According to Cole, Mohammed bin Zayed and Mohammed bin Salman placed roughly $2 billion in accounts tied to Kushner, including $750 million in an account owned by an Emirati charity and about $1 billion parked at Israel's central bank at Benjamin Netanyahu's urging. Cole reports none of it was disclosed, raising bribery and foreign agent questions.

The last eleven years have felt like an abusive relationship, built on chaos designed to keep everyone dysregulated and exhausted. There has to be a reckoning, not only for Trump and his administration, but for the billionaires, media companies, law firms, and universities that capitulated. Costco, which kept its DEI program, is the rare exception.

Trump's bargain with his voters is broken. The Iran war and tariffs have hit their gas tanks and grocery bills, his approval sits near record lows, and voters see a family cashing in. This isn't a blue wave. It's a red voter...

That's the real threat. A handful of DSA-backed members could decide whether Hakeem Jeffries becomes speaker, and Chuck Schumer's path to majority leader looks shakier by the day. The establishment kept its distance from Mamdani, Kirsten Gillibrand had to apologize for falsely tying him to global jihad, and the DSCC has been slow to back Nixon, who is running even with Ashley Moody.

You can disagree with Sarah Longwell, Tim Miller, and the rest of the Bulwark about plenty, but you will never hear them say they'd rather Republicans keep the House.

The Brennan Center's Derek Tisler says emergency powers aren't a blank check and that martial law wouldn't let Trump seize election materials. Hawk respects the Brennan Center but keeps asking the question nobody answers: who is going to stop him?

Donald Trump won't rule out a national emergency or the Insurrection Act around the midterms. The Supreme Court gave him broad immunity for official acts. The executive branch, which enforces court orders, answers to him. And this is the same man who tried to overturn 2020 and pressured state officials to change the results.

The footage Jacob Soboroff aired shows plainclothes agents in masks and construction vests, no visible badges, rifles drawn, banging on a driver's window. Firearms safety starts with knowing what is behind your target. A car has a license plate. Arrest him later.

Hawk, a gun owner, asks the question the Second Amendment crowd won't: what does the right to self-defense mean when armed, masked men with no sign of law enforcement approach your car? And why has the tyrannical-government crowd gone silent now that the force is aimed at Black and brown people?

The pattern is familiar: ICE agents firing into cars, from Renee Good in Minneapolis to recent shootings in Houston and Austin, where a food delivery driver was shot. Most major police departments bar officers from shooting into moving vehicles except in narrow circumstances. With firearms the leading cause of death for American children, what if that boy had been hit?

To Hawk, the surges in New York City and California weeks before the midterms are intentional: violence and protest as a pretext for a national emergency or the Insurrection Act.

But Trump's protection has limits...

Hawk condemns Hamas and the October 7 attack without reservation, and argues that more than one thing can be true at the same time. In his view, every fact in Mamdani's statement holds up.

Democrat Jared Moskowitz called it atrocious. The problem, as Smith calmly explained and Senator Amy Klobuchar later confirmed, is that Smith was not at a Hawks game in Atlanta at all. He was at a University of Maryland game against the Iowa Hawkeyes to watch Caitlin Clark. Schmitt had confused the Hawks with the Hawkeyes, and his staff's supposed smoking-gun texts did not even mention Atlanta or come from Smith.

He points to the Supreme Court's shadow-docket order and Brett Kavanaugh's lengthy concurrence, now referred to as authorizing Kavanaugh stops, which he says effectively carved out an exception to Fourth Amendment search-and-seizure and 14th Amendment equal-protection guarantees for tens of millions of Hispanic and Latino people, most of them US citizens.

Hawk argues that Chief Justice John Roberts and the conservative majority have become partisan actors, citing the 5-to-4 birthright-citizenship vote and the gutting of the Voting Rights Act, and makes...

Reacting alongside commentary from The Bulwark, Hawk's point is less about the claim itself than the silence around it: a sitting president publicly alleged that his predecessor used the federal government to try to have him killed, and Hawk says he could find only a single news article covering it.

His larger point is that the Dunning Kruger effect is not a partisan trait. Hawk argues it shows up just as often on the left as on the right, and he pushes back on the idea that acknowledging hard truths and respecting expertise are somehow in conflict.

He says the expanded public conversation about postpartum depression and postpartum psychosis is genuinely valuable, while also insisting the three children who died deserve to be remembered. Drawing a line back to 2020 and the stretch between election night and January 6th, Hawk argues the difference now is planning. Two genuinely ridiculous things crossed Hawk's desk today, and they rhyme.

