Barb and Star Go to Vista del Mar
Get out your culottes, ladies, we're going to Florida! Emma & Katie discuss the 2021 friendship-com Barb and Star Go to Vista del Mar, which is basically what would happen if they were to go on vacation together.
It's a real tit flapper, do get ready for lengthy digressions about Teen Witch, Tommy Bahama vs Margaritaville, and multiple pleas to prove that you, the listeners, are real.
Bend It Like Beckham
Ready to bend it like Beckham and absolutely fumble it like Joe? ⚽ This week we're revisiting Bend It Like Beckham, where everyone is in love with the wrong person, everyone's keeping at least one secret, and poor Jess just wants to play soccer without causing an international family incident. Tune in as we debate if this wouldv'e been a better movie if Jess and Jules ended up together, why kissing your friends on the mouth is not casual and how Charlie made sure Emma knew every soccer (.....sorry, football....) mistake.
Jerry Maguire
Emma had a rough time with this one. Maybe it's because she accidentally watched the TV edit. Maybe it's her pathological hatred for the lead actor. Maybe it's just not that great of a movie. Nah, couldn't be that. We show people the money, we complete you, you had us at hello. All of that and more as we follow the asshole who wants to be good, Jerry Maguire.
Office Romance
It's a 2026 Netflix original baby!! Join Emma and Katie as they dive into the (allegedly not thoroughly researched) airplane airline company Air Cruz. It's run by Ms Jersey Girl herself, Jennifer Lopez and is lawyered by the grumpily charming Brett Goldstein. Get ready friends because this cast is STACKED. It should be said there is a small content warning for this episode: the word c$$t is used religiously by our fabulous hostesses (hey, it's not a bad word in England!) So strap into your cruz 1, put those tray tables away and enjoy the flight!
Adventureland
Emma & Katie get real nostalgic in this one, really feeling 22 and the exact kind of pain that comes with making terrible decisions as a young adult. We also talk about The Pitt, 70's and 80's music, the "Anti-Christian Leftist Elite," and more than we wanted to know about Ron Howard's kids.
She's All That
To celebrate America's 250th birthday, why not listen to Emma & Katie recap one of Rom-Com's finest films: She's All That. Be silent, be still, supersize those balls, we're diving into the late '90s classic, where a high school bet, one art-loving outsider, and an alarming amount of choreographed prom drama somehow equals true love. We break down the iconic makeover montage, Freddie Prinze Jr.'s questionable decision-making, Rachael Leigh Cook's undeniable charm, and whether this romance actually holds up decades later.
The Half of It
Emma & Katie go back to high school in this Cyrano riff/platonic comedy, with lots of animal talk at the beginning. We get confused about Catholicism, debate thruples, and spend some time on Wings of Desire and City of Angels.
Yakult!
Fact Check: Cyrano de Bergerac is an 1897 play about a mythologized version of a real person, who lived in the 17th century.
Nice Indian Boy
This week on Go Get Your Girl, we’re cracking open A Nice Indian Boy, a rom-com where falling in love is somehow easier than surviving dinner with the parents. We’re talking awkward flirting, family meddling, and so much wholesome sweetness we'll have a toothache forever. Is it swoony? Yes. Stressful? Also yes. Does Jonathan Groff get wet? Unfortunately, no.
But I'm a Cheerleader
Pride Month continues with this Conversion Camp comedy classic!
First off, there seems to be a problem with Katie's sound in this one, I did what I could to adjust it, but apologies in advance. It should still be listenable, but we'll do out best to prevent that from happening again.
In this episode: we explain Skip-Its to Gen Z, Emma has some ideas for adding communities to the Queer spectrum, a visit to a cow cuddle farm, and we brush on some of the Problems in the World Today.
Red, White and Royal Blue
HAPPY PRIDE MONTH FRIENDS!! Emma & Katie kick things off with the delightful 2023 film Red, White and Royal Blue. Tune in to hear how the Gays save the day, why Alex will have our vote any day and why even SEEING an election night map makes us break out in a cold sweat. Somebody take us to this weird pocket universe where Uma Thurman is a delightful Texan President.
The Best Man
Emma & Katie got back to 1999 to watch Taye Diggs make someone else's wedding all about himself, but he sure looks sexy while doing it. We also talk about cat balls, From (which is apparently a real tv show on a real streaming service called MGM+), Oprah's book club, having sex with twins, cosmos, Lost, and what I learned while editing this is called a sleeve garter.
Are you still doing that podcast?
Yes, still.
The Bee Movie
Yes, friends, you guessed it. It's time for the mother-fucking Bee Movie. Listen as Emma and Katie break down the most unconvential and most BEE-zy movie yet. Why did they cut a fabulous musical number with Matthew Broderick and Jerry Seinfield? How did this idea come about? And WHY oh why are the girlies covering it on the pod? BUZZZZZ in to find out!!
