Spring of Life Messages

Suffering so often seems random, and this question is asked by many in the Bible. Jesus responds to his followers asking this question and challenges their premises. Three truths hang in tension, God’s goodness, God’s omnipotence, and the reality of sin/suffering/death. How can all three be true at the same time?

Who sets the pace of love? In a fast paced world, we are wired to do as much as we can as quickly as we can and can get wrapped up in finding our value in what we accomplish. God's pacing commands rest and delight. God leads the Israelite people out of a pace of life that is predicated on their labor for Pharoah, into the wilderness where they have to learn new rhythms, and are commanded to practice the Sabbath. How do our lives reflect the pace God calls us into with the practice of Sabbath? How does...

The woman gave Jesus a drink crossing all the social boundaries then she did something even more courageous, she shared her testimony with her own people inviting others to encounter Christ. We need courage to accept living water and courage to offer it to others.

 Noah, Abraham, and Sarah believed God would fulfill all the promises. They knew the promises would outlive them and they let go of personally experiencing the fulfillment. The faith of these required them to leap before they could see the landing. How do we develop that kind of faith here and now?

I confess I often pray small prayers. I rarely pray boldly asking God for big things.  It is hard to dream big dreams and pray bold prayers. Jesus specifically invites his followers to pray bold prayers and be persistent. How does this scripture challenge your prayer life?

The practice of gratitude is something that shapes how we see everything we have. If we recognize God’s generosity we can’t help but give thanks joyfully. Why is it that we so often fail to offer gratitude like those 9 who did not say thank you? What must we do to be grounded in gratitude?

The people of God are faithful in building the tabernacle and we see the whole purpose behind it. It was to be a place God’s glory would inhabit and it would become a tool in which they would follow God’s leading in the years to come.  The tabernacle offers us a theology of church in the wilderness.

The sin of idolatry is when we put our faith in something other than God. The way the story of the exodus unfolds right during the most dramatic part of the telling of the Passover the narrator pauses to talk about remembering and reenacting the story right at the most exciting part?
