Between 2002 and 2004, Ariel Castro abducted three young women — Michelle Knight, Amanda Berry, and Gina DeJesus — from neighborhoods near his home in Cleveland, Ohio, and held them captive for nearly a decade. On May 6, 2013, Amanda Berry escaped with her daughter, born in captivity, and called 911. Castro was arrested, sentenced to life plus 1,000 years, and died by suicide in his cell in September 2013.
