Casually Spiraling
Welcome to Casually Spiraling with me, Julie Bishop — just a tall girl in this world, trying to make sense of life, dating, money, relationships, identity, culture… you know, all the things. I’ve learned that my thoughts don’t always land with the people around me — so I’m here to break it all down, talk it out (probably overshare), and maybe find some who don’t think I’m totally crazy after all
Behind the Roles: Jawbreaker The Musical, L.O.L. Surprise, and Real Content ft. Méami Pt. 2
We are back with more Méami for a part 2. Enjoy!
I’m so excited for this one. This week’s guest is Méami, an actress, singer, content creator, wife, and mother who represents everything I started this podcast to talk about: doing it all and not limiting yourself.
In this episode we start from the beginning: what she was like growing up, whether she always knew she was a performer, and what it felt like to watch her dreams take off while we were both still working at the restaurant. We get into mother...
Mother, Actress, Wife, Creator, Woman: Doing It All Without Limiting Yourself ft. Méami Pt.1
We get into motherhood, she shares her insane birth story for the first time ever, what it’s...
Lets Chat About Voting
Midterm elections are coming up and I think a lot of us are going to let it slip by without showing up. Not because we don’t care but because it feels overwhelming and confusing and we’re not totally sure what we’re even voting for.
This week I’m breaking it all down, what midterms actually are, why they matter just as much as the presidential election, how to get informed without it being a whole thing, and the practical stuff like early voting and finding your polling place.

Heading Into Q4 With a Plan
It's October. This year somehow went by faster than any year I can remember. And I have a lot of feelings about where I am going into the last few months of it.
This week is a Q4 vibe check, life, what's coming, what I'm still working toward, and what I want the rest of 2026 to actually feel like. Plus the podcast is almost one year old and I need to acknowledge that because it's kind of a big deal.
Grind mode activated. Let's get into it.

<...Signs You're On the Right Track: A Follow Up to Feeling Stuck
I haven't booked anything. But something feels different.
This week I'm getting into the small signs that things are starting to move, a conversation with my mentor that I haven't been able to stop thinking about, and what faith actually looks like when it's not a permanent feeling but something you keep choosing to come back to.
For anyone who needed to hear that the signs episode comes after the stuck episode, this one's for you.

Does Dating Require Playing a Little Game?
I redownloaded Hinge. And immediately started spiraling.
Here's my dilemma: I want to attract someone who will love my weird, goofy, unfiltered self. But also, they have to be attracted to me first. And the weird goofy version of me doesn't always translate in three photos and a bio before someone even knows me.
So this episode is about that tension. The one between wanting to be completely yourself from the jump and also wanting someone to swipe right. Between showing up authentically and showing up attractively. Between being real and being strategic.

Friendship Breakups Hit Different
We talk about romantic breakups constantly. We have scripts for them, rituals for them, friends who rally around us after them. But a friendship breakup? You mostly just go through that one alone.
This week I'm getting into friendship breakups, the different ways they happen, how to know when it's time, how to actually walk away, and why losing a close friend can honestly hit harder than losing a boyfriend. Personal stories included.
You're allowed to grieve this one. Let's talk about it.

Reacting to Your Chaos
You sent in your stories. I have thoughts.
This week is a listener submission episode, your dating situations, friendship dilemmas, life scenarios, and would you rathers, and my completely honest unfiltered reactions to all of it. Some of these had me speechless. Some hit too close to home.
Come for the chaos, stay for the reactions. Keep sending them in because we're doing this again.

Throwback Thursday: Casually Ignoring the Red Flags
In this Throwback episode from January, we’re diving into the subtle red flags in relationships. The ones that show up early but don’t feel serious enough to address at the time. Control disguised as concern. Jealousy mistaken for passion. Feeling unsafe to communicate. Being with someone who doesn’t respect your friends, your independence, or your excitement for life.
Red flags aren’t always dealbreakers in the moment, but they’re data. And ignoring data doesn’t make it disappear.

The Unglamorous Truth About Acting
Only 2% of actors make their living solely from acting. The person you think just came out of nowhere has probably been at this for ten years. And auditioning isn't even half of what the actual job looks like day to day.
This week I'm getting into everything people get wrong about what it means to pursue acting — the money, the glamour myth, the overnight success lie, what the work actually looks like, and why one booking is never the finish line.

<...What If It's Taking Longer Than I Thought & That Stuck Feeling
My friends are getting engaged, moving in together, buying homes, getting promotions. And I'm still waiting for an agent and wondering when something is going to click.
This week I'm getting honest about feeling stuck. The specific kind of stuck that comes when multiple areas of your life feel still at the same time and you look up and realize how much time has passed. I'm not where I thought I'd be. And lately I've been genuinely doubting whether I'm going to get there.

