The fundamentals and the little things cost the Phillies in the 2025 NLDS against Shohei Ohtani and the Dodgers. It cost them again on Tuesday night in a 6-5 loss to the Astros.

We dig into the Phillies’ latest base running blunders late in Tuesday's game, including Brandon Marsh getting double up at second base and Edmundo Sosa not hustling down the first-base line on a fly ball to deep right-center field in the ninth.

We also talk about Andrew Painter’s start, Cristopher Sánchez start on Wednesday and how the Phillies might line up the ro...

The NL East is slipping away from the Phillies
The NL East is slipping away from the Phillies episode artwork
Last Monday at 12:15 PM

The Phillies had high hopes to beat up the Braves this weekend and make a move in the NL East. Instead, it looks like the Phillies will have to settle on the NL Wild Card.

The Phils lost two of their first three in a four-game series against the Braves at Citizens Bank Park, with the series finale on Monday afternoon. But a five-game deficit with 19 games to play is going to be difficult to overcome. Why? Well, if the Braves go just 9-10 the rest of the way, the Phillies would need to go 15-4 to w...

What we want to see from the Phillies in September
What we want to see from the Phillies in September episode artwork
09/02/2026

The Phillies have won six in a row and 13 of 15 following Tuesday’s victory in August. They are baseball’s hottest team, moving ahead of the Cubs for the No. 1 NL Wild Card and three behind the Braves in the NL East.

It’s great, but it’s what happens in October that matters most.

What do we want to see from these Phillies in the final month of the season
besides wins, of course? Trea Turner getting on track? Alex McFarlane earning more of Don Mattingly’s trust? Zack Wheeler’s improvement? Andrew Painter building on wh...

08/31/2026

The Phillies swept the Angels in Anaheim on Sunday, following a huge grand slam with two outs in the ninth inning on Friday and another comeback victory on Saturday.

They got a promising start from Zack Wheeler on Sunday. Is he back? “I’m still not out of it,” Wheeler said. But he certainly pitched better than he had lately. He helped the Phillies improve to 20-7 in August, which is the best record in baseball. They are third in baseball in runs this month. They are first in batting average. They are third in OPS. They are th...

Where would the Phillies be without JesĂșs Luzardo, Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper. Each had big games on Wednesday in Seattle, helping the Phillies avoid a sweep. Luzardo’s starts have become Win Day for the Phillies, and Schwarber’s 40th homer has him pushing for the Hall of Fame.

But what’s up with Trea Turner? Time to sit him? Time to drop him in the lineup?

We talk about Andrew Painter’s chances to start a postseason game and more.

Phillies ace Zack Wheeler's struggles continue. How concerned are you? episode artwork
08/26/2026

The Phillies flew to Seattle on Sunday on the highest of highs, riding a nine-game winning streak into a nine-game West Coast road trip.

But then Zack Wheeler got shelled on Monday, allowing four home runs and eight runs in just four innings. He has an 8.51 ERA in his last six starts. Then the offense collected just two hits after the second inning in Tuesday’s loss. Suddenly, the Braves have a 4 œ game lead in the NL East again. Suddenly, the Diamondbacks are only three behind the Phillies for the third NL Wild Card spot.

Don’t count out these Phillies. Kyle Schwarber hit a dramatic, no-doubt-about-it, walk-off home run in the ninth inning in Sunday’s 6-4 victory over the Cardinals at Citizens Bank Park. The Phillies have won in nine in a row!

Big at-bats from Bryce Harper, J.T. Realmuto, Justin Crawford, Edmundo Sosa and Bryan De La Cruz in the ninth inning led to Schwarber’s historic moment. We talk about the Phillies' historic comeback, Andrew Painter's resurgence, the Phillies' offense in August and more.

Is Aaron Nola back? If so, it’s great news for the Phillies. At the very least, Nola’s resurgence is coming at the right time with Phillies co-aces Zack Wheeler and Cristopher Sánchez not pitching to their typical standards.

We then answer your questions, everything from this team’s ability to win the World Series to swinging at first pitches to Alec Bohm’s and Luis Arraez’s futures with the Phillies to JesĂșs Luzardo starting Game 1 of a postseason series.

And you can bet we have a few questions about Jim’s garden, too...

Alec Bohm and Bryson Stott continue to come up big for the Phillies, who have won five consecutive games to move into second place in the NL Wild Card race. It’s fun to watch guys get hits and run the bases, isn’t it? But can the Phillies keep it up?

