Natural Six

The buzzing of bees and a new day creeps into view. What better way is there to begin a new journey, with a rested body and hope on the horizon.

Each step taken in this new direction is a step further away from what came before. Will you greet the unknown as a friend should, or remain way of blades in the dark. The night is pitch black and every light casts a shadow.

There are many who would travel the same roads as us. Friend or foe, all must traverse the road...

Alex fails his dexterity saving throw and the everyone immediately starts making penis jokes. This is starting to become a bit too normal around here. This action surge unpacks a lot of the, rather ridiculous behaviour, that the party engaged in whilst letting their hair down and getting their feet wet.

Having reached the end of an arc, there’s a lot of reflecting and considerations for what comes next.

Gnomes anyone? Harry digs into some of his thoughts and processes for introducing a gnome city into the narrative. And what about all th...

With the dust beginning the settle and a new dawn on the horizon, the scales begin to tip in a new direction. Blood is thicker than water but what of gold?

Time will tell. A thick canopy of bark and branch might obscure the way for some.

For others it creates a path clearer than any road. Perhaps we all end up exactly where we’re mean to be. And what of rest? When waters boil and steam rises, do you let yourself soak in the stillness or prepare yourself for what awaits in...

The sound of glass shatters a long held silence. Could the glass be protecting us from threats outside or will shattering the glass reveal new secrets?

Shining a light on the dark will reveal the unknown, but what new shadows will rise to take it’s place? You should take care, not to loose your footing, lest you slip and fall into the unknown.

In all this chaos and noise, take a moment to find the answers you seek. Even something as simple as ones own name may hold more questions than answers.

To achieve our dreams and indulge in our fantasies, there must always be a sacrifice. Sometimes the sacrifice is small and easily made. Other times it requires a heavy toll and blood must be spilled.

Is death enough to atone for ones crimes? What of those who come after. The ones who are forced to clean up your mess and pick up the pieces. What will it take to wash the blood from their hands.

And now footsteps weigh heavy on a dying land. Each step like walking on fragile glass. One mistake...

After two sessions of non stop combat, it’s time to take a breather and unpack everything that’s happened.

Harry, Ben and Alex dig into the emotional and mechanical depths of combat...by comparing it to football. Obviously.

Harry unleashes a 60ft cone of combat mechanics upon the party, discussing breath weapons, spell slots, DOMF, and vials of super secret wasp juice. This combat had it all, baby.

Even when Harry dashes off, everyone somehow stays on task and keeps talking about the battle. It’s almost scary how little nonsense and mi...

A well placed arrow can slip through even the toughest of defenses. Such a wound can prove fatal for even the mightiest of warriors.

Amongst unfamiliar shapes and hostile threads what choice does one have but to hold onto those that matter most to them? However, squeeze too hard and you'll cause more harm than none. Those who once held all the cards, may find themselves holding none.

Our origins and our journeys are inexplicably bonded with those we might call family. When the journey has been long and the path has been...

There are times when doing the right thing can leave you on the wrong side of the odds.

One absence can outweigh even the best intentions, and even the most careful choices can leave you feeling the least prepared. When protecting one thing means leaving another exposed, the sting of your decision can be measured by what it costs.

Traps are no less dangerous simply because they’re expected, and when cruelty is patient enough to work stitch by stitch, the thread you’ve been following may be the very thing holding the horr...

Go get ’em!

The gloves are off in this episode of Action Surge as Harry, and eventually Aoife, leave the rest of the team unsupervised for the most conspiracy fueled Action Surge to date.

With Ben at the helm, the remaining cast dig into their theories and, instead of connecting the dots, they reach for the red string, trying to piece together not just the bigger picture, but everything in between.

From potential inter-party conspiracies to how you tame a dragon, even the Natural Six community is drafted in to help unravel wh...

When something is taken, the distance between sense and desperation quickly disappears. Yet some dangers will always be worth running towards, even if every step carries you further from the ground you thought you knew.

As the world begins to offer answers, each one leaves questions stranger than the last. But when enough loose thread leads in the same direction, coincidence can start to feel like the least believable explanation.

Still, there are only so many miles the body can give before exhaustion begins to pull at everything else, making it impossible to...

Well...we've had to turn to drinking. Or, in Ben's case, a full sugar Red Bull and two paracetamol.

We kick things off by talking about the combat, and why both Ben and Raidion were convinced we'd finally found the dragons we'd been searching for. They hadn't, obviously, but in Ben's defence, we were told the White Stag would lead us to dragons...and there they were!

Then we get on to that moment. It was a reunion none of us were expecting, and even Doug wasn't entirely sure what he was seeing...

Help is always harder to ask for when it bears its teeth.

Some things are easier to believe in from a distance, but when the world has little interest in offering answers gently, what should have been hope in the sky becomes a fight to survive beneath it.

Sometimes the impossible arrives just in time, and when the past is no longer something remembered, but something standing right in front of you, it’s one thing to find that it’s survived without you, and another to discover it’s been carrying on in ways you nev...