Okay So Apparently I'm Intimidating
Do you think your confidence intimidates people? Because someone close to me suggested mine might and I've been spiraling about it ever since.
This week we're getting into the intimidation factor, height, confidence, first impressions, and whether you should ever have to soften yourself to seem more approachable. Plus the double standard of what confidence looks like on a woman vs. a man and why the right person just won't be intimidated anyway.

Dating Around for my Therapist
Finding a good therapist is just like dating. And we all know how exhausting dating is.
This week I'm getting into my full therapy journey, the bad experiences, the awkward silences, the homework I didn't ask for, the insurance spiral, and where I am right now. Which is still searching, still figuring it out, and very much without a neat conclusion.
No happy ending yet. Just honesty. And maybe that's exactly what we all need to hear.

Things I Was Wrong About
This week I'm getting into the things I used to believe that I've completely reversed on. Some of them are heavy, some of them are funny, all of them are real. We're talking about why love actually isn't enough on its own, what I got wrong about friendship and trying to make everyone like you, why I now fully drink caffeine after swearing I never would, how my relationship with fitness has completely changed, what I learned about staying in something too long, why I was wrong to write someone off for lack of instant attraction, and the money...
Q&A: You Asked, I Spiraled pt.2
We're back with another Q&A and since we've had some new listeners join the Casually Spiraling family lately, it felt like the perfect time.
But first: a July 4th recap. Sore throat and all, we did not let anything hold us back, Love Island watch party, brunch, a beach bar, fireworks, dancing, the whole thing. One of those weekends that reminds you exactly why you say yes to life and surround yourself with the right people.
Then we get into your questions. How Casually Spiraling got its name, whether I'd ever do a reality...
Everything's Changing: The Messy Transitions ft. Emily Gee
Emily's back!! Long-time listeners will remember her as our very first guest ever on episode 8, and so much has changed since then. New career path. Off the market. Full pursuit of new goals and dreams. We're both deep in our own "in-between" eras right now, and this episode is the catch-up we both needed.
We get real about the messy middle of a transitional period, the part nobody shows on the highlight reel, where everything is changing at once and your emotions are a full rollercoaster. We talk about staying connected to who you are when so...
Doing Everything and Still Feeling Behind
You're doing the work. You're showing up. You're saying yes to the right things and trying to say no to the wrong ones. And somehow you still end your week feeling like you failed.
This episode is about that feeling, the one nobody really talks about because from the outside everything looks fine. We're getting into the checklist that never gets shorter, the weeks that were supposed to be chill and weren't, and the guilt of actually living your life while also trying to build something big.
Whether you're pursuing a dream career, trying to...
How to Not Let Summer Pass You By
Summer always seems to disappear before we know it. This week I'm talking about why so many of us spend the season waiting, for plans, people, more money, or the perfect moment, and how that keeps us from actually enjoying it.
From solo adventures and Hot Girl Summer's rebrand to summer ins, outs, and making memories without breaking the bank, consider this your reminder that your life shouldn't be on pause.
Because the best summer isn't the one that looks the most exciting online, it's the one you were actually present for.

Am I Lonely or Did My Vacation Just End?
This week we're talking about the emotional withdrawal that hits after weddings, vacations, family visits, and all the moments that make real life feel a little dull when they're over.
After coming home from my sister's wedding, I found myself navigating that familiar crash: going from constant connection, celebration, and fun back to work, routine, and reality. We're talking about why it happens, why it can make you question your entire life, and how to get through the adjustment without making any dramatic decisions.

Are Dating Apps Bad for Our Mental Health?
WE'RE BACKKKK BITCHES!
This week on Casually Spiraling, we're talking dating apps and mental health.
After realizing a friend and I had both deleted the apps for completely opposite reasons, I started wondering why the experience left us both feeling exhausted.
I share my own experience with dating app burnout, how the apps started affecting my confidence and self-worth, and some of the research around dating apps, loneliness, anxiety, and emotional exhaustion.
This isn't an anti-dating-app episode. People find great relationships on them every day. But sometimes the cost to your m...

...Throwback Thursday: The Big D
this week I am off being my sister's maid of honor on her big day! yay! that means we have a throwback thursday!
today we’re diving into the big D—dating, obviously. I’m talking about what dating looks like in 2025, my own experiences with apps, the chaos, the friendzone, the fatigue, and the constant struggle between being open, having fun, and not wasting your precious time.
From dating fatigue to standards, from personality over looks to friendzoning by accident—this episode is all about finding that sweet spot between enjoying the ride and knowing...

This Throwback Thursday we are taking it back to where it all started...
This episode is a deep dive into uncertainty, specifically, my uncertainty about having children. While so many people seem sure about what they want, I’m still figuring it out. I share my spiraling thoughts, the “what ifs,” and how it feels to exist in that in-between space of maybe.