Who are these Phillies? Alec Bohm and the offense heats up episode artwork
08/17/2026

Phillies first baseman Alec Bohm has been crushed by Phillies fans for weeks.

Some wanted him off the team. But Bohm has been one of the Phillies best hitters since the All-Star break, and even one of the best hitters in baseball. Meanwhile, the Phillies’ offense has the best on-base percentage in baseball in August. Do you believe in Bohm’s resurgence? Do you believe in the Phillies offense?

We discuss those hot-button issues, plus USA Today reported this weekend that Dave Dombrowski is expected to hire Alex Cora as the next Phillies manager, unless Don M...

The Field of Dreams game lived up to the hype on Thursday night in Iowa.

08/12/2026

The Phillies grounded into four double plays on Tuesday night. They lost to the Cardinals, 2-0.

It’s the 27th time this season they’ve been held to one run or shut out. Only the A’s have done that more. But Tuesday’s loss also dropped the Phillies into a three-way tie with the Diamondbacks and Padres for the final two NL Wild Card spots.

Luis Arraez is hitless in his last 16 at-bats. Bryce Harper has a sore left knee. The Phillies’ bullpen is running on fumes. Cristopher Sánchez ran out of gas. But other t...

Signs of Trouble: Phillies bullpen problems continue episode artwork
08/10/2026

Chase Utley made the Phillies’ Wall of Fame this weekend, but he couldn’t have been happy to see the way his former team played.

Sloppy all around, and only a Derek Hill walk-off single in the 12th inning on Sunday prevented a sweep. There are plenty of things to be concerned about going into the final few weeks of the regular season, but perhaps the biggest one is the bullpen. Orion Kerkering and José Alvarado continue to struggle, new righty Caleb Kilian is hurt and the bridge to Jhoan Duran remains as rickety as ever.

Title: It’s Trade Deadline Day for the Phillies

Finally, Major League Baseball’s trade deadline is here.

It’s 6 p.m. ET on Monday, and we expect the Phillies to be busy. But what will they get? A reliever? A bat? Both? Are the Phillies no longer looking for a starter following Andrew Painter’s encouraging start on Friday? It could allow them to make better moves elsewhere, but it would leave them exposed should another starter go down.

The Phillies are 3-8 since the All-Star break, and they have scored zero or one runs in six of those games.Everybody sees what’s going on. Everybody knows what the Phillies need. Bryce Harper spoke candidly about it following Tuesday night’s 1-0 loss to the Marlins in Miami.

“I think we need some help,” Harper said. “But you know, I think we've proved pretty much all year we've done a pretty good job. But anytime you can get some help in here and reinforcements, I think it helps.”

07/27/2026

The Phillies’ window to win the World Series with this core is closing, so they need to do what they can before the Aug. 3 trade deadline. They need to make trades.

Baseball America wrote something recently that backed up Ruben’s take last week that the Phillies need to be bold
prospects almost never come back to haunt the teams that traded them. So the Phillies need to be aggressive, make trades and do what they can to give themselves the best chance to win.

We also discuss the Phillies’ 3-6 homestand, and the upcoming series i...

07/24/2026

The Aug. 3 trade deadline is less than two weeks away, and the Phillies still need a bat, a reliever and a starter.

What do they need the most?

Honestly, you could make a strong argument for any one of the three. The Phillies have the lowest on-base percentage in Major League Baseball, so they need somebody who can get on base. The No. 5 starter’s spot has been a black hole since the beginning of the season, which is costing them wins and wearing out the bullpen. And with Brad Keller out for the season an...

07/22/2026

What in the world happened to the Phillies on Tuesday night at Citizens Bank Park?

The Phillies made a couple base running blunders in the ninth inning in a 2-1 loss. Was the contact play on? Don Mattingly said Justin Crawford was supposed to run on any ball hit. Crawford said he wasn’t. But then J.T. Realmuto exercised a lapse in judgment and inexplicably got thrown out at second to end the game.

Two innings into Sunday’s series finale against the Mets, you just knew the Phillies had lost.

But then that’s how it’s been for the Phillies’ No. 5 starter this year. The Phillies are 5-20 in games started by anybody NOT named Cristopher SĂĄnchez, Zack Wheeler, JesĂșs Luzardo and Aaron Nola this season. Those pitchers have a combined 7.33 ERA.

The Phillies’ No. 5 starter spot hasn’t won a game since May 18!