What's Up, Doc?
Emma & Katie watch this 70's throwback to 30's screwball comedies, starring the two hottest people you've ever seen, and discuss Ben McKenzie, a family friendly Twin Peaks, Manic Pixie Nightmare Girls, female Kramers, the Full House theme song, the house from Charmed, and also the excellent movie!
Fact Check: What's Up, Doc was not the first American movie to credit its stunt performers. A few other films did so, not the least of which was It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World in 1963.
The Devil Wears Prada
This week on Go Get Your Girl, we’re strapping on our Chanel boots and entering the emotionally hazardous workplace known as The Devil Wears Prada. We discuss Miranda Priestly’s terrifying and calm aura, Andy’s rapid transformation from “girl who owns one sweater” to Fashion Week cryptid, and why Andy needs a better judge of character when it comes to friends. Also: we all know the real villian of this wasn't Miranda (cough; Nate sucks; cough)
Juno!
Emma & Katie travel back to a more ironic time (2007) to talk about the twee hipster millenial touchstone Juno. There's lots of lorry talk, we get kind of political and discuss the discography of Belle & Sebastian at length. Hope you're into that sort of thing.
George of the Jungle
Ah-ah-ee-ee-oo-oo-oo or Aaaah-aaaaah-aah-aah!! LIStENERS WATCH OUT FOR THAT TREE! This week Emma and Katie discuss the very beloved (and very fun) George of the Jungle. Tune in as they both drool over Brenden Fraiser, compare the film to it's source material and perfect their jungle call. Does the movie hold up? Listen to find out!
Austenland
Emma & Katie get dressed up in the Georgian finest to Larp with Keri Russell in Austenland! Also discussed: the distinctions between members of the Sciruidae family, Magic: The Gathering, how Emma wants a creppy doll room.
Also of note: The LARP group at Katie high school was called Amtguard. The woman who built the incredible miniature rooms in the basement of the Art Institute of Chicago was named Narcissa(1) Niblack Thorne. Here's what we're talking about.
A Knights Tale
This week on Go Get Your Girl, we charge into A Knight's Tale—where peasant king William Thatcher lies, jousts, and somehow pulls it off (despite the white man dreads)
We’re breaking down bold moves, bad decisions, and Jocelyn… whose outfits we simply cannot defend (medieval chaos-core gone wrong).
Love? Questionable. Armor? Hot. Costumes? Jail. ⚔️✨
The Truth about Cats and Dogs
It's back to the 90s as Emma & Katie discuss this Uma Thurman/Janeane Garofolo hit, and no, sadly, they don't end up together. We also talk the Saw franchise, peak Millennial slang, Dr. Odyssey/Below Deck threesomes, pearl clutching at phone sex, and probably a bit too much talk about feet.
Fact Check: Janeane Garofolo was not on Mr. Show, but The Ben Stiller Show, which also included Bob Odenkirk and David Cross. So sorry to confuse them.
High School Musical 1
WE'RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER!!! Join Emma and Katie as they tackle their first DCOM: the 2006 Zach Efron classic High School Musical. Tune in as they chat how this became a global phenomenon, how East High's hiring practices should be severely questioned and which songs are memorable and which are not. Put on your fanciest hat and chunky belt to see these kids belt out some questionable songs.
Eternity
Part romcom, part dystopian horror movie, Emma & Katie talk about the 2025 movie Eternity, and find that forever is really long time. Goos Place spoilers abound as Katie gets caught up in a premise that's so existentially terrifying, she can't connect, and there's a lot og math involved as a result. Also lots of talk about the Dick Wolfiverse
Priceless (Hors de Prix) 2006
Bonjour listeners! Join Emma and Katie as they travel to the great land of obscure French Comedies! Tune in as we unpack the chaos of pretending to be rich, the surprisingly sweet chemistry between con artists, and the eternal question: is love truly priceless… or does it just come with a very fancy hotel bill? Expect laughs, questionable life advice, and a toast to Audrey Tautou’s most delightfully chaotic romantic adventure. C'est La Vie!
Sweet Home Alabama
Hey Y'all! Emma & Katie dive back into their Southern childhoods a bit in this regrettable 00's romcom about a pretty bad person and a nice boy who deserves better, maybe two. We also talk about video games, George Wallace, Lynyrd Skynyrd, share some Tiffany's anecdotes, have a return to the Lynskey/Lynynskey dichotomy, and get out in under an hour so Emma can make her train!
