Sometimes they’re movies we love, and sometimes they’re just movies that have to be discussed. After our conversation, we choose a random topic for the next episode. We choose the next films live so you can watch along with us! Join us for some fun (and informative) conversations about movies!

Ep 54.5: You Can See Everything (2026) — But Do You See Anything At All?

Lance Oppenheim and Nathan Fielder's newest work is a masterpiece documentary about so many things. It is a long but impressive work of emotion, depth, and manipulation. There's an unbelievable amount going on here, so we just had to cover it!

Ep 54: Fantasy Movies: "Castle in the Sky" (1986) & "Sleepy Hollow" (1999)
10/15/2026

This week, we are looking at fantasy movies that create new worlds for viewers to become connected to. Shane's pick is more aligned with the genre, "Castle in the Sky," the first Studio Ghibli movie, and Ryan's wasn't as "fantasy" as he remembered, but Tim Burton's "Sleepy Hollow" does provide a witch, a creepy tree, a headless horseman, and a fair bit of otherworldlyness.

What's your take on the genre?

Ep 53.5: Scream Movies Tier List
10/08/2026

Here we are, finally talking about one of the most popular horror franchises of all time. The Scream movies are the epitome of meta horror, and we agreed quite a bit on how they all rank up in the grand scale of things.

What's your rankings?

Ep 53: Handheld Cameras: "Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie" (2026) & "Victoria" (2015)
10/02/2026

This week, we are diving into two examples of different ways that filmmakers can use handheld cameras for different reasons in their films. While Ryan loves found footage horror, we decided on two different options for this episode, but Ryan stuck with the found footage format and picked Matt Johnson's comedy masterpiece "Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie." Meanwhile, Shane picked the single shot 2 hour and 18 minute film, "Victoria," which uses handheld cameras to help the crew navigate the city without cutting during the run time.

Ep 52.5: Resident Evil (2026) — Finally a Good Video Game Movie?
09/24/2026

The new Zach Cregger movie is a dive into the world of the Resident Evil Universe. His decision to not rely on the existing characters and to use the world as an avenue to tell his own story hopefully can draw people in regardless of their background with the series. While we both are a bit mixed on it, we had a pretty strong conversation about this one both without spoilers and eventually with spoilers as well.

Ep 52: Knock-Offs: "Ratatoing" (2007) & "Starcrash" (1978)
09/17/2026

This week, we are exploring the horrible, awful, no-good world of knock-off films. Shane picked the 2007 Ratatouille knock-off, "Ratatoing", and Ryan picked "Starcrash" from 1978, which rips off the classic Star Wars. While we found some qualities that could be "so bad they're good" in each of these, overall, as you'd expect, these are pretty bad movies. Still, we had a ton of fun chatting about them.

What's your favorite so bad it's good movie experience?

Ep 51.5: Hope (2026) — Thrilling & Divisive
09/11/2026

The new Na Hong-jin film is a genre-bending thrill ride that hits theaters this week! The cinematography and score are indisputable, but the plot and progression may cause some disagreement (certainly, it does with us!). We always start these types of episodes off with a spoiler-free discussion, but then we dove really deep into this one, so stay tuned if you have seen it already to enjoy the spoiler discussion too.

Ep 51: Kaiju Movies: "Shin Ultraman" (2022) & "Shin Godzilla" (2016)
09/03/2026

This week, Shane and Ryan are talking about Kaiju movies! While Kaiju flicks have a long history back to the original movie in the 50s, we each picked a more recent adaptation from the many, many kaiju movies out there. Ryan picked Shin Godzilla from 2016 and Shane picked Shin Ultraman from 2022.

Ep 50: Roland Emmerich: "Stargate" (1994) & "Moonfall" (2022)
08/20/2026

This week, jumped head first into the world of Roland Emmerich films. Known best for his disaster blockbusters like "2012" or "The Day After Tomorrow", we went with 1994's "Stargate", which spawned a massive cult following and subsequent media, and 2022's disastrous "Moonfall", in which the Moon falls. While Emmerich's movies are met with mixed reactions, this is an interesting look at a 90s hit from him (during his peak) and a modern bomb, which may well represent these time periods in his filmography.

This week, we got to dive into two very different short films! We tackled "Meshes of the Afternoon", Maya Deren's innovative and dreamlike exploration at the front of American avant garde cinema, and we looked at "Bottle Rocket", which was expanded on in Wes Anderson's feature debut. Both films offer a lot of interesting ideas in very different ways! Together, it's less than half an hour of footage, so join us as we dive into the world of short films!

Ep 48.5: Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) — Box Office Record Breaker
08/01/2026

The newest entry in the MCU is out! But more importantly, Spider-Man: Brand New Day should feel separate enough from the many Disney+ shows for anyone to enjoy. It's packed with great Insomniac's Spider-Man-inspired action, an emotional core, and a bunch of surprises. Ep 48: Philip Seymour Hoffman: "The Master" (2012) & "Jack Goes Boating" (2010)
07/23/2026

This week, we are diving into the roles of the late great Philip Seymour Hoffman! His range and emotional depth are hallmarks of his appearance in any film, but we picked two that we were excited to chat about. Paul Thomas Anderson's "The Master" from 2012 shows his ability to play such a unique and striking character, and his own directorial effort, "Jack Goes Boating" from 2010 shows his prowess as an underspoken, shy character.

