A Flood Watch is in effect for New York City and much of the Tri-State area as powerful storms are poised to hit the region on Tuesday with significant rainfall and the potential for flash flooding.

The Flood Watch will take effect Tuesday at 8 a.m. and will continue through Wednesday morning. The coverage area includes the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island.

Outside of New York City, Nassau County, Westchester County, Orange County, Putnam County, Rockland County are under the watch.

We may see a repeat of what we experienced late Saturday morning and afternoon, when slow-moving thunderstorms moved over the same places over and over again, something meteorologists call "training." The danger here would be another round of flash flooding. Downpours could begin in the morning through early afternoon, with these early rounds of thunderstorms most likely to bring flooding to the Hudson Valley, northern New Jersey and Connecticut.
