The Gap Between Us | A Starfinder 2e Actual Play Spherecast

The gang's all here... wait, really?! The teamwork is impressive, the moves are precise, they've got everything they need and more keycards than they can hold comfortably in one hand while also holding a two handed weapon.

We dive right back into a prolonged IN-gagement with some jellyfish like creatures that launch an all out attack on our crew... but not in the way you'd expect! But one thing leads to another as mushroom madness begins to encroach on our house hunters. Someone's not getting their deposit back.

Oops! An oddball start due to several technical difficulties might make editing a nightmare, but it doesn't slow our party down any. What does slow them down are these floating jellyfish like creatures that want to... absorb them? The gang gets "caught-up" in a perilous fight where escape isn't an option. But hey, at least Jexa is in the right apartment this time! But what you can obviously see isn't always the biggest danger...

Having survived their last epic battle, the crew spends some time recouping before setting out to "normalize" more of the building environmental systems. (Mysterious) Loot and goodies seem to be found around every corner, but that doesn't mean it's necessarily unguarded. But as they explore deeper, the "little" things are starting to sneak up on them...

Having endured all manner of bizarre threat and hardship, our survivors have persevered and grown to finally reach level three! But this newfound power might just lead to overconfidence...

With new strength and allies, the crew prepares to again face the most deadly foe they've encountered so far. Will they be strong enough? And what price might they have to pay to see this through?

Out of the frying pan and into the fire. This week our "perspective tenants" meet some of their potential neighbors and [80's comedy narrator voice] it doesn't go exactly like they hoped.

Further exploration of the formerly icy floors lead the crew into a terrifying situation requiring some hard choices. And from there things don't get less interesting... Something our players have been chasing for quite some time finally catches (up with) them.

Back to a normal record this week, and the crew is doing pretty well considering that one half of them doesn't trust the others not to use their friends decaying bodies to source drugs, and the other half are doing unspeakable things in front of the bathroom mirrors.

I'm pretty sure they did some good fighting and found some fun loot, but really, you can barely focus on it loot with those helicopters spinning round.

A bit of an unorthodox episode this week as technical troubles abound, but that doesn't slow our crew down any!

A brief reprieve from the horrors withing the Outré Accommodations gets deeper than some party members have maybe ever tread. But our Keymasters don't have long to relax before they discover something terrible that they wish they hadn't. But maybe it's from the darkest of places that true beauty is cultivated...

📖 About the Campaign...

This is what happens when you send a bunch of randos through a maze. One character has all the keys, one is absolutely clueless and the other two are absolutely pulling levers over and over again trying to break the game.

But as they forge full steam ahead, the crew keeps finding themselves in trouble in the bedroom(s), and this time it might be too hot to handle.

The survivors find out how fixed the apartments really are... and they're not surprised. They do seem to be disappointed though. As if it could really be THAT easy?!

A character did find a fashionable crossbody bag though, I wonder if they'll know how to use it. Perhaps to store all the empty batteries.

So having begun finding the keys to their castle, the survivors begin their quest to normalize the building to station norms. But it's not just that easy... is it?

OH man, Tarrik wanted to run and Jexa has been out of bullets for what feels like eons... it takes some grit for them all to get away from Daddy Shroom over here. I'm glad they do though, because it seems like we're actually starting to see some of the puzzle hidden in the trinkets they have been picking up.

The question is, how long will it take for these goobers to crack the key code?

Is the Beastmaster, like, dumb? Because this place is filled with literally the WORST stuff.

These fun-guys are so aggressive and hostile that they should be unalived on sight... so naturally our survivors - don't do that. Fennik-19 is just looking for their mommies, presumably because they seem like they're running a bit wild.

These survivors have a habit of fawning over the things most likely to kill them. No sir, the petite fungus monster that is 97% teeth will not NOT eat you. Back away slowly.

And while you're at it, the fungus that likely birthed it shouldn't be used recreationally. I'm pretty sure. They're not though, and I'm not putting it past them.

How many bullets do we have? Cause we're going to need them. Though the team does seem more confident now. Heck, Doxx is over there doing backflips off of countertops and pretending that Andrew gives out style points. Maybe he should?