Was that the shortest episode yet? Maybe, but we’ve still got plenty to talk about.

Was this some of the darkest imagery yet? Yes, probably. But it was also the perfect place to end the episode. Harry gives us some insight into how he wrote and assigned these little vignettes, and how exposing it can be to share something like this at the table. It’s been a while since Harry has given this much story time, and he kept the Spoiler Chat channel in our Discord server working overtime.

We talk abou...

Some things are easier to understand when carried side by side. An arm can be offered, a path can be shared, and an understanding that bonds don’t always need to be explained to be felt.

The forest has its own ways of understanding too, and sometimes the greatest gift is simply being taught how to hear it when it answers. While some words can be carried through roots, others are left nestled among its branches, because the trees have always known that what grows apart doesn't have to grow alone.

See it through, you coward.

First of all, we have to give Doug his flowers. Not just for this episode, but for this whole arc so far. He has done an incredible job, and once we finish talking about Ben's ridiculous spending habits, we finally get the chance to do just that. We explore the pain Kelnys experienced, the anger that came with it, and how grief manifests in different people. We might expect that rage from Raidion, even from Elowen, but the idea of Kelnys losing his cool? That's unnerving. It's also incredibly real.

Some fires consume, while others transform, but the difference may not be found in the flame, but in what you’re willing to place within it.

Time has a way of changing people, even if old grievances insist otherwise. Years may dull the edge, but they may not erase the wound that sharpened it, and some flames can still burn inward long after the first spark.

Sometimes healing begins when the hurt is forgotten, but other times it begins when both sides are finally willing to set it down. Old names, fears, guilt, an...

A party of wizards, what could possibly go wrong? In hindsight... quite a lot, actually. BUT, in this episode of Action Surge we break down what went right, including meeting possibly some of the most memorable NPCs we've ever had - Hamrog, we hardly knew ye. The party discuss the exciting dynamic changes of everyone playing the same class, and what it's like stepping into the shoes of another character for a one-shot.

Also, Ben tries to talk about his Big Wand.

A lot.

And of course, we had the best...

This week saw the long-awaited return of some minis, and more gorgeous character-driven story moments for Kel. The group break all of that down, but also explore what it feels like for both DM and player when a particularly nasty status effect just won't let a PC do anything during combat. Also, how meta should players get when approaching battle strategy?

We also chat about Raidion's solo moment, and how much agency players can have in one-on-one scenarios. It's good stuff!

Not every path leads ahead. Some lead to what was left behind, unfinished, to choices made before you knew what they would cost.

When the past takes shape, it can do more than strike. It can catch in your throat, lock you in place, and turn memories into a battlefield all of their own. Echoes of the past can hurt as much as the future in front of you, but not every battle belongs to the blade, because being a hero can be measured by more than the mark you leave behind.

Waking with no memory of how they got there, or where they are meant to be, our adventurers find themselves thrown together and guided by mysterious forces towards the Witchspire in search of answers. But this adventure is more than just friends, familiars and froblins. Strange powers are stirring, danger waits in the dark, and the path ahead may reveal far more than they are ready to know. Maybe it’s time to take to the skies?

Join Natural Six for a bespoke D&D 5.5 one-shot adventure as we explore the lore, world, enemies, mysteries and mo...

As the forest continues to shift and breathe, not every path leads forward. As old wounds are brought back into the light, some memories still burn, and some remind you that even in ruin not everything might be lost to the flames.

While the forest lingers on what was, not everyone has the patience to indulge it. When there are answers waiting beyond the trees, frustration is never far behind, but anger has a way of demanding the shortest path, and not every lesson worth learning arrives quickly. Sometimes the hardest thing to understand is not...

Big Brent energy.

Well, he's done it again. He may forget the basic rules sometimes , but by god can he make us cry. Learn the origin's of Kel's flute, the thinking behind the visions everyone had (and didn't have), and the power of speaking to characters beyond the mortal realm.

Also shout-out to Alex for his commitment to the bit during the episode, but the tux had to come off, it's hot in that room.

Things can surface whether you’re ready for them or not, a past drifting up, a present holding steady, or a future that leaves you with more questions than answers. Reflections don’t always clarify so much as they reveal, and not everyone is ready to accept what waits beneath the surface.

Impatience has a way of being louder than wisdom, but magic has little interest in being shouted into submission. The water may wish to keep its counsel, and the forest has never been impressed by volume.

There are other ways to be h...

Kel with HIS spoons. This episode of Action Surge is a little different, but before you find out why, please enjoy a very long-winded explanation about why Ben got pizza sauce on his top.

Turns out we got REALLY unlucky (or very lucky, if you love narratively satisfying storytelling) in our d4 rolls for the trial. But that's pretty par for the course by now really. Find out which dark and twisted tomes Harry pulled our horrific opponents from, how difficult this group (still) is to balance, and how the party feel about THAT near death...