Throwback Thursday: How to Find Balance (Re-Release)
I am currently finding balance in many things in my life so this week we are throwing it back to finding balance with a re-release! Incase you missed it or need a little reminder...enjoy :)
In this episode, I talk about the struggle of wanting everything, career, creativity, money, and freedom while also craving peace, rest, and time to actually enjoy life.
I get into the reality of burnout (even doing things you love), the pressure to do it all, and the constant pull between focusing on one path or chasing multiple passions.

Stop Being a Lazy Friend
When did it become normal to not show up for your friends?
In this episode, I talk about the shift in friendship culture from canceling plans, “protecting your energy,” and how sometimes it feels like we’ve lowered the standard of what it means to be a good friend. I get it, we’re all tired. But there’s a difference between real burnout and just not feeling like it.
We get into flakiness, last-minute cancellations, and why consistency matters more than any excuse. Because it’s not about being perfect, it’s about showing up for the peo...
Customer Service Horror Stories
This episode is basically a compilation of the most unhinged things I experienced working in customer service, from being yelled at over groceries at 16, to dealing with entitled gym members, to full-on chaos as a barista and shift supervisor.
Think: drinks being thrown, customers expecting mind-reading, toxic managers, and coworkers trauma bonding just to survive a shift.
If you’ve ever worked in customer service… you already know.
If you haven’t, this might scare you

Things I'm Romanticizing Right Now
After fully spiraling last week, I’m back with a reset episode on something that’s been helping me lately: romanticizing the small things.
From solo time and coffee walks to beach sunsets (no man required), easy friendships, and even the random little joys, I’ve been leaning into anything that makes life feel a bit softer right now.
I’m also trying to romanticize the unknown. I don’t know exactly where life is headed, but I’m choosing to see the possibility in that instead of fear.

Pivoting Your Dreams & Surviving the Dating Trenches ft. Kat Do
This week we have another amazing guest on the pod, Kat Do. We get messy real quick and talk acting classes that feel a bit like cults, pivoting when the dream stops feeling like yours, and the reality of most people don't actually have it figured out at 18.
Plus: dating in LA. The stereotypes. The apps. The icks. And stories from the trenches.

<...How Anxiety Can Manifest
This week I’m spiraling about anxiety, the buzzword we hear nonstop now, but didn’t really talk about growing up.
From being the “perfect” student, to college syllabus days sending me into a full spiral, to overthinking every text and needing a buddy to walk into a room..anxiety has shown up in my life in more ways than I realized.
We’re talking perfectionism, overthinking, social anxiety, chemical imbalances, and the freedom that comes from realizing: this isn’t a personality flaw.
I don’t have a magic fix. I still spiral.

Finding Confidence Around Body Image
This week’s spiral is a vulnerable one.
After a quick side quest about aging, caffeine, and realizing my body is… changing (rude), we get into the real topic: body image.
I’m talking about growing up tall and feeling like I took up too much space. The years of constantly thinking about how I looked. The phases of feeling like I couldn’t be seen without being “put together.” The social media comparison trap. The confidence that comes in waves — one day feeling strong and grateful, the next spiraling over a single bad photo.

Normalize Being Messy Again
This week’s spiral is about reclaiming messiness in your 20s. Somewhere along the way, being young turned into perfect routines, early bedtimes, and treating life like a performance review and I’m calling bullshit.
Being messy doesn’t mean being self-destructive. It means saying yes sometimes, staying out late, making mistakes, kissing people you won’t marry, missing a workout because life happened, and actually living. Especially after everything our generation has been through, a pandemic, impossible dating culture, a brutal job market, rising costs, nonstop comparison, and a terrifying political climate.
We didn’t get the...
How to Not Be a People Pleaser
This week I’m spiraling about journal tok and why wellness culture sometimes feels like another way we’re told there’s a “right” way to be healthy (and if you don’t do it perfectly, you’re failing). From there, I share some 2026 pod predictions (no goals, just vibes and consequences) and then get into people pleasing. Why we do it, how it shows up, and how to start fighting those tendencies without becoming mean or cold.
We talk saying yes when you don’t want to, fearing conflict, over-apologizing, setting boundaries, and learning how to be honest withou...

This week on Casually Spiraling, I’m joined by a dear friend and seriously inspiring human—Ananda Palmore. You may know her from Peacock’s Fight Night alongside Kevin Hart and Don Cheadle, or from her honest, thoughtful writing on Substack.
We talk about how we met post-grad in Atlanta, growing up in the industry together, and what it’s been like navigating acting, rejection, and big dreams—now from LA. Ananda opens up about her time at Spelman, finding pride and community, and learning how to take up space without losing kindness.
