Who Ever Told YOU Well Done?

Once, they held gold and made a god out of it. It nearly destroyed them.

Now they hold gold again, and every piece carries the same words: as the LORD commanded.

Improvised worship built a calf. Obedience built a home. And when the work was done, Someone looked at it and blessed it.

Some of us are still waiting to hear that.

There is exactly one moment in the entire Bible where God's people have to be ordered to stop giving. It happens weeks after the worst thing they ever did.

The gold that became the golden calf is the same gold that becomes the house of God. Same people. Same hands.

Most of us have quietly decided the opposite about ourselves. We look at what we did with what we were handed, and we assume God will build His work with someone cleaner.

We walk Exodus 35 and 36, where Moses opens the building...

While God was still describing the home He wanted to share with them, they melted their gold into a calf. He didn't walk out.

There's a fear a lot of us never say out loud. The fear that you've finally done it. That you crossed some line, broke some promise one too many times, and God has quietly backed away for good.

This week an entire nation gave Him every reason to leave. Days after they heard His voice, they handed the glory of their rescue to a lump of gold.

After the worst thing they'd ever done, Moses asked to see God's glory. God answered by showing him something else.

You know the morning after. The thing you swore you'd never do again, done. The quiet you're sure is about to turn into a verdict.

That's the exact morning we step into today. And the first word God speaks over the wreckage is not the one you've been writing for Him.

You promised yourself you would do better.

Two million people stood at Sinai and promised to keep it all, in one voice. They broke it within weeks.

That was always the point.

You've stood at the foot of your own mountain more times than you can count. You know the rules. You've made the promise. And you keep falling short of the person you swore you'd become. What this week at Sinai reveals is that your exhaustion was never proof you hadn't tried hard enough. It was proof you were climbing something that was never yours to climb.

God names the people He personally defends. Not one of them has any power.

Buried in a law code about oxen and property lines, God stops and gets specific: the stranger, the widow, the orphan, the poor man with one thin blanket against the cold. And He doubles the Hebrew verb twice in a single sentence, the way Hebrew does when it wants to shut the door on any argument. If they cry out, I will surely hear it.

Why Do I Feel So Far From God?

Mercy With a Clock On It

There's a difference between a deadline you find out about after it's passed, and one somebody hands you in advance, on purpose, because they want you ready.

God could've just sent the final plague on Egypt with no warning at all. He already knew Pharaoh wasn't going to yield. He announced it anyway. Out loud. In advance. Midnight, He said. This is exactly what's coming, and exactly when.
