Jamie went to the Derby Beer Festival with the Lord Chancellor. Yes, the actual Lord Chancellor and Justice Secretary. Richard went to see Street Fighter. Both report back, and only one of them had a cabinet minister for company.

Then the main event. Jamie and Richard go to war over film sound. Jamie’s position: the dialogue is too quiet, the explosions are too loud, and he spends every film riding the volume button like a club DJ. Richard’s position is complicated by the fact that he’s a professional sound engineer. Somebody is defending Hollywood and so...

A first for Nobody Cares What You Think: a listener hill, sent in by voice note, people who build pubs in their back gardens are weird. Jamie and Richard take it apart, defend it, and decide whether a shed with optics is a midlife crisis in timber form. Keep the voice notes coming. The worse the hill, the better.

Richard has discovered Marquee TV and gone deep on Shakespeare, specifically Richard II and Richard III and everything around them. A man called Richard, watching plays called Richard, explaining them to Jamie. Jamie took the Shakespeare lesson in...

Jamie arrived. Richard carried him. That's the episode.

In fairness, Jamie rallied. They tried Richard's green tea — Jamie was not a fan. They talked about the Invention festival in Derby, Richard's ongoing library decoration project, his discovery of a waygo, and his decision to do his own electrics which absolutely nobody asked him to do. Jamie recounts his Odysseus-style journey from the Netherlands back home. Richard shares his newfound joy of terrible rosé wine.

Richard's hill: people with oversized cars should not be parking in standard supermarket spaces. Jamie feels personally victimised and does not agr...

Jamie and Richard are back after the summer and they have things to say.

Richard travelled the length and breadth of the UK for various reasons and has the motorway service station opinions to prove it. Jamie went to AEW All In and lived his best life. Then Jamie watched the new Oasis film and has a review, how did it land, does it do justice to the mythology, and what does it say about our relationship with nostalgia and bands we grew up with?

Jamie's hill this week: the utterly abysmal process of buying...

Richard went to Download with his mate. He enjoyed it so much he invited said mate to contribute via voice note — a special guest addition that Jamie was not consulted on and is not happy about. There is a new podcast friend. Jamie is hurt. The friendship is being evaluated.

On the music: Limp Bizkit were genuinely great. Guns N Roses were comically bad. Linkin Park were frustratingly bad. Richard has thoughts on all of it and his mate has thoughts via voice note whether Jamie likes it or not.

Richard's hill: camping chairs should be...

Jamie went to Matlock Bath and tried to buy an ice cream. They said cash only. Jamie was not having it. This week's hill to die on: there is no excuse for a business not taking card in 2025. None. The technology exists, it is affordable, and choosing to be cash only is either laziness, bloody-mindedness, or something else entirely. Richard has a counter argument. Jamie is not interested.

Also this week: the new Prime Minister visited Derby. Jamie's partner was there. Jamie seized the moment and asked her to invite him on the podcast. She did not...

Two Months Late and Still Right: We Review The Mandalorian and Grogu

Nobody Cares What You Think arrives fashionably late to the cultural zeitgeist this week as Jamie and Richard finally review The Mandalorian and Grogu — two months after release, completely unashamed, and with plenty to say. They loved it. They have thoughts. Grogu's character development remains as stunted as his growth and Star Wars needs to be brave enough to do something about it.

Richard's hill this week: trailers on streaming platforms can get in the bin. If he wanted to see a trailer he...

For the first time in Nobody Cares What You Think history, there is a guest. His name is Kirk. He runs Trendng, an independent culture and music platform covering Derby and beyond, and unlike most people Jamie and Richard talk about, they genuinely wanted to hear what he had to say.

The conversation covers how Trendng started, what it actually takes to run independent cultural coverage, and why the stories coming out of smaller cities and smaller venues matter more than anyone with a national platform seems to notice. What's old is new again — grassroots culture is ha...

Jamie and Richard have strong opinions about tea. Neither will back down. This is where we are. Get the popcorn.

Also this week: Richard has been systematically watching Cheers from the beginning and has arrived at a deeply unsettling conclusion — your parents were right, it has all been done before, and Friends basically nicked the lot. He went to see an experimental artist and has thoughts. He also tells a story about the film London Road that Jamie still doesn't fully understand by the end, and frankly neither will you.

