Coming Off The Reels

Happy Halloween! Here is an extra episode this week to celebrate the holiday. Who knew that Bram Stoker’s Dracula would be such a divisive episode? We knew…and if you’ve ever listened to this show before, you should have known as well.

Enjoy!

Well…DC finally did it…they made a movie that we agree about here at COtR. It only took a many many many tries, but here we are. We done, Clayface, well done. Guess you will just have to listen to hear what that uniformed opinion actually is.

Enjoy!

This week we are revisiting a classic comedy from our college years, and a mainstay on Comedy Central for a long long time, Office Space. Just to make our show a little more unpleasant to listen to, we are playing pool during the entire episode…so you know…

Enjoy!

This week we have very special guests, our dear friends, Mal and John. A year ago they started watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer, John for the first time, and a revisit for Mal. So here is our episode where they breakdown their favorite episodes, and we all try and make sense of why Drusilla is the worst (maybe not everyone’s opinion).

Enjoy!

Another episode from the cabin, and as always, Ryan brought the heat. Becky did not disappoint.

Enjoy!

We are officially in the “golden era” of video game movies, and the new Resident Evil may be the standard by which all other movies in that genre are compared.

Enjoy!

Jean-Claude Van Damme punches a snake.

The End of Oak Street Coming Off the Reels Download

I know that everything out there is still all about Spider-Man, but others movies have been released, and this week we are talking about one of the. The End of Oak Street is not a perfect movie, and it may not even be a good movie, but it might be. It really could go either way. I’ve seen the movie, and I am still not sure yet. Anyway…

Enjoy!

I hate to spoil anything for you, but if you have ever listened to this show, you know that we are big fans of the recent Spider-Man movies, and Brand New Day is no exception to this. If you don’t like them, maybe skip this episode because we are largely praising the latest entry. If you like listening to Roy and I bicker, you can also listen for that.

Enjoy!

This week we are talking about a western that definitely wasn’t appreciated in its’ time, but now stands out as on of the best of the 90’s, The Quick & the Dead. If you’ve seen it, we don’t have to tell you how good it is, and if you haven’t, please do yourself a favor, and enjoy the ride.

If you know Roy, you know he loves a good underdog story, so the fact that Obsession made made over $450,000,000 on a budget less than a million…well he was always going to cheer that on. But hey, it turns out, we both actually really like the movie anyway! I love when we aren’t too old to appreciate what the kids are watching these days!

Enjoy!

Just like everyone else on the internet, we went and saw The Odyssey last week. If you saw it, and you have some big opinions about how Elliot Page or Lupita Nyong’o shouldn't have been cast in this movie, please fuck all the way off. But if you just want to listen to people talk about a movie, please feel free to stay.

Enjoy!

This week we are talking about the new Masters of the Universe movie. If you’re thinking to yourself “ Wait, there’s a new He-Man movie?!”, well you apparently weren’t the only one. This one had us divided, but if you actually watch this movie, and have any kind of opinion at all, then you are likely to agree with one of us. And that’s not nothing.

Enjoy!

It’s Spielberg showing that he still has some gas left in the tank. Is Disclosure Day a perfect movie? No, but it its still one of his strongest outings in two decades. Plus, John Williams, in defiance of God and time, is still out there making great scores.

Enjoy!

This week we are heading back to the episodes we recorded in the cabin. This was the start of round 2, and Sean absolutely crushed. If you have never seen Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man do you yourself a favor and watch it with a little information as you can. It is definitely not the movie any of us were expecting.

Enjoy!

It is easy to miss movies like Hokum in the current movie climate, where movies sometime only have a week or two to find an audience. Hopefully it becomes a streaming hit sometime soon.

Enjoy!

Movies with My Mom Coming Off the Reels Download

It’s Mother’s Day this weekend, so here is an episode where my mother and I talk about movies for an hour. It’s a real trip down memory lane for both of us.

Enjoy!

Sidekicks Coming Off the Reels Download

This one has been a long time coming. Sidekicks is one of those movies that I have been in love with for a long time, and I am thrilled that we were able to watch it at the cabin this year. We didn’t know at the time that we would lose Chuck Norris shortly after recording. This was definitely his mountain top.

Enjoy!

GoldenEye Coming Off the Reels Download

This week were are discussing Roy’s first pick from our cabin trip, GoldenEye. This was an episode recorded late at night, so if things break down a little bit, and everyone starts laughing uncontrollably for a minute or so, just know that we were all mostly sober, it had just been a long day.

Enjoy!

The Drama Coming Off the Reels Download

This week we are talk about the controversial film, The Drama. Opinions on this one vary among us, but we also didn’t necessarily disagree with each other much. This was kind of a weird one, and maybe our most serious episode that we’ve ever recorded. So that’s fun…

Enjoy!

Project Hail Mary Coming Off the Reels Download

If this doesn’t win the “Best Adapted Screenplay” Oscar, it will be their biggest oversight since leaving Jonathan Brandis out of the “In Memoriam”. Don’t mess this up, Academy.

Enjoy!

Inside Coming Off the Reels Download

Well…this selection from Ryan is not of the faint of heart. This French horror film, Inside, is intense, and will likely may you squirm in your seat. At the very least, it will make Roy very uncomfortable, and that is always entertaining. So join us as we bring you another episode from this year’s Cabin Chronicles.