First, The Atlantic reports that with his approval parked in the low thirties, the president sat his advisors down to figure out how to spend a roughly $400 million super PAC war chest, and the master plan they landed on is more of himself. The diagnosis from his own team is that voters just haven't been properly introduced to his accomplishments yet, which is a bold thing to say about the most photographed man alive. The cure is ads. About him. Problem solved.

Then there's...

The center of it is expert testimony. When a defendant's mental state is the whole question, both sides bring in psychologists, and everything those witnesses say is opinion, not fact. Hawk walks through what it takes to qualify an expert, why the phrase to a reasonable degree of psychological certainty matters, and why cross examination is where these witnesses are really tested. One clip shows a prosecution expert asked repeatedly what he was paid, and struggling to give a number, which is a moment juries tend to remember.

His argument is simple and hard to answer. If ICE and Border Patrol were detaining dozens of violent criminals, carjackers, traffickers, members of Tren de Aragua, this administration would put them in front of cameras every single day. It has not done that once. What the cameras show instead are car accident victims, longtime residents, and families.

One case Hawk returns to: a sailor serving aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln whose father, here 30 years with a Social Security card, a license, and no criminal record, was detained while his son was deployed.

The reasoning is the interesting part. Rogers's team reportedly believes AIPAC spending would backfire and help El-Sayed, which is roughly what happened in the primary, where heavy spending on Haley Stevens preceded her loss.

Trump has since announced that on January 1st, 2027, tariffs on Canadian cars, trucks, auto parts, and steel go to 50 percent. Carney says Canada will match them dollar for dollar.

CNN's Daniel Dale ran the fact check. Canadian unemployment is 6.4 percent and has been falling for three months, not 10 and rising. Canada does 72 percent of its trade with the US, not 95. And the trade deficit runs on crude oil imports, with roughly 97 percent of American agricultural exports entering Canada tariff free.

Hawk reads the order rather than the coverage, and the distinction matters. The Court did not decide whether any of this is lawful. It held that the states lack standing because the order has not been implemented, that a president may direct agencies within his own branch, and that setting prosecutorial priorities falls under Article II. The majority says explicitly that implementation may still prove unlawful.

The part Hawk keeps coming back to is why the temperature is rising now. The Save Act has not moved through the Senate. The Supreme Court has not ruled on the executive order aimed at mail voting. The effort to obtain state voter rolls has lost in court repeatedly. The midterms are coming and the numbers are not close. The Iran war has no exit. Canada walked away from a trade deal.

That is a lot of corners at once, and Hawk expects the reaction...

Hawk's objection is structural. Kushner holds no government position, which is what keeps him outside security clearance and financial disclosure requirements, and he is simultaneously serving as envoy on Gaza, Iran, and Ukraine while raising money for his own fund from the governments he is negotiating with.

The arithmetic is the part worth watching. Steven Rattner's chart work shows the fund is almost entirely foreign capital, including two billion from Saudi Arabia over the objection of the royal family's own advisers. Hawk walks through Adam Serwer's Atlantic piece, The See No Evil Supreme Court, and the framework Serwer names the neo Korematsu doctrine: if any non racial explanation for a policy can be constructed, however hypothetical, the racial animus behind it stops mattering legally. Serwer traces it from Trump v. Hawaii through Louisiana v. Callais and the TPS ruling, and contrasts it with Masterpiece Cakeshop, where hostile statements by officials counted for everything.

The testimony in that case has covered her marriage, her care, and what she was experiencing before the killings, including perinatal and postpartum mental illness. A lot of women recognized pieces of their own experience in it and said so publicly.

Hawk's point is the distinction being deliberately collapsed. Empathy for what someone went through is not approval of what they did, and he has not seen a single person express the latter. He draws on his own experience of posting about hard things and reading the responses, where the value is finding out you are not...

The letters themselves are extraordinary. Pride and Prejudice references, apologies for losing focus, a line about him being her guardian and protector. Alongside them is the earlier reporting that Harp spent her first year in the White House without a security clearance while sitting beside the president for twelve or more hours a day, with world leaders routing messages through her.

Melania Trump made a public appearance the same day, her first in some time. Hawk does not think that is a coincidence.

The quotes from Republican officials are the ones that land. One said they are not devious enough to anticipate what is coming. Another warned about what replaces the ballot when confidence in it collapses.

His argument stays the same. Almost everything that led to January 6th happened after election day, and the officials who refused then are gone.

Hawk's interest is procedural. Two actions like that mean two warrants, which means agents went to a federal judge with an affidavit and established probable cause, both that crimes likely occurred and that evidence of them would likely be found in those specific places. That is a meaningful threshold, and it is not a finding of guilt.

The open question is jurisdiction. Sexual assault is generally prosecuted by states. Federal involvement usually points to something crossing state lines, and the reporting so far does not explain which theory applies here.
