Marcus Lush experiences Southland earthquake live on air
Newstalk ZB's Night Host Marcus Lush felt the 5.9 magnitude earthquake from his Invercargill studio.
The quake struck 40km north of Te Anau at 9.14pm this evening at a depth of 53km.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has assessed the quake and says strong currents are possible on the West Coast of the South Island from Milford Sound to Puysegur Point.
It has downgraded its tsunami warning to an advisory.
