Only Bombs! Comedy Podcast

One year of Only Bombs! 💣🎉

I can't believe it's already been a year!

For this special anniversary episode, I brought back my good friend Chen, the very first guest on Only Bombs!

If you watched the early episodes, you might remember that Chen had to come back several times because I kept screwing things up. Somehow, after all that, she still agreed to come back and celebrate the first anniversary with me. 😂

This episode is a little different.

Chen and I catch up on life, comedy, and everything that's happened...

Jason Vest is an Austin comedian, retired Army veteran, and host of the Thank You 4 Your Service podcast.

Jason started stand-up comedy in his forties. After years in the military and working for the government, he decided to take a chance on something he loved.

I had a great time sitting down with Jason. We talked about his military experience, getting started in comedy, his appearances on Kill Tony, and how sharing his stories online completely changed his life.

There are some absolutely ridiculous stories in this conversation, but it also gets pretty...

Tony Scar is a musical comedian from Iowa City, Iowa, whose style combines stand-up comedy, original music, and crowd work. He's also a Kill Tony Golden Ticket winner, but there's a lot more to his story than that.

I really enjoyed sitting down with Tony. We talked about how he got started in comedy, the experiences that shaped him, his approach to writing and performing, and what he hopes to accomplish in the future.

There are some great stories in this episode, plenty of laughs, and it was just fun to shoot. I really appreciate...

Joe Newcomer is one of those people you’re always happy to see. If you spend time around Austin comedy, you’ve probably seen him working, smiling, and getting ready for another stage. I wanted to sit down and hear how he became that person.

In Episode 41 of Only Bombs!, Joe opens up about his life before stand-up, six years spent recovering, and finding something worth putting his whole heart into. We talk about Kill Tony, fatherhood, the friendships that shaped him, and learning to enjoy a life that still has its share of unfinished business.

This episode is with Lino Rodriguez, and this one goes all over the place in the best way.

Lino grew up in South Mississippi watching Comedy Central and genuinely never thought becoming a comedian was something he could actually do. A few years later, he got on Kill Tony, moved to Austin to pursue comedy, started getting into roast battles, and eventually found himself performing at the Comedy Mothership.

We talk about what his life actually looks like when he is not onstage, why he gravitates toward late night comedy, what roast battles have taught...

Brandt Tobler joins me on Only Bombs! for a conversation about comedy, storytelling, taking chances, being broke, meeting your heroes, and how all of that played a part in his journey.

Brandt grew up in Wyoming, where becoming a comedian seemed so unrealistic that he said he thought he had a "better chance of becoming an astronaut." We get into his move to Las Vegas, chickening out of stand-up for two years, bombing his way through the early days and eventually realizing that being more honest and vulnerable made people connect with him even more.

...

Frank Caesar joins me on Only Bombs! for a conversation about roast battles, stand up comedy, the Austin comedy scene, and what happens when the momentum you’ve been building suddenly gets knocked off course.

This episode really became about three things: roast, reflect, and rebuild. We get into how Frank approaches roast battles, what actually goes into writing and preparing for them, his path into stand up, moving to Austin, and the competitive side of a comedy scene where everybody is trying to figure out how to make something happen.

Frank also opens up ab...

Yaqiao Yang came to America from Hunan, China long before stand up comedy was ever part of the plan. Years later, she found herself doing open mics, headlining shows, traveling for comedy, developing her own style, and eventually performing in front of an arena crowd. In this episode of the Only Bombs! Comedy Podcast, Yaqiao and I sit down for a full interview about how she found stand up, learning to write and tighten jokes, developing confidence on stage, reading different audiences, crowd work, touring, Kill Tony, and what she has learned from building her comedy career her own...

🎤 What does it actually take to survive stand up comedy in Austin?

Comedian AJ Higlesias joins ONLY BOMBS! to talk bombing, open mics, Kill Tony, finding your voice, social media, psychedelics, and the realities of trying to make comedy work.

AJ talks about why he moved to Austin specifically for comedy, doing stand up on mushrooms, learning from rough sets, finding his place in the Austin comedy scene, and figuring out who he is on stage.

We also get into something almost every comedian has to deal with now: social media. Somehow, one rid...

Extra, extra! This episode has extras! As it turns out Yoel and I have something in common: we were both extras on TV and in movies! Yoel and I discuss everything from Legos to Communism in this easy-to-listen-to chat. Yoel and I work together at a certain Austin comedy club. He goes up on stage and has some seriously hilarious stories when he performs. The best part is he brings that fun sense of humor to the podcast. So grab an Arizona green tea or Sunny D, and come sit down for a cool, refreshing, hilarious conversation! Thanks for...

The doctor is in! In this mysterious episode, Dr. Rabbit takes us into a world of conspiracy. Watch and listen as we discuss her favorite conspiracies and my ignorance of all of them. This was a hilarious episode because at many points I didn’t even know the conspiracy for which we were speaking. Nonetheless, the topics go far and wide. She also discusses her victory in court when she sued Meta and actually won; it comes with a price, though! Tune in this week before it gets classified! Thanks for coming on the show, Doc! - Trey

Kimberly Koester is back 💣 and this time we went deep. We're talking about what it really takes to chase this comedy dream, what it's like living with someone who's blowing up while you're still grinding, and what happens when you give up everything just to get on stage and make people laugh. She's been on Kill Tony, she closed her business, moved from Colorado to Austin, and she's still out here doing it. This one got real. 💥 Grab a cup of coffee and come hang with us. - Trey

In this episode I sit down with Isaiah Pichardo, an Austin comedian, as he tells me his journey in finding standup comedy and how it inspires him. Sitting down with Isaiah was a wonderful example of hearing about the grind. Isaiah will be outside "barking," which is advertising a comedy show outside the club to get more patrons inside, and go onto whichever stage he can to get some time behind the mic. His ambition and tenacity really come through and show what it’s like for newer comedians getting into a scene. This was such a fun and hi...

