On Monday, October 21, 1861, a battle between Union and Confederate forces took place in northern Laurel County, Kentucky.

Known today as the Battle of Camp Wildcat, it was originally known as the action at Rockcastle Hills or Wildcat Mountain.

This episode covers details of the Battle of Camp Wildcat and includes the events leading up to the battle as well as the days following.

About 7,500 Union soldiers and 5,400 Confederate soldiers were engaged in the Battle of Camp Wildcat.

Episode 41 - The First Flight at the London-Corbin Airport

At 10:34 a.m. on October 1, 1953, the first commercial flight landed at the London-Corbin Airport in London, Laurel County, Kentucky. 

Ted Arnold, Piedmont Agent and station manager for the airport entered the flight into the log book.

The first flight set down 45 minutes behind schedule due to heavy ground fog which caused a one-hour delay of the take-off at Wilmington, North Carolina, the flight’s origin point.

In this episode I relate two incidents that took place on October 3, two years apart, nearly two and a half centuries ago.

Both of these events were "defeats."

As you probably know from some of my earlier episodes, "defeat" was an 18th century term for what we refer to today as a "massacre." I won't go into the details about the difference here, since I've already done that in previous episodes.
