50-year-old Christa Pike is in the hospital this morning after two lethal doses were given to the death row inmate last night. The Supreme Court overturned a federal court’s stay of execution, allowing for the execution to take place. After second attempt at administering the pentobarbital, Pike was heard snoring by witnesses. The governor of Tennessee  has ordered an investigation into what happened and a temporary halt to scheduled executions. Pike was sentenced to death after being convicted of the 1995 torture and murder of 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer.

71-year-old Douglas Carter walked out of prison this week after spending 40 years on death row for a 1985 murder he says he never committed. Carter was finally freed after DNA from the crime scene excluded him as a suspect. Carter was finally granted a new trial last year after the Utah Supreme Court ruled the two witnesses who testified against him recanted their stories, revealing that police and a prosecutor gave them cash and gifts to point the finger at Carter. Prosecutors agreed with the judge to release Carter, despite objections from the victims’ family.

NBC news has sourced a remarkable story describing what life is like for the billionaire music mogul behind bars. Multiple inmates have described a life Sean “Diddy” Combs has curated in prison, spending thousands of dollars a month for men to make his bed, cook his food, clean his clothes and give him massages. In a shocking development, a federal appeals court has stepped in and stopped the execution of 50 year old Christa Pike.  Pike would’ve been the first woman in more than 200 years executed by the state of Tennessee, and she had already lost her appeal to the Supreme Court.  Governor Bill Lee even announced earlier this week that he would not offer Pike clemency.  The federal court wants to review whether Pike’s allegations of childhood sexual abuse and rape were fully considered at her sentencing.  The mother of Pike’s victim, Colleen Slemmer had raised money to travel to Nashville...

It took the jury less than three hours to convict 40-year-old former American Idol Contestant Caleb Flynn for the murder of his wife, Ashley, last February. During closing arguments the prosecution reminded the jury of the overwhelming evidence against Flynn, including his damning text messages about wanting to kill his wife. The defense spent nearly an hour trying to convince the jury there was reasonable doubt because no physical evidence connected Flynn to the murder. A bizarre and disturbing story out of the Bay Area: two, 76-year-old murder suspects are in custody, accused of murdering their son-in-law at a California sports complex and playground. Police say Shouyong Zhang and Shili Chen each shot 40-year-old Jonathan McKinsey multiple times, witnesses directing police to the couple within minutes of the murder. McKinsey was the director of engineering for the games section of The New York Times and was in a contentious and complicated divorce and custody battle that included decades of domestic violence accusations and restraining orders. While no date has been set yet for the retrial of Lindsay Clancy,  the prosecution acknowledged it is moving forward with its case against the mom accused of strangling her three young children to death.  Clancy’s defense attorney surprised the court, making an argument that the case against her should be thrown out because there is no actual evidence she killed her children.  The judge plans to rule on several motions presented by the prosecution, defense, a media organization and the holdout juror in early November.

“Primetime” came in a respectable number 4 over the weekend, and critics are singing its praises, earning an 87% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the journalist the movie portrays, former NBC reporter Chris Hansen, is upset, saying the film is a “complete work of fiction.” Hansen goes on to say the movie is “detached from reality or anything I’ve ever experienced.” Hansen is played by actor Robert Pattinson and depicts his role working on “To Catch a Predator” back in 2006, when a potential target  of the show, a Texas prosecutor died by suicide rather than be confronted by the reality show and police.

The attorney for the lone holdout juror in Lindsay Clancy’s murder trial is defending his client, saying Michael Desronvil had zero doubt about his decision and has “a mountain of evidence” to back up his decision. Edward Paltzik also had a message for Clancy’s attorney,  Kevin Reddington “and to the deranged individuals who think that the murder of three innocent children is okay: You will never break Michael, because Michael is indestructible."  Paltzik is speaking the day before Reddington goes to court to ask for a formal investigation into the holdout juror, calling him an “obstructionist” juror.

The second full week of testimony is underway in the Caleb Flynn murder trial. The former American Idol alum is accused of murdering his wife of 15 years, Ashely Flynn. On Friday, Flynn sobbed once again in court as a detective played both of his interrogation videos, recorded on the day of his wife’s murder. Detectives also testified to what they found in Ashely’s phone, saying there was no evidence Ashley was having an affair like Caleb claimed, but there was evidence she knew of Caleb’s affair, at one point texting him, “you can be honest, was it her?”...

18-year-old Kingston Bradley has been charged with malice murder after neighbors saw him carrying a plastic tub with a dismembered torso inside. Police had just left that same apartment complex after a woman’s family reported her missing, claiming her cell phone’s location was nearby. Investigators then found more body parts in the trunk of Bradley’s vehicle that were later identified as missing 26-year-old Shanteria Mosley.  Bradley’s father is now speaking out, defending himself and pointing to his son’s years long history of mental illness.

There are two new studies out that show younger people aren’t having as much sex and it’s a fairly significant shift from a decade ago. The Institute for Family Studies found that nearly 25 percent of adults ages 18 to 29 haven’t had sex in the past year. A recent Playboy study found the same results, and now experts are looking into why. From burn out from dating apps, to social anxiety stemming from the pandemic, to young adults moving back in with their parents, some experts believe this trend will continue to lower our country’s fertility rates further...

Authorities now believe 29 year old mother of four, Tasia Fortune, was murdered during a drug dispute and then, her body was hanged in a tree in a “staged” scene.  Jackson police say Fortune fought with her attackers before she was killed, and now 45 year old Eric Clark has also been charged with her murder.  25 year old Earnest Lloyd Jr.and 51 year old Jarques Ratliff are also facing capital murder charges for her death.  Fortune’s mother had a remarkable response after an outburst in Friday’s court hearing, saying she doesn’t want anyone who is innocent behind bars.

St. Paul Police Chief Alex Henry has officially filed a lawsuit against 53-year-old Minnesota Mayor Kaohly Her for sexual harassment. Chief Henry had already filed a complaint against the mayor back in the Spring, but has now included new allegations in his formal lawsuit. Mississippi Police have arrested a second man in the death of a black woman found hanging from a tree, and have issued an arrest warrant for a third suspect. Jackson police arrested 25-year-old Earnest Lloyd Jr. in the death of 29-year-old Tasia Fortune, whose body was found hanging behind an abandoned home in the city on Aug. 3rd.
