Slightly Above Average Podcast

This week, we taste-test and rank 10 levels of sour candy, scaling from mild gas station treats to mouth-puckering, eye-watering disasters. We put our confidence scores on record before Level 1, built out the ultimate sour tier board, and found out who breaks first when the candy gets ridiculously extreme. Happy Halloween from all of us at Slightly Above Average —drop a comment and let us know what level you’d tap out at!

We each brought three secret tools to the shop—ranging from cheap budget hacks to 20-year-old garage staples—without telling the other guys what was coming. We revealed all nine tools, tested whether they actually work, and fought over what’s actually worth owning. By the end, only one tool will take home the crown.

Every garage has a tool that seemed like a great idea at the store and has done absolutely nothing since. Today, we brought in our own regret purchases, added up what we actually spent, and picked the ten tools that are the biggest wastes of money for the average garage owner. Some are cheap gimmicks. Some are genuinely good tools that make no sense to buy for one project. And at least one of us is about to find out his favorite tool made the list.

There's a list of things you're just supposed to know how to do — and nobody ever actually wrote it down. Your dad showed you some of it, YouTube taught you the rest, and there's a handful you've been faking for fifteen years. Today we're settling what actually belongs on that list, with...

Over the past three years, we've dropped thousands of dollars on Shark Tank tools, gadgets, and garage gear — the brilliant, the useless, and the stuff we genuinely can't believe we bought. Today we're pulling all of it onto the table, but first we're yanking the curtain back on the show itself: how the deals actually work, why half of them are fake, and how a guy giving up 20% of a sponge built a billion-dollar empire.

Every tool brand has a fanbase, and every fanbase has a guy you can picture instantly — the Milwaukee guy who calls his batteries an "investment," the Ryobi homeowner who bought one weed whacker and woke up in a 47-tool ecosystem, the Snap-on guy making $85K and owing $120K on the truck. Today we're not ranking the tools — we're ranking the people who worship them. We draft the stereotypes, put each other on trial for our own brand sins, and then tier every fanbase from S to F. To settle the debate once and for all, we’re throwing them all on an S-to-F tier list—judging the crust, the value, the consistency, and what you should actually be ordering from each one.
