In Part Two, Connie and I discuss the profound intergenerational trauma experienced by residential school survivors and day scholars, and how it rippled through families. Indigenous children were removed from their homes like hostages; many disappeared while enrolled, while others endured severe physical, psychological, and cultural abuse.

Unlike residential students, day scholars attended federally operated schools during the day and returned home at night. Though unrecognized for decades, they suffered many of the same grave harms—including the forced loss of language and culture.

Colten Stephen Pratt was last seen leaving the Marlborough Hotel on Smith Street in downtown Winnipeg at 9:30 p.m. on November 6. Family members note that Colten was at a hotel bar and may have gone to another location with an unidentified woman who appears in a final photo he sent to his mother via cell phone that night. Miya Marcano was last seen around 5 p.m. on September 24, 2021, at the Arden Villas complex near the University of Central Florida in Orange County. She was tragically found dead eight days later. Born to parents Yma Scarbriel and Marlon Marcano (professionally known as DJ Eternal Vibes), Miya grew up in South Florida and the British Virgin Islands, graduating from Flanagan Senior High in 2020 and studying at Valencia College.

The Nguyen family was last seen on April 19, 2002, when a police officer stopped Stephanie in her green 1997 Nissan Pathfinder (Ohio license plate ADH7739) near an Ohio River boat ramp for failing to dim her headlights. The officer noticed two children, presumably Kristina and John, asleep in the backseat. Stephanie, Kristina, and John vanished until their vehicle was found submerged 20 years later.