What are your favorite Philip Seymour Hoffman roles?

Ep 47.5: The Odyssey (2026) — An Epic IMAX Experience

The Odyssey has been one of the most highly anticipated movies of the year, and it is finally time. An epic journey that reflects deeply on war, trust, honor, and society, Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey brings us back to the world of oral storytelling as we experience Odysseus' voyage home firsthand. Nolan is a master at non-linear storytelling, and he does this 3000 year old story justice.

Ep 47: Sight & Sound Greatest of All Time: "Mirror" (1975) & "La Jetée" (1962)
07/09/2026

This week, we are tackling the greatest movies of all time, according to the Sight and Sound list that's compiled by their poll of critics, directors, and cinema experts! We picked two movies that we feel embody the list, "Mirror" by Andrei Tarkovsky, and "La Jetée" by Chris Marker. These are both experimental, artsy, and very unique. They are also both movies that are hard to explore without someone seeing them, so we recommend (as always) that you jump in with us after checking these movies out!

Ep 46.5: Supergirl (2026) — Is It That Bad?
06/30/2026

Supergirl may have flopped at the box office this weekend, but is it as bad as the headlines are all saying? We found some things to like about the movie and some issues with it, but the headlines will always try to exaggerate and get the most divisive views out there. It may not be a perfect movie, but it's got some charm.

Our category was Zombie Movies this week, so we picked... Scooby Doo? Well, at least Shane picked Shaun of the Dead, one of the greatest horror comedies of all time that leans on the tropes of the genre. Meanwhile, Ryan picked a childhood favorite that pulled him into horror, Scooby Doo on Zombie Island, which is packed with the gang exploring the haunted island, finding ghosts, zombies, and were-cats.

Ep 45: IMDb Top 250: "Leon: The Professional" (1994) & "The Sixth Sense" (1999)
06/11/2026

This week, we are diving into the IMDb Top 250 list with a movie we both loved—M Night Shyamalan's The Sixth Sense—and one that we both despised—Leon: The Professional by Luc Besson. We both watched the extended/director's cut of Leon, and had a very hard time separating the gross love plot in the movie from the cool action. Luckily, M. Night's iconic psychological thriller had plenty for us to enjoy and talk about.

Ep 44: Christopher Nolan: "Interstellar" (2014) & "Memento" (2000)

This week, we've got Christopher Nolan movies on the docket! Lauded as one of the most prestigious directors working today, Nolan has made some incredible movies during the 21st century—from the non-linear noir crime

thriller, Memento, to the scientist biopic Oppenheimer. When tasked with each picking a movie from his filmography, Ryan picked the starfaring epic, Interstellar from 2014, and Shane picked the formerly mentioned Memento from 2000.

Ep 42: TV Spin-Offs: "Batman" (1966) & "Batman: Mask of the Phantasm" (1993)
04/30/2026

This week, we are exploring movies based on television shows that we have yet to have watched! Coincidentally, we both picked Batman movies for this episode, and it was a blast exploring the "world's greatest detective" and his TV show spin offs. For Ryan's pick, we watched the 1966 Batman movie starring Adam West, while Shane picked the 1993 cult classic "Batman: Mask of the Phantasm" animated movie. Talking about these side-by-side let us explore how the character has changed (and the superhero genre as a whole) during the decades in between.

Ep 41.5: Birthday Picks: "The Life of Chuck" (2024) & "Computer Chess" (2013)
04/23/2026

With our birthdays both being this week, we decided to do a birthday movie swap! Ryan offered up Mike Flanagan's "The Life of Chuck" for the duo to watch and explore, while Shane brought "Computer Chess" by Andrew Bujalski to the table. Both movies are very unique in their own ways, and there is a lot to unpack with these two. Join us for this pairing and let us know your thoughts on these off-the-beaten-path picks!

Ep 41: Mads Mikkelsen: "Riders of Justice" (2020) & "At Eternity's Gate" (2018)
04/16/2026

This week, we watched two movies featuring the iconic Mads Mikkelsen! Shane picked the action/drama/comedy/revenge movie, "Riders of Justice" where Mads plays a hardcore military man who loses his wife in an accident and teams up with a couple of computer geniuses to take down the bad guys who caused the accident. It is surprisingly full of emotion, comedy, and depth, especially compared to more traditional revenge films. Meanwhile, Ryan picked "At Eternity's Gate," where Mads is in about 10 minutes of the movie playing a priest talking to Willem Dafoe's Vincent van Gogh.

We jumped into one of his earliest starring roles that helped him break out into the mainstream in 1978, "Drunken Master," directed by Yuen Woo-ping, where he mixed the martial arts and comedy genres to fuse them into a cohesive subgenre that exploded into popularity as a result.