Some moments don’t wait for speeches or second thoughts, because in the space between one breath and the next, perfection can become perilous when the gauntlet begins. Sharpen your senses, steady your nerves, and take the initiative to jump into the fray, because while beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, it’s best not to look it directly in the eye.

Confidence might be slowly peeled away and fear might be getting under your skin, but all you need to survive is remember just how impressive you are. After all, humility may be o...

This episode was a nice reminder that you never quite know what you are going to get. We mean, who knew that trees would love a bit of gossip?

It’s wild to think that everything with the now aptly named Sword of the Flood, a cursed item that is a shock to absolutely nobody, started all the way back in episode 37. It really shows just how much has happened, and how far we have come (ugh) as a group.

Those dreams? Isolation might have been the theme, but Elowen ha...

When who you are and who you might become begin to blur, it’s no longer about the enemy you’re facing, but the truth you’ve been avoiding.

A promise of power doesn’t mean it belongs in your hands. Strength can be taken, it can be wielded, but it’s not the only way to endure. Sometimes the fight is not against the unknown, but against something that understands you all too well. And when nightmares stop being warnings and start becoming challenges, the only way forward is to meet them face to face, even when i...

The action is surging. It's very surgy.

Out of a possible 600, we got 542, which, considering the investment we have made into this city, does feel pretty fair, even if we did have to end this episode on a slightly more serious note. And no, we are not talking about a pickled egg pocket.

Harry walks us through the mechanics of the city and what helped us land such a strong result in the mustering. We're thrilled to learn there was always a chance at a participation medal, but thanks to our hard work...

As the echoes of celebration fade, what remains are the conversations that linger long after the music has stopped. In the quiet aftermath of joy, truths surface more easily, fears are shared more freely, and the weight of what comes next can no longer be ignored. When the night ends, leadership is no longer a title to avoid, but a role that must be claimed.

Yet even as resolve hardens, doubt finds its way in. Nightmares linger, questions sharpen, and trust begins to strain under the weight of secrets left unspoken. Knowledge calls to those willing...

We’re high on life, we’re high on ourselves, and Ben Starr is all shirt.

We’ve made it to Episode 50, so naturally the conversation turns to rolling for ejaculation. Harry did warn us that if you play stupid games, you win stupid prizes. Unfortunately for him, he underestimated just how stupid the games we’re willing to play actually are, and now he’s somehow having to shoehorn that energy into what is supposed to be a rich and complex fantasy world.

We also discuss our homework. Harry set us a simple and...

Sometimes, amid the pain and the long road behind you, moments of joy find their way through. Milestones worth celebrating, not because they have been easy, but because of everything it took to reach them. A chance to breathe, to relax, and to remember why you keep going at all. After all, when you’re feeling a little stiff, a moment of relaxation can ease tension you didn’t even know you had.

And while choices are cut and confidence measured, every stitch says something about who you are and what you are willing to show. Some...

Alex is a slow burn hottie and we cannot lie, which is wild, given that none of this is real.

We start by doing Aoife’s favourite thing, praising her. She did an incredible job with the story and we absolutely need to celebrate that, even if she refuses to let us. Harry then reveals the true purpose of Talisca, and how the mechanics of the city were all designed around us, finally accepting that we might actually be heroes. Even if we did experience it all wildly out of order. Sorry, Harry. He also shares wh...

There are stories that live in the moonlight, and carried by voices willing to give them breath. Tales passed down, reshaped, and shared again, woven with hope, wonder, and the reminder that beauty is worth protecting. In the glow of lanterns, a single story rises above the quiet, gathering hearts together in a moment almost bright enough to chase the shadows away.

But even the most hopeful tale must make room for truth, and some truths arrive with weight. In the wake of stolen joy, choices must be made, and consequences must be faced. The path...

Want to know how the sausage was made? Well, in this week’s episode of Action Surge, we reveal far too much. Including how Doug removed and ate the filling from a sausage roll, then folded the pastry back together and put it back in the bag. Frankly, abhorrent.

Once we have accepted that Doug might be a killer, it is back to D&D. We talk about those little shards of broken gem, and how utterly shocked Harry was when we casually ignored every piece of breadcrumbing he tried to lay down. We reflect on ho...

There are times when victory tastes sweet, when flowers bloom, and cheers swell, and the world feels ready to celebrate. But even triumph can feel heavy when the noise grows too loud and when the eyes that follow expect too much. Sometimes the only way to breathe is to slip away and wander the quieter corners of a city that no longer remembers how to shine.

For in the places where stories were once told freely, silence has begun to settle. Words falter, inspiration dries, and even the brightest spirits dim beneath an unseen weight. Joy...

Aoife went out for milk. We are sure she will come back for us eventually, but while we wait for her return and her love, let’s talk about everything that happened in episode 47, and a whole bunch of other stuff, too.

This episode really was all about the race, and we absolutely have to give Harry his flowers for everything he put together and how perfectly it came together in the end. A special mention also goes to Harry’s wife for the beautiful arts and crafts diorama that brought the whole thing to life.
