Solarpunk Presents
Solarpunk Presents is a podcast that explores the people and projects working on bringing us a better world today.Solarpunk is more than just an idea, more than just an aesthetic. Those inspire us, but where do we go from there? How do we put the values and visions described in solarpunk fiction and art into action in the here and now? What does that look like, translated into the reality of our present moment, into the places and spaces where we’re at? Hosts Ariel Kroon and Aleya Jobson are producing podcast episodes featuring interviews with people working to ma...

Special Carbon Neutral Strike Update 37: A Nature Benefit System & Currency with Ariel!
On this very special Carbon Neutral Strike Update, Ariel joins me to talk about the Nature Benefit System & Currency (NBS&C) forming the backbone of Fastfrwrd as the theory and basis of praxis carried out on the platform. Nature Benefit Systems are about fitting into nature and ensuring our actions suit the natural environment. The currency that flows through this system serves as payment for ecosystem services that reward environmental care over extraction. We talk about a few different ways this System and Currency can be realized in the real world, and the fact that Fastfrwrd is a data...
9.3 Solarpunk Presents: Appropedia & Appropriate Technology with Felipe Schenone
Have you ever heard of appropriate technology? It's all about the type of technology that is accessible to most people, from its creation to its use and repair, inclusive and appropriate for various environments. The website Appropedia is a wiki style repository of knowledge with more than 4,000 projects detailed on the site relating to sustainability, accessibility, inclusion and an appropriately paced rate of progression for all parties involved in the global community, rather than presenting technologies that the end user does not know how it works, how to replicate it or how to repair it, and instead are simply...

Stories from The Stellar: Leander & the Billionaire Strike
In this special release of "Stories from the Stellar" we follow the tale of Leander and the pivotal Billionaire Strike that changed the world of The Stellar in 2029. Trigger Warning: Allusion to gendered violence. It's not necessarily a trigger but my 'cockney accent' also requires warning!

<...9.2 Solarpunk Presents: National Parks for All! with Audrey Peterman
This week, we talk to Audrey Peterman, a Jamaican activist who played a key role in making a home for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Colour) in the great outdoors in the United States. Historically, people of colour were not deemed relevant in the Outdoors sector, especially urban people of colour. However, Audrey fought to combat this stereotype and has written extensively on the matter. We sit down and listen to the wonderful stories and great wisdom derived from years of activism.
Carbon Neutral Strike Update 32: August 28 to Sept 3, 2026 Ghostwriter No Longer
[Edit: Post publishing addition of Aug 31, 2026!] In this update I struggle to write but feel good that the work is mine as opposed to my early days in the working world where my work did not belong to me. Quite a few Jamaicans ghostwrite because we need the money and we speak the language, lingua franca.

Carbon Neutral Strike Update 31: August 21 to 27 2026 "Just"
In this Carbon Neutral Strike Update, I am without cancer! Yay! Infected lymph node... so kinda gross but hey, not cancer. I am the grateful. I talk about the writing I've done of both Bachelor Thesis (not finished, don't get excited for me) and a story for a magazine. I share a snippet from the Thesis where I highlight the most used word in my Carbon Neutral Strike Updates 1 to 30. The word: "Just" and what that means.
Hope you enjoy!
9.1 Solarpunk Presents: Eating for the Planet through Fork Ranger
On this episode from Season 9 of Solarpunk Presents, we sit down with Frank Holleman from Fork Ranger - the fact is that the top 10% richest people on the planet are responsible for a large majority of consumer emissions and so eating for the planet can make a difference when we know that 1/3rd of our emissions are based on our food system. Frank breaks down the details of what it means to make great food choices, and that it's not all or nothing; you can take many paths towards being more aware of how you eat and what it...
Carbon Neutral Strike Update 30: August 14 to 20, 2026 Taking Care of Business
In this episode I try my best. I compensate music making and game making, I realize not to take friendship for granted and eventually compensate messengers too, I have a block for my work, but go to the doctor finally to start getting clarity on my health issue, I walk across the city to do it and it's not as bad as I expected (on the way, the way back got worse and worse!) and I share a demo of a song that came full formed months ago.

8.10 Solarpunk Presents: Idealism versus Pragmatism
In this episode we welcome back none other than Christina De La Rocha, former cohost of Solarpunk Presents, in order to discuss the benefits of Idealism versus Pragmatism. To us, idealism is aiming for the highest goals and accepting nothing less, while pragmatism includes compromise and just accepting the job as done even if it's only 75% of the goal. Which one should we go for as Solarpunks? And is it a binary or, like so often happens, is the binary false?
Carbon Neutral Strike Update 29: August 8 to 13, 2026 Dreams & Strikes
In this update, I discuss fears about people coming home at night on the island, I get stricter about my strike, talk about my Bachelor, some Fastfrwrd Dreams that you can skip to ten minutes in the update if you don't wanna hear about it haha, carrying groceries home on foot, all the 'can't's about the strike and acknowledging that things are happening.