At least we learn a bit about what they're up against, and the crew mostly manages to keep the green globs at bay.

The confidence level is like night and day over here. No longer a floundering rag-tag crew, this gang knows what to expect and how to get the job done. It's gonna bum me out way more though if (when) they falter. Nope. They're fine! Everything is fine!

I am a bit worried that this "Beastmaster" is playing at something that these dummies don't even understand yet. Perhaps time will tell! Either that or Jexa will. She's got this knowing look. Though Tarrik may be the only one keeping score. The other two seem a bit distracted.

The crew gets a break from relentless combat to get to know their new friend Nirdra and she's able to shed some light on the recent history of the apartment building as well as some of the creatures within it.

Of course, this comes with a small request to backtrack a bit. We certainly ran through some recent floors without wholly extinct-ing the beasts who live there and now it's time to pay the piper.

Q: How many sharpwing eyes does it take to see a door open?

A: [...I don't know, probably...

Offa-doofa. This one is off to the races without any preamble. The crew has no time to waste if they're going to save their rat. Everyone light a candle for poor Jexa. Perhaps if she makes it through this she'll learn the value of friendship or whatever.

We also learn this week what's behind some more doors! Sometimes it's friends, often it's warring monsters. Sometimes... a kitty cat. Are we not going to comment on the new kitty cat art? I noticed!

Roadblocks and tough decisions loom large in the face of already great adversity.<...

Oh hey, what's up. You're our healer right? I'm just, like SOO close to death. Can you help a sister out? Right, I know I'm not being super effective, but something about the dice gods. Amiright?! Anyway... yeah. Okay, I'll just be over here... when you're ready. Any time now.

Battle noises continue ...as Andrew announces some good news?! Surely it's not another hit on our crew. Right?

A whole new level for our players comes right in time for them to NEED IT. They rush ahead with a foolproof plan... open a door and toss a grenade. What could go wrong? Never mind Tarrik standing in the doorway dumbfounded at just how many of those retriever-sized bugs are in there.

Surely what comes next doesn't involve them catching enemy fire... right? Right?! Just waive your underwear folks, I'm sure they're all reasonable.

Brrrr. The cold is really starting to settle into the crew's bones as they fight their way across the floor. These eggs seem chill enough, but they are EVERYWHERE and they keep falling off the countertops like there is a cat giving them a playful shove. It's not a cat though, it's a giant rat. Speaking of rats, Jexa "tactically scouts ahead", alone, while everyone else fights for their lives (surprise). Oh, and there is also a cat too...? and even folks we did not expect? Madness builds to end-of-year cliffhanger!

It’s a Christmas Episode ...because of the hat, I guess? It's also vaguely festive because of all the snow, but it's slowly killing them, so that puts a damper on things.

In other news, these eggs have too many eyes, and they seem a bit temperamental. The gang has got their work cut out for them making this floor habitable. I know they're hoping to just cook them all and call it a day, but something is telling me it's going to be a fight; all the way to the kitchen.

That they have their characters slowly walking around in cramped high-gravity with mind eating slime monsters WITHOUT covering all of their orifices is wild though. The house is falling apart and it's filled with black mold, but the Property Brothers can turn it around... wait, is that even an accurate analogy? Better than House Hunters for sure. We're definitely in our renovation beat.

So now the crew is working on clearing out the house... of fire elementals; doing a sweep of the lava level to make this environmental surprise apartment habitable by some more basic creatures. What else will they find along the way? Themselves? Introspection happens at the strangest of times. Perhaps climbing through a utility hatch has that effect on...

Let's go ahead and call this one "Oops, all fortitude saves."

We've been wet for awhile now and STILL Jexa thinks she's invincible. Deep down I think it's really Yan trying to give GM Andrew a heart palpitation. Will she make it? I may not matter, Fennik is still 4,802 paces behind and asking if he should maybe speed things up.

Nah Fennik, you do you. Slow and steady. It's not like there are unfriendlies about. Also apparently leather vests and slightly protruding body parts do not mix well. But we'll leave the boys alone to handle the chafing.

Which base will the crew choose? Jexa isn't allowed near schools apparently; so that leaves the Holovid Studio and the Specialty Apartments.
