SHAKE OFF THE DUST

What happens when we are trying to do right, but our vision becomes clouded?

Isaiah finds Zion sitting in the dust. Deuteronomy puts justice at the gate. Acts finds Saul on the road—educated, zealous, certain, and still capable of doing harm.

This study asks a harder question than simply, “Are we pursuing justice?”

Are we pursuing it justly?

Liberation changes our condition, but it does not automatically heal our posture. We can come out of bondage and still walk like the chains are there. We can...

MORE THAN A CLEAN SLATE

Re’eh | Deuteronomy 15:7–15 + 2 Corinthians 5:17–21

What does a second chance really require?

We often imagine freedom as an open door: the debt is canceled, the chains are removed, and yesterday no longer controls the account. But Re’eh asks a harder question:

What is in their hand when they walk out?

In Deuteronomy 15, Torah commands Israel not only to release the person in the seventh year, but:

“When you send him forth free from you, you must not send him forth empty-handed.”

That comma...

Scripture Readings: Psalm 116:1–9 John 20:24–29 Deuteronomy 8:11–18 Isaiah 49:14–16

Last Sunday, we learned that the cloud still knows the way. This week, the cloud moves into the hands.

The proud hand forgets. The wounded hand testifies. The hand of God remembers.

JOHN 20:24–29

The Absent Disciple and the Wounds That Produce Witness

The center of this passage is not Thomas’s doubt.

The center is Messiah entering a locked room and saying, “Peace be with you.”

Thomas is often called “Doubting Thomas,” but Scripture calls him the Twin. He is a wounde...

THE CLOUD STILL KNOWS THE WAY

Torah: Deuteronomy 1:29–33 Gospel: John 14:1–7 Psalm: Psalm 105:39–45

For much of July, Anchorage lived beneath rain. Then the sun returned, and ordinary light felt like a gift. But Scripture reminds us not to lose our wonder when the clouds gather again. Israel was not led by clear skies. God went before them in a cloud by day and fire by night. The cloud did not reveal the whole wilderness. It revealed enough to obey.

Sometimes the cloud is not hiding the road. Sometimes the cloud is saying, “This way.”

Numbers 33 records where Israel departed, not only where they arrived. Luke 19 records the moment Messiah stopped walking through Jericho and stayed. This week's study, "When Salvation Stops," follows both texts through the stations of a journey — leaving Egypt's identity behind, turning back toward what we thought we escaped, facing the bitter water at Marah, and finding shade at Elim. God changes the meaning of the place, and the people who pass through it.

Prophet: Jeremiah 35:5–11 — The Rechabites’ VowTorah / Creation: Genesis 2:4–17 — The Breath and the GardenPsalm: Psalm 46 — “God is our refuge and strength”

Episode Summary

This teaching braided two seemingly distant scenes — a nomadic clan in Jeremiah who refuse wine in Jerusalem, and the earth in Genesis 2 that sends up a mist before any rain ever fell. Both are doing the same spiritual act: holy restraint.

The Rechabites show that covenant can be kept inside a bigger covenant — “a vow within the vow.”Genesis...

“Assemble, Remember, Do: Mercy That Trains”

Episode Focus Before God sends a sword, He sends a sermon. Micah’s closing mercy and Moses’ seven-year assembly teach a discipline of prophetic memory: assemble → hear → learn → revere → do.

Scripture Set

Psalm 103:8–13 — Compassion that outlasts anger.Micah 7:18–20 — God casts sins into the sea; truth to Jacob, ḥesed to Abraham.Deuteronomy 31:10–13 — The septennial public reading: gather everyone (men, women, children, converts) to hear and keep Torah.

Mercy isn’t leniency; it’s apprenticeship. Forgiveness clears the ledger so grace can train us (Titus 2): from assembled hearing to embodied doing.

Strength often looks like silence and steadiness. God’s Servant brings restorative justice—healing what’s bruised, fanning faint embers, freeing the bound—rather than retaliatory payback. Deuteronomy’s promise of circumcised hearts explains how this is possible: God reshapes us to love rightly, then sends us to be light.

Key Text Highlights

Isaiah 42:1 – “Look at my servant… I have put my Spirit upon him.”Isaiah 42:3–4 – “He will not break a bruised reed… until justice prevails.”Deut 30:3–6 – God gathers the scattered and cuts away what blocks love, enabling true covenant faithfulness.

Episode Summary

We explore how closed-fist consumerism quietly enslaves the heart while open-handed generosity trains us for covenant freedom. Through Deuteronomy 15 (within Parashat Re’eh) and Ephesians 4:4–16, we connect Torah’s command to “open your hand” with Paul’s vision of a body where “every joint supplies.” Local Anchorage imagery—first “termination dust” on Chugiak—frames the urgency: seasons change; so must we.

In this week’s episode of Zion Empowered, we opened our time together with prayer and reflection, grounding ourselves in Psalms, Deuteronomy, and Isaiah. Our focus was on the message “When the Bed is Too Short”—a reminder that when we build on lies, alliances, or worldly success, the coverings we trust will never be enough.

We reflected on how God’s justice is not about punishment but restoration. Just as Judah once made false covenants, today we too can fall into misplaced trust—whether in consumer culture, prosperity teachings, or even our own achievements. Yet God, in His love...

This week we step inside the prophets and hear their cry: God’s justice is not about breaking us down, it’s about restoring us. From Zechariah’s call to love truth and peace, to Joel’s summons to tear our hearts instead of our clothes, we see that repentance is not performance — it’s transformation.

We wrestle with what it means to walk in truth (emet — from Aleph to Tav), and how faith without works is empty breath. Deuteronomy challenges us to love God with the whole heart — the good, the bad, and the parts we wish we could hi...

This week’s episode of Crossing the Read Sea dives into Parashat Devarim (דְּבָרִים), the first portion in the Book of Deuteronomy. As Moses recounts Israel’s wilderness journey, we explore the deeper meaning of leadership, waiting, and growth—not just as movement forward, but as cultivation in stillness.

In this episode of Zion Empowered, we step into the sacred tension between legacy and responsibility. Drawing from Psalms 132, 1 Corinthians 3:10–23, and Deuteronomy 1:12–21, the teaching reminds us that the true temple isn’t built by hands—it’s you. You are the house where God has chosen to dwell.

We explore Moses' burden of leadership, Paul’s call to humility, and the blueprint of a community that must be built on more than personalities. Through testimony, reflection, and real talk, the session calls us to inspect what we're building, question what we’re still carrying, and ask ourselves—are we passing d...

In this week’s "Crossing the read sea" study, we reflect on Parashat Masei, the final portion in the Book of Numbers. Meaning “Journeys,” Masei recounts the 42 stages of Israel’s travels through the wilderness from Egypt to the edge of the Promised Land.

Together, we examine the spiritual significance of each stopping point, not just as physical locations, but as markers of growth, struggle, and transformation. What do these stages reveal about our own spiritual journeys today? How do we carry memory, obedience, and trust across our deserts?

We also explore:
