Früher galt der Zusammenbruch der großen atlantischen Meereszirkulation (Volksmund: Golfstrom) als hochgefährliches, aber unwahrscheinliches Szenario. Doch neue Klimadaten und verbesserte Klimamodelle zeigen: Das Risiko für das Erreichen dieses Kipppunktes ist dramatisch gestiegen. Die Folgen für Europa wären katastrophal und könnten schon in den nächsten Jahrzehnten eintreten.