Carbon Neutral Strike Update 27: July 25 to 31, 2026 Despondent Week
In this week's recap, I return to striking as much as possible outside of food and water after seeing Bluesky protesters who no doubt enriched oil companies when they gathered so what's the difference made? I think protests should be done from home. I carry on throughout the week working on an onboarding game for Fastfrwrd, pushing my creativity further, and exploring the ways in which I can improve my situation. We end the week with an issue requiring the authorities and an overview of the traumas of Jamaicans that lead us to being a bit 'Killy Killy'. Humans...
8.9 Towards Solarpunk Medicine

Possible Trigger Warning. In this episode I try to make a dancey house song, I go into more details about my past in Germany, I share a couple poems I wrote about the experience, and describe some of the issues I have faced since then when presented with a reality post a blood ritual using womb blood to ward off fascism and a possible timeline where it did not go unnoticed. Oh, and Harry Potter scar pains are real. It's a bit neurospicy but also slightly interesting.
Carbon Neutral Strike Update 25: July 13 to 19, 2026 Hot Hot Heat
In this Carbon Neutral Strike update from the past week, I go through my last week of rest while on medication from the strike to make music, write short stories for potential magazine publishing, make Solarpunk Presents episodes and reflect upon moments where you find soul mates both platonic and not, and queerness. Creative work is fun but it's work. Hopefully that comes across in this update!

8.8 EVERYTHING FREE A TTRPG About A Moneyless World
In this episode we discuss the June poll through a thought experiment game Aleya made, played on Fastfrwrd.info, to simulate what a free revolution and a paid revolution might be like when juxtaposed, side by side, and compared for their benefits. This game is all about finding out whether or not a moneyless world can work, how it sounds and feels, and whether it can compete with the money, money, money world we know and, well, not love, but tolerate with mild socialist disdain? What do all you tanky, commie Solarpunks think? Do we throw out the dollar...
Carbon Neutral Strike Update 24: July 3 to 12, 2026 Creation & Solarpunk Now
In this episode, I feel the effects of my Carbon Neutral Strike choices as opportunities go by and my personal life suffers. I create two short stories to try to get published and speak about that process and encourage people to make their own art. I share a couple songs I made this week and hopefully it shows all the ideas that have brought me to these songs and their lyrical material. I end up expressing my frustrations and the need I have for a world that is Solarpunk now, since Kingston is one of the first places to...

Carbon Neutral Strike Reflections 2026
In this Carbon Neutral Strike update, I reflect on the past year of striking and what take-aways I have. We discuss the specifics, the situation that surrounded the carryings on of the strike, and the path forward. Would love to get some feedback on what you thought of the previous strike updates and what emotions you think your low impact lifestyle if you practice it would have brought about if you too made monologues like me! We talk about using gas everytime I smoke, my eco journey, cruel and unusual punishment, the plastic problem, 'becasue', getting paid less than $3...
8.7 Revisiting Solar and Lunarpunk Music
In this episode, Aleya and Ariel discuss the musical highlights of the post-punk and post-punk revival music scenes, and their influences on Aleya's teenage years and musical growth as well as whether they qualify not only as punk/post punk/revival but also solid Solarpunk or Lunarpunk. The music playlist can be found on the Solarpunk Presents Patreon where we share monthly playlist suggestions for all members including free members!

This episode, Ariel talks to Ruthanna Emrys and Gideon Lichfield, two of the judges of the inaugural Protopian Prize. Ruthanna will be judging the Democratic Futures prize, and Gideon will be judging the Public AI prize. We discuss just what each of those means, how they got involved with the Protopian Prize in the first place, and ideas and concepts that they would like to see submitted. 8.4 Solarpunk Presents: Lunarpunk Conversations
This episode, Ariel questions Aleya about lunarpunk, how she got into it, why it attracts her, and even some things that she doesn't like about it. Aleya then turns the interview around to ask Ariel about solarpunk, how she got involved, and its application in her everyday life. This episode also serves to announce changes at Solarpunk Presents; Christina has stepped back for personal reasons, and Aleya is stepping forward into the role of cohost, and we're pretty excited about it.

This episode of DIY Virtuality has me talking couchsurfing, workaway, travel, hitchiking and alternative currencies with Albi or Albrecht Ihlenburg or Rumkommen, a former couchsurfer of mine! We also have a song together where he made the track on his own, I found it, asked permission, and made “Hammerhead” from the album “Seeker” and also on “Seekers of Utopia” the expanded album. Audio crackling due to unsteady signal, working on it.
DIY Virtuality with Elina Street and Aleya
This is a type of podcast I do with people from my past about sustainability, life, effective activism and a principled life, friendship and our past.
With Elina Street, I catch up with this old friend from my adolescence in France. Elina Street is a director who has filmed an interview with Celine Dion! She has also done great work to co-create The Lesbian Bar project and we touch on that topic in this chat!

DIY Virtuality with Suma Puma and Aleya
Hey all, so I do another type of podcast with people from my past who I want to touch base with. We often talk about life stuff but there is always a sustainability link. In this episode we speak at length about adoption which many in the anthropocene view as their only way towards child-rearing when the future is so uncertain. We also talk about gender-based (ish) issues and pressures of capitalist worklife that can affect mental well-being in an already stressful world. Watch out for the fakeout ending!

May 14 2026 Hunger Strike Day 9 Update
Heyo! Today marks the last day of my hunger strike because I have to start my medication for my circulation and I need to take it twice a day with a meal. No getting around that and since I've been light-headed a lot it is somewhat urgent. In this final dispatch, I go into my history with food with a few pitstops about my travels, plastic and other topics. I then record having my first piece of food in NINE DAYS!!
