There are varying reports of the Philadelphia Flyers’ interest in pending free agent defenseman John Carlson, as well as the Anaheim Ducks’ Mason McTavis who, like Trevor Zegras and Jamie Drysdale, appears to be falling out of favor with Pat Verbeek & Co.

While there aren’t many (any) truly elite free agent options, it’s hard to imagine Philly making zero additions on July 1st.

Wednesday was Rick Tocchet’s turn to meet with the media and wrap up 2025-26 season with an exit interview in which he discussed his “controversial” decision to scratch Matvei Michkov for game 4 against the Hurricanes, and his relationship with the 21-year-old Russian sophomore. Tocchet also went into detail on fixing the power play, which has sucked for 5 years, his assessment of other young players and more.

On Tuesday night, the Toronto Maple Leafs won the Gavin McKenna sweepstakes, moving from fifth to first in the NHL Draft Lottery. With the move, the first round picks the Leafs owe the Philadelphia Flyers and Boston Bruins lose their protections, and open up a lot of flexibility for Danny Briere. After losing a heartbreaking Game 2 in overtime, the Philadelphia Flyers trail the Carolina Hurricanes 2-0 as the series transitions to Philly.

The Philadelphia Flyers won a first round matchup with the Pittsburgh Penguins, but the Carolina Hurricanes are a class above the rest of the Metropolitan Division, and proved it in the first game of this second round matchup.
