSE Airtricity League Men's Premier Division champions in Tallaght Stadium on Friday evening (26th June 2026).
Frantz Pierrot got a late consolation goal for the Tribesmen but early strikes from Aaron Greene, John McGovern and Michael Noonan ensured the Hoops went seven points clear at the top of the table. Galway United remain in seventh place, still five points clear of the relegation zone.

Galway have made two changes for Sunday's final group game against Tipperary in the Glen Dimplex All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship. Clarinbridge's Niamh Niland and Sarsfields' Caoimhe Kelly come into the starting 15 instead of Shannon Corcoran and Mairead Dillon.
Following their victory over Waterford two weeks previously, another win for the Tribeswomen will put them in pole position to qualify directly for the semi-finals. Defeat could see them needing to come through the quarter-finals next week in Croke Park.

Loughrea will begin their quest for three Forvis Mazars Senior Hurling Championships against Tommy Larkins when the 2026 competition gets underway on the weekend ending 9th August.
The draw took place at the Lough Rea Hotel & Spa on Monday evening (22nd June) that saw both teams go into Group 1 with Moycullen and Gort (the full draw is posted below).

Cunga Cycling Club in Cong will host the Cycling Ireland Road Race National Championships this week with events begininng on Thursday.
The best cyclists in the country will be taking to the roads with the goal of becoming national champion.
With preparations in full swing, Hannah Maria Gibney joined John in studio to talk about the event.
Cricket In Connacht Special
The game of Cricket has seen a major increase in participation and interest in recent years.
Most recently, the province has earned a place at the top table and last season, Galway County Cricket Club won the Cricket Ireland National Cup.
This season, the province was due to play in a new competition, the Wild Atlantic Way. Unfortunately, both games were washed out.

Ballymoe's Richael Timothy Wins European Gold - The Interview
There were huge celebrations among the Para Cycling Community in Ireland on Sunday when Ballymoe's Richael Timothy outsprinted Dutch rider Aniek van den Aarssen and France’s Tifany Huot Marchand to win Gold at the UEC Para Cycling European Road Championships in Maniago and Montereale Valcellina.
It was Timothy’s second medal of the Championships, having already won bronze in the Women’s C3 Time Trial on Friday.
