It’s here, Sir Christopher Nolan’s take on Homer’s epic tale of a man’s journey home, The Odyssey. Starring Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland et al, the MYFYF duo ponder what went right and what went wrong. Spoiler alert: there are spoilers.

They then each rank and rate Nolan’s films (leaving out Following, Insomnia and Batman Begins though, cos Joe hasn’t seen those). Enjoy!

Some films carry a weight: it’s a classic; it’s a masterpiece, it’s a classic masterpiece. Ingmar Bergman’s The Seventh Seal is one such film, and Joe loves it. Till now, it’s never felt like the right time for Adam to dally with Bergman. Now Joe has made him watch a Knight play chess with Death. 

This episode comes with no weight, it’s a tale of a man, a film and a rusty nail.

This week, Joe made Adam watch First Blood, starring John J Rambo aka Slyvester Stallone. How come 80s action aficionado Adam never watched it? Stephen Norrington's 1998 film Blade is the topic of today's discussion, a movie in which a half-human vampire hunter, played by Wesley Snipes, seeks to foil the plot of mildly-bad vampire villain Dorf. 

Joe & Adam dive into one of Adam's all time favourites and explore the film from several different angles, including Freudian. 

Oscar Isaac makes some risky investments and dangerous deals to grow his oil company, in the middle of a most violent year in New York in the early 1980s. Joe & Adam discuss this grown up movie, and also play a couple of IMDB based games. 

It’s the phenomenal 2004 Studio Ghibli, Hayao Miyazaki directed based on the book of the same name flick Howl’s Moving Castle.

How could Joe & Adam forget this? Doesn’t matter; they’re glad they did so they got to rewatch it and talk about: the choice between watching subtitled Ghiblis vs English dub versions, the joyful little side characters that invariably pop up in a Miyazaki flick and bindels, plus a sort of connected but not really side chat about The Last Samurai.

Shane Carruth and his buddy build a time machine for $7,000 in a time when such things were possible. Joe & Adam reflect on Primer, a great or unnecessarily complicated film depending on who you ask. Primer was a darling of Independent cinema in 2004, and holds a place in the hearts of many hard sci-fi fans. The Ticket Stub Journey comes to a close. What a year 2003 (twenty oh three) was: Adaptation, Confessions of a Dan, Matrix Reloaded… Just Married and more!

Adam digs through his faded stubs, saw lot of trash, not many double bills, and vaguely remembers who he was back then. What seat did he sit in? How much was the ticket?

It’s Big Mel; he’s back… and this time it’s not Scotland, it’s America he saves. Hailing from 2000, the Roland Emmerich’s directed The Patriot hits our eyes - and boy, at 2 hours 45 mins, does it hit.

The factual history is all over the shop… but is this actually watchable? Find out, Joe and Adam get waylaid by Andrew Garfield (Good Choice/Bad Choice), and they muse for far too long about Big Mel macking on his dead wife’s sister. It’s an epic chat, fitting for an epic movie.
