Professor Dave Explains
Welcome! I have a knack for explaining stuff and I want to share some knowledge with you.I received a BA in chemistry from Carleton College, and performed graduate studies in both synthetic organic chemistry and science education at Cal State Northridge, receiving an MA in the latter. Prior to this I taught for about a decade in various high school and undergraduate settings, specializing in organic chemistry but also teaching general chemistry, physics, and biology. This channel is for students at the high school and undergraduate level, but it is also for members of the general public who just...
Heat and Temperature
We all know what it's like to feel hot or cold. But what is hot? What is cold? What is heat? What does temperature really measure? Don't pretend like you haven't lost sleep over this. Well you don't have to fret any longer, Prof Dave will take you through the details.

Remember when Dr. Mike took on the 20 anti-vaxxers in the Jubilee thing? I reacted to it and everybody thought that was a grand old time. Then he went on there again to debate RFK Jr. supporters. A little redundant, since there is 100% overlap between those groups, but who cares? Another several hours of stupidity and insanity to react to! A lot of you asked for this one, so please enjoy as my holiday gift to you!

Fluids, Buoyancy, and Archimedes' Principle
Archimedes is not just the owl from the Sword in the Stone. Although that's a sweet movie if you haven't seen it. He was also an old Greek dude who figured out a bunch of physics way before other people did. Some of this was discovered at bath time, so it has a lot to do with water, but don't get all weird about it, just listen to the old man in the tub. He's smarter than he looks.

These contain a second derivative term, and they are quite useful in physics. To introduce these, let's first examine the simplest case, a linear homogenous second-order differential equation that exhibits constant coefficients. To solve these we will need to find a characteristic equation and do some algebra, a process which will vary depending on whether we are dealing with real distinct roots, complex roots, or a repeated root.
