PADDLING AGAINST PLASTIC | with Passage Adventures
05/11/2021

In 2018 Lucy Graham and Mathilde Gordon of Passage Adventures spent three months kayaking the 2042km of the Inside Passage, from Alaska to Vancouver Island. They did the entire journey single-use plastic free and raised over $20,000 for the Living Oceans Society and the Tangaroa Blue Foundation. In 2020, as part of their goal to raise awareness of marine plastic pollution and promote women in adventure, they also released Changing Tides a documentary of their journey, currently on tour with the Ocean Film Festival 2021!

Tessa Hansen-Smith is allergic to water. Yup. Water. Tessa has a rare chronic disease called Aquagenic Urticaria. This means she is not only unable to drink a glass of water or shower without extreme pain and other symptoms, but she is also allergic to her own sweat and tears, and other people!

Tessa joined Chelsea this week to talk all about her condition and how she has made changes in her life to try and live as waterless as possible.

AROUND THE WORLD IN 7 MARATHONS | with Beck Mitchell

In February 2020, Beck Mitchell represented Australia in the World Marathon Challenge where she ran 7 marathons, across 7 continents, in 7 consecutive days! In doing so she raised over $50k for suicide prevention!

Endometriosis [aka endo] affects 1 in 10 people with uteruses, and often goes undiagnosed, being written off as regular period pain. Shelby talks about how she got diagnosed with endo and pcos, treatments, how it affects her day-to-day life, and what happened when an ovarian cyst burst during a work meeting.

THE ATHLETE ALLERGIC TO EXERCISE | with Natasha Coates

In the last 7 years, UK elite disability gymnast Natasha Coates, has had to use upwards of 400 EpiPens. At 18 Natasha was diagnosed with Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS), a disease which makes her body go into anaphylactic shock with no triggers, essentially making her allergic to everything. Despite this, she has become the number one British disability gymnast, with 22 British titles to her name. In this episode Chelsea talks to Natasha about how she got diagnosed, what that means for her everyday life, how she got into gymnastics, and if there really is anything better than sliced bread.

When Katie Stagliano was 9 years old she grew some seedlings into a 40 pound (18kg) cabbage! Knowing it was too much to feed her family, Katie donated the cabbage to her local soup kitchen where it fed 275 people! Now 21, Katie is the founder of Katie’s Krops, a not-for-profit charity with 100 gardens growing vegetables all over America, feeding the hungry. Katie has written a children’s book, was one of the subjects of the documentary “The Starfish Throwers”, and was the first US citizen to win the Clinton Global Citizen Award… oh and she’s met Matt Damon