Enjoy!

A Low Down Dirty Shame Coming Off the Reels Download

Cabin Chronicles 4 is in the books, and it was our best one yet. Sean started us off this year with the 1994…err…classic, A Low Down Dirty Shame. Opinions were varied, and hopefully no feelings were hurt, but it was still a good way to kick off the weekend.

Enjoy!

The Best of 2025 Coming off the Reels Download

Cabin Chronicles 4 is kicking off with our best of 2025 episode. It is the first time that we have been able record in the same room in quite awhile, so even if no one ever listens to these, at least it was a reason to all be together, and that’s not nothing.

Enjoy!

Primate Coming Off the Reels Download

This week we are talking about the new horror film, Primate. This was kind of a last minute episode that we recorded in the parking lot of our local AMC, and while microphones were brought, the screens that go over them were not. We are left with a pretty bad sounding show, but we are still posting it, warts and all.

Enjoy!

Best Franchise - Part 3 Coming Off the Reels

Here is the last episode in out “Best Franchise” bracket episode. It was a little late at night when we recorded it, so you know that means it is our best material.

Enjoy!

This week a couple of us catch up on some of the movies we’ve watched the last week or two, Predator: Badlands, Frankenstein, and then just some random odds and ends, just for fun.

Enjoy!

Best Franchises- Part 2 Coming Off the Reels Download

Sorry for the delay, but you know, sometimes…life. Anyway, here is another long episode where we further break down the list of “The Best Franchise of All Time”. The first round was easy, now people’s feelings start getting hurt.

Enjoy!

Best Franchises - Part 1 Coming Off the Reels Download

This is is the first of 3 long episodes we recorded where we tried to break down which is the best franchise of all time. We made a “march madness” style bracket, 64 franchises, one winner, but plenty of hurt feelings.

Enjoy!

Jaws 50th Anniversary Coming Off the Reels Download

Yes, I am well aware that we have already done two episodes about Jaws, but in the dying embers of summer 2025, we thought we would once again record on the absolute best summer movie, as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Jaws.

Enjoy!

Fantastic Four: First Steps Coming Off the Reels Download

It has been kind of a tough run for Marvel lately. Nothing really seems to be working out the way they want. Fantastic Four: First Steps kicks off the latest phase in the ever expanding MCU, but that doesn’t mean people will care about it. Does this live up to our Marvel standard? I guess you have to listen…because this is a podcast, and not a newspaper article.

Enjoy!

Superman (2025) Coming Off the Reels Download

For well over a decade, we have argued about the quality of the Superman films. The fights about Supes killing Zod in Man of Steel has literally been one of the defining qualities of a couple of us on this show. When another new Superman movie was announced, and it was to be directed by James Gunn, we were torn between optimist and cynicism. Gunn has certainly been a divisive director in the past, but would he continue that trend?

Anyway…here is our Superman (2025) episode.

28 Years Later & Novocain Coming Off the Reels Download

This week we are talking about the latest film from Danny Boyle, 28 Years Later, and a movie about how nepo babies are are taking over Hollywood, Novocain.

Enjoy!

Mission: Impossible- Final Reckoning Coming Off the Reels Download

It took us 30 years to get here, but the Mission: Impossible franchise has finally come to an end…until they soft reboot it in a few years. Our opinions are as varied as the quality of the MI films in general, and while we may not agree about the last entry, we all agree that it’s better than the second one. When you find that kind of common ground, the rest of the stuff is just details.

Enjoy!

Final Destination Bloodlines Coming Off the Reels Download

Is there anything better than being really, truly surprised by a movie? Could I have imagined a world where Final Destination Bloodlines placed itself in the running for the “Best of 2025” list and also damn near made me cry along the way? No, but here we are. What a surprise.

Enjoy!

Thunderbolts* Coming Off the Reels Download

We all know that Marvel has had kind of a tough time lately. All of their movies feel like carbon copies of better Marvel movies that came before. Thunderbolts* had the advantage of being full of characters that people don’t really care about that much. Nothing to lose, everything to gain.

Enjoy!

Sinners Coming Off the Reels Download

This is a movie that I cannot get out of my head. The way it was shot, the music, the acting, the message…absolutely amazing. I care more about you going to see this movie than I do you listening to this podcast, but if you also enjoyed Sinners, and want to listen to us gush about how much we liked it, we will be here.

Enjoy!

Gone in 60 Seconds and Swordfish Coming Off the Reels Download

The perfect double feature does exist…it just may not be these two movies.

Or maybe it is these two movies.

Yeah…this is probably as good as it gets.

Enjoy!

Love Hurts Coming Off the Reels Download

No need to mince words, this is one of the worst movies we’ve seen in a long time.

(please know that the “we” mentioned above does not reflect the views of Roy King, who “kinda liked” this movie)

Enjoy!

Worst of 2024 Coming Off the Reels Download

It’s March, the Oscars have come and gone, and people are already discussing what could be the best movie of 2025. We, on the other hand, are just now getting around to our “Worst of 2024” list. We are certainly more negative in this particular episode, but if you had to watch all these terrible movies, you would be negative too.

Enjoy!