Drew Nickens pulls up to Only Bombs and we get into all of it. 💣 Drew is originally from Washington but made his way to the DFW comedy scene where he spent years grinding, figuring out his identity on stage, and doing everything right without getting booked. After weeks of showing up, he finally got pulled on Kill Tony and everything changed. 💥

What makes Drew special isn't just the laughs though. Dude dealt with a brain injury that made the whole journey that much harder and still figured it out on his own terms. Now he's a nationally tourin...

In this episode Yehee and I sit down for a nice conversation about her traveling here from Korea and navigating the comedy scene with cerebral palsy. She has made appearances on KillTony as well as Soft White Underbelly. Her disability has never stopped her from accomplishing her dreams and tackling things that most won't even start. This was a fun episode that I know you will enjoy watching, almost as much as I enjoyed putting it together. Thank you for coming on the show, Yehee! This was so much fun! - Trey

This is definitely a fun and hilarious episode! 💥 Lindsey brings her wonderful sense of humor onto the pod for her first solo episode but second appearance. She was here before with her husband, Trey Campbell (ep. 5! Check it out! 💣), and that was so fun as well!

Lindsey has made several appearances on Kill Tony and is always a treat to see. She also runs a Tuesday open mic in Austin at Mage's Sanctum. I have gone myself and bombed 💣 but the other comics were amazing, Lindsey included, so it will definitely be worth checking out if you're in the Au...

So this week I sit down with Killtony alum, G Pow. G Pow has been coming around the comedy clubs and making a name for himself here in Austin. Originally from New Jersey, G Pow brings his observational, semi-clean humor to the stage, and he’s undeniably funny! I certainly enjoyed the wonderful and humorous conversation we had, and I know you will too.

We once more get into different things that we both find funny and relate to comedians that we both share a love for! So strap on your suspenders and hang on, 'cause this is...

In this crazy episode that took several days of filming due to me having several jobs and my camera being messed up for some reason…. Solomon was super patient with me and the equipment issues that arose. Solomon has been in the Austin comedy scene for 3 years, with 3 appearances on KillTony. He hails from Pakistan and made his way to Austin by way of New York. This feller is a well-traveled, well-spoken individual with a wealth of knowledge from the theater. Solomon also has his project “Comedy Cowboys” (link below), where he interviews comedians around the Austin area. Go check...

This episode marks the milestone for the first-ever freestyle rap. It’s almost like I’m becoming “Trey In The Morning." I wonder if Eminem would come talk comedy? 🤔 Anyway, Trevor Ray and I have a conversation that spans across many topics. I learn some things about hockey, Chicago to Austin (coincidence?), and the similarities between comedy and music. This was such a fun episode to make happen. Thank you so much for being on the show, Trevor! - Trey

In this episode Monarey and I have a discussion about her life and how comedy has played a part in it. She opens up about the LA, NYC, and Austin comedy scenes and shares her experience navigating them. This is such a great conversation, and as a newer comic, I really learned a lot. Most comedians don’t quit because they’re not funny… they quit because of this. In Episode 20 of Only Bombs!, Cuzzin Paul breaks down what it really takes to start stand-up comedy — from bombing on stage and getting humbled at open mics, to the mental grind that makes most people walk away. This isn’t the highlight reel… this is the reality. If you’ve ever thought about getting on stage, or you’re already in it, this is the part nobody talks about. New episodes and clips every week. In this episode I have a nice conversation with my friend, Chen. This is the first time someone has made a repeat visit on the show. In 2025 Chen came over 3 times before I released the very first episode on October 31st. Now I have 15 episodes done, including this one. While it might not seem like a lot, Chen coming over as my unofficial guinea pig helped me launch the podcast into what it is 4 months later. The episode is Chen's redemptCHEN. Thanks for helping me out, Chen. I hope you like the episode. -Trey

In this episode I sit down with Ernest Evans Sr., a comedian who has some serious work ethic. Ernest has always had a knack for making people laugh, especially during his time in the military. In this episode of Only Bombs, comedian Donna Lee and I sit down and get into the real stuff. We talk about her journey through comedy, being a runner-up on Nick@Nite’s Search for the Funniest Mom in America, making two appearances on Kill Tony, and sharing stages with some heavy hitters in the game.

We get into the manifested destinies, the bombs, the chaos in between, and the stories you only hear from someone who’s actually living it.

It’s honest, it’s funny, and it’s a laid-back conversation that feels like you’r...

In this episode I reflect with my brother, Matt O'Rourke about starting this podcast, his growth as a comedian and improv performer and what the future holds.

This is a special episode for me because it is a return to the original format of our show. Stripped down, not sure how it's going to go down but happy to be just sitting down and having a conversation with my brother. I hope that you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed filming and editing it. -Trey

In this conversation, Trey and JP delve into the journey of a comedian, exploring the growth in stage presence, the fear of performing, and the unpredictable nature of corporate gigs. They discuss the challenges faced when performing for audiences that may not be receptive, and the cultural disconnect that can occur in comedy. The conversation also touches on the technical difficulties that can arise during performances and the need for comedians to adapt to various situations.
