#266 Klima-Wissenschaftsupdate mit Prof. Stefan Rahmstorf "Kippt die atlantische Meereszirkulation AMOC?"
Früher galt der Zusammenbruch der großen atlantischen Meereszirkulation (Volksmund: Golfstrom) als hochgefährliches, aber unwahrscheinliches Szenario. Doch neue Klimadaten und verbesserte Klimamodelle zeigen: Das Risiko für das Erreichen dieses Kipppunktes ist dramatisch gestiegen. Die Folgen für Europa wären katastrophal und könnten schon in den nächsten Jahrzehnten eintreten. Die atlantische Meereszirkulation transportiert große Mengen Wärme nach Europa und sorgt so für unser vergleichsweise mildes Klima. Fällt sie aus, droht Nordeuropa eine Abkühlung um mehrere Grad.