Jamie bought tickets to the My...

Richard built a barbecue. It didn't go to plan. His wife put the food in the oven. Jamie thinks pre-cooking in the oven before finishing on the barbecue is perfectly reasonable. Richard thinks that's the coward's way out. This is where we are.

Also this week: Richard went to see Richard Birkin with a string quartet, recorded with his secret band that isn't remotely secret, got deep into plugins versus real hardware, and played a sound he could not get out of his head. Jamie travelled to Ireland, Bristol, and Rotterdam — the Eurostar felt like a Jason Bo...

Richard Makes Jamie Watch Eurovision. Special Episode. The cultural exchange is complete. Jamie made Richard watch WrestleMania. Richard made Jamie watch Eurovision. Jamie went in sceptical, came out grudgingly impressed, and has opinions about the voting system that won't surprise anyone. Bulgaria won. Richard is insufferably right about all of it. The deal is done.

Richard has been to Scunthorpe. The city view from his hotel was a Sainsbury's and a solicitor's. He also went to see David Icke — yes, really! He is convinced Jamie missed out. Jamie does not agree.

This week Jamie dies on the hill that everyone needs to calm down about AI in both directions, the people saying it's going to destroy humanity and the people saying it's useless are both wrong. Richard thinks the whole thing is disingenuous. What follows is one of their better arguments: touching on the Luddite revolution, AI music creation, whether a ghost-written no...

Jamie's been to Disneyland Paris, Richard's been to the Shepherd's Bush Empire, and somehow both trips end up in the same conversation, are we being sold experiences or just parted from our money in increasingly creative ways? Richard dies on the hill that anniversary tours need to stop and bands need to know when to quit. Ticket prices, theme parks, and the growing suspicion that someone is always making money out of your good time. Plus: the intro that refused to behave, and Richard's continued refusal to touch the Instagram page.

This is a special. No hills, no topics, no format. Jamie making Richard sit through WrestleMania as part of a cultural exchange nobody asked for but everyone needed. Richard went in sceptical. Richard came out changed. The deal was WrestleMania for Eurovision, so consider this fair warning, Richard's revenge is coming, and it involves sequins.

Jamie dies on the hill that the Star Wars prequels deserve more credit than they get. Richard disagrees. Then they tackle the bigger question, why does every piece of culture now need to be part of something larger, and when did standalone become a dirty word?

Richard did his Bee Gees homework and it's only made him worse. Jamie went to see Prima Facie. Then: are audiobooks actually reading? Richard says no. After that, long form vs short form gaming, the backlog problem, and what abandoning a save file says about you as a dad. Got a hill? We want it [email protected] or @ncwytpodcast on Instagram.

Jamie and Richard introduce themselves, explain why they're doing this, and immediately start arguing. In their first ever "I Will Die on This Hill" segment, Jamie makes the case that professional wrestling deserves to be taken seriously as entertainment, whilst Richard remains unconvinced. Richard then defends Five Guys milkshakes as the gold standard of fast food shakes, but argues the price makes them impossible to justify. That descends into a broader conversation about whether quality is ever actually worth the premium. It's the first episode. Nobody asked for it. Here it is anyway.

Jamie went to see Radiohead and has thoughts, mostly about the fact they didn't play Creep and whether that's artistic integrity or just being awkward. Richard spent New Year sober and has strong opinions about Jools Holland's Hootenanny. There's a trip to the snooker, a heated "I Will Die on This Hill" where Richard argues the Beatles are massively overrated, and a conversation about support bands, including Jamie's borderline obsessive appreciation for Brigette Calls Me Baby, who he discovered supporting Morrissey. The lads also get into influencer culture creeping into music and acting, and Richard's Nerd Den this week...

Richard is using Arts Council funding to experiment with creative recording sessions with musicians, starting with a harp player, and gets into the details of microphone placement and what he's trying to achieve. Jamie has been watching Pluribus on Apple TV and makes it his mission to get Richard on board. In "I Will Die on This Hill," Jamie argues that the moral panic around children's screen time is performative nonsense and what actually matters is what they're watching, then almost immediately admits he's not sure he fully believes his own argument. That leads into a proper conversation about...
