Kratom is a plant based product cold in smoke shops in Minnesota.  You can buy Kratom at some convenience and gas stations.  Kratom is drawing increasing attention from health officials researchers and consumers.  It is becoming more popular but is illegal in Wisconsin. Threats for the Upper Mississippi River never stop, but they do change over time.  Still the river and watershed has improved in the recent decades.  Long time Wisconsin D-N-R Warden Steve Dewald witnessed a lot of change and was influential in enforcement and improvements for commercial oil vessels on the River.  As part of our America 250 coverage Mr. Dewald shared his knowledge and appreciation of the Mississippi with LaCrosseTalk host Sean Dwyer.

About 1 in 7 Wisconsin adults, roughly 15% of the population meets the criteria for a substance abuse disorder in a given year.  That translates to approximately 800,000 Wisconsinites who could benefit from treatment or recovery support. This estimate comes from state and federal data showing that Wisconsin's prevalence is higher than the national average. This is especially driven by high alcohol abuse.
