This passage warns us of the dangers of outward religion without any genuine spiritual life.

Faith is not confidence in what we can accomplish, faith is confidence in what God has said. Hebrews 11:30-31 "By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they had been encircled for seven days. Job 1:21

“Naked I came from my mother’s womb, And naked I shall return there. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.”

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

Faith looks beyond death and trust that God will fulfill every promise He has made.

Hebrews 11:20-22

"By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau, even regarding things to come. By faith Jacob, as he was dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph, and worshiped, leaning on the top of his staff. By faith Joseph, when he was dying, made mention of the exodus of the sons of Israel, and gave orders concerning his bones."

Daniel 3

"Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to him, “King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us[c] from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”

"By faith Noah, being warned by God about things not yet seen, in reverence prepared an ark for the salvation of his household, by which he condemned the world, and became an heir of the righteousness which is according to faith."

The goal is that the truth of God transform the people of God into the likeness of God's son.

"By faith Enoch was taken up so that he would not see death; and he was not found because God took him up; for he obtained the witness that before his being taken up he was pleasing to God. 6 And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him."

Since God's glory is our goal, and God's Word is our authority, then God's Word must be faithfully preached.

2 Timothy 4:1-5 "I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom: 2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to...

"By faith Abel offered to God a better sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained the testimony that he was righteous, God testifying about his gifts, and through faith, though he is dead, he still speaks."

If God is on the throne, then God gets the final word. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

"Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen." - Hebrews 11:1

This chapter is about believing people trusting in a faithful God.

God must be the center, the goal, and the reason for everything. The church does not exist to make much of us—it exists to make much of Him. “To Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.” — Ephesians 3:21

The genuine Christian life is self-denial, humility, and surrender to Christ. If you are going to follow Jesus, you must take sin seriously.

Jesus reveals what it means to be great in the Kingdom of God.

When Jesus saw that a crowd was running to the scene, he rebuked the impure spirit. “You deaf and mute spirit,” he said, “I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.”

The glory of Christ is revealed on the mount of transfiguration.

“If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. 35 For whoever wishes to save his [b]life will lose it, but whoever loses his [c]life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it." ~ Jesus

Peter answered and said to Him, “You are the Christ.”

With great compassion Jesus took time to minister to a deaf man, healing him to the amazement of the crowds.

Jesus received those whom the world would expect Him to reject.

‘This people honors Me with their lips, But their heart is far away from Me. ‘But in vain do they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the precepts of men.’ Neglecting the commandment of God, you hold to the tradition of men.”
