500 Pieces o' 8 Please!

Gold Fever
Episode Notes
Time has passed and all our friends are having a ...time. Flint is murder hungry. Jack is tired of wealth. Charles is aggressively against slavery but in a way that's all about him. Plus there's this new guy who's like...a teacher? Or something? idk. probably not important to the story or the history of piracy or anything.

Treasure Island (1990)
Episode Notes
Andi brings Ronnie the pirate context they so dearly need, with the help of a star-studded cast. They watch the 1990 film adaptation of Treasure Island with Christian Bale, Charlton Heston, and Christopher Lee. It's very true to the book and a little boring, but theres definitely Long John Silver! So that's something!

RIP to the Last Good Ally
Episode Notes
We recorded this one on election night. Oops. To skip election conversation, skip ahead to 8:05.
This episode of Black Sails is high on excitement, high on trauma, and very low on reasons we should be trusting allies. The clock is running out on the lives of some favorite characters, and others are given big moments to make a heroic turn. We talk allyship, the nuances of 'fridging', and acceptable forms of violence.

Is it a set up episode? Kind of. But this episode is still no filler, all killer! Literally! Flint kills a guy! And it's the best! Weird how this show has made me love violence so much! Not going to confront that any further....Anywho!

Anywho, Andi and Ronnie discuss Chapter 10 of Black Sails. The formation of the Ranger Polycule, James McGraw keying in on his inner Flint, and of course, the infamous Ned Low.

The Metaphor Goes Hard
Episode Notes
Flint is gay, and it is very important you know that before this episode because the "pirate" metaphor makes us get pretty deep. Before that we talk about Larp and stuff but just be prepared for some big feelings and self reflection brought about because Miranda sent one simple letter. Its almost as big a deal for us as it is for Billy Bones (RIP[maybe])

Careen Calamity
Episode Notes
We discuss Chapter 4 of Black Sails, which Andy describes as a transitional episode into the brand new show it will become in Chapter 5. John Silver gives everyone diarrhea, Flint doesn't listen to the ship's most respected nerd, and the boston boy sails off with our guns! I hate it when that happens!