The Notebook
Yup. You read that right. Grab your tissues because this week Emma & Katie dive into their first Sparks: the 2004 classic The Notebook. Join them as they chat the moments that made them hyperventilate sob, why every 16 year old is insufferable and how the movie ending is compared to the book ending. Which line makes you cringe less: If you're a bird, I'm a bird or can our love make miracles? YOU decide!
Long Shot
Emma & Katie get political as they discuss the 2019 Seth Rogen/Charlize Theron vehicle Long Shot, the Panera Lemonade that Kills You, Jennifer Aniston's film career, a Seth Rogenessaince, and of course the tyranny of the male refractory period and how it relates to the organization and numbering of sexual encounters
Blades of Glory
Don't call it the Olympics! Emma & Katie talk about the early 00's Will Ferrel sports comedy Blades of Glory, which almost sortakinda has a romantic subplot with Pam Beasley and Napoleon Dynamite??
The Lady Eve
Emma & Katie talk about the 1941 screwball classic The Lady Eve! We also talk about Ted Lasso, wonder if snakes are necessary, and a lot more than you'd expect about puzzles.
The Princess Diaries
THE QUEEN IS COMING! This week on Go Get Your Girl, Emma and Katie dive into their innter Mia Thermopolises as they trip over the bleachers, drop the ice cream, and accidentally discover they're next in line for the throne.
They debate the real villain of the film (absolutely Lily), celebrate Genovia as a country built entirely on vibes and press conferences, and question how no one clocked a literal queen wandering around San Francisco.
It’s unhinged nostalgia, feral teen angst, and a loving roast of the movie that taught us that the secret to...
Morning Glory
Good Morning! Today Emma & Katie talk abut the 2010 officey mostly platonic comedy Morning Glory, and get into the weeds on how men get their tubes tied, American Girl Dolls/Emma not beating the allegations, more Grey's Anatomy than you'd expect, and of course, regattas vs horse polo.
Fact Check: American Girl Dolls in the late 90s cost about $80, or about $150 in 2026 dollars
People We Meet on Vacation
Emma & Katie discuss the brand new Netflix adaptation of Emily Henry's beloved romcom book, disagree about saxophones, talk Tom Cavanaugh, the 80's and the Air Bud extended universe.Katie tries to remember the differences even though she read the book in 2021, so there's every possibility she's wrong about all of it, please don't @ her. See you on vacation!
Eurovision Song Contest: The story of Fire Saga
In this episode, Go Get Your Girl hops a giant hamster wheel straight into Eurovision: The Story of Fire Saga, the Netflix fever dream where national pride, questionable accents, and pop anthems collide. We break down Lars and Sigrit’s journey from tiny Icelandic town to the world’s campy stage, asking the big questions: Is “Ja Ja Ding Dong” the greatest song ever written? Did the elves go too far? and where is our spin off movie staring Mita and Lamtov living their best gay lives.
Under the Tuscan Sun
Happy New Year! We get right to the point on this one, and get right out. Our shortest episode ever, and who says that's a bad thing? It's cold outside, we're probably at war with Venezuela, a brief interlude under some sun might do us all some good.
The Princess Switch
It's time to go up on the Hudge-top with another Vanessa Hudgens Christmas spectacular! Vanessa Hudgens meets Vanessa Hudgens, chaos meets cocoa, and royal protocol gets absolutely body-checked by bakery girl energy (who is absolutely from Chicago- she has the hat to prove it!). Help us close out this year's Go Get Your Ho-Ho-Ho's with this Netflix classic.
A New York Christmas Wedding with Ada-Rhodes Wish
Get ready for the most deranged movie we've ever watched on this podcast! Ada-Rhodes Wish joins Emma & Katie to talk about this fever dream of a lesbian Christmas romance that takes on teen pregnancy, the Catholic Church, and, well, lots of other things. It's certainly something unique!
Fact Check: Peter Florrick (Chris Noth) was State's Attorney and then later the Governor of Illinois on The Good Wife.
White Christmas
Emma and Katie are dreaming of a White Christmas! This week, we’re sliding into White Christmas with jazz hands, questionable military logic, and enough harmony to melt snow on contact. Bing Crosby is crooning, Danny Kaye is doing the absolute most, and every emotional problem is apparently solved by putting on a show in Vermont. We are dive into Bing's creepily blue eyes, Vera's inane dance moves and how that Buttermilk-Liverwurst combo should NOT be a bedtime treat.
While You Were Sleeping
Holy Buckets! Emma & Katie catch the El back to 1995 for this holiday classic. We have train talk, CDs, Christmas cops, some Chicago history, but mostly, a mea culpa to PAFG Madison, please forgive us.

Magic Mike
Alright, alright, alright y'all, it's not a romcom but it's a fun, sexy time so just indulge us on this one.
