Shepherd Church Messages

It can be easy to look at the Bible and assume that spiritual growth is reserved for the spiritually elite. Thank the Lord the complete opposite is true! In this series, we will see how God often chooses unlikely people to accomplish extraordinary purposes. Moses’ life reminds us that our past, weaknesses, and doubts do not disqualify us from being used by God.

Throughout Scripture, we see the stories of kings who trusted God and others who slowly drifted from Him. Their lives reveal the power of faith, the danger of compromise, and ultimately our need for a better King. Through their stories, we’ll discover what it means to trust, obey, and follow God and how they ultimately point us to Jesus, the King we’ve been waiting for.

Teaching passage: Luke 1:32-33

The world tells us to blaze our own trail, do it our way and be the captain of our ship. God’s Word tells us that real freedom begins when we stop trying to control everything and fully trust God. We believe that following Jesus means letting go of control and trusting God with every part of our lives.

In this series, we’ll discover how surrender can change our direction, bring us back to God, and give us the courage to step into what He has next.

We’re excited to kick off our new series, Legendary, all about the heroes of our faith as we learn from their stories and God’s redemptive work on behalf of His people.
Over the next several weeks, we’ll explore the faith filled, yet very human, lives of Daniel, Abraham, Timothy, Ruth, and Joshua. We believe these aren’t just stories from the past. They are real life examples that challenge and encourage us to embrace the possibility of living a life of faith and adventure with God in our everyday lives.

While our mission is to know Jesus, serve Jesus and share Jesus, the way we live those things out all boils down to who we are as a church community and the kind of people we sense God calling us to be. Join us for a five-week series where we dive deep into each of our five cultural values at Shepherd Church. These aren't just signs on the wall, but core convictions that drive everything we do and help direct our path as we seek to follow the Good Shepherd together!

Dave Choutka unpacks Jesus' invitation in Matthew 5 to be "the salt of the earth" and the "light of the world". As we think about how to live counterculturally in the world around us, salt and light are two primary ways that we can be Jesus to those around us each day! Use the "BLESS" acronym to pray through how God might be leading you to lovingly live out your faith in Him.

B — Begin with prayer
L — Listen
E — Eat
S — Serve
S — Share
