Message from the Mountain
Short reflections on the connection between Nature and Spirituality that can be used positively in the listener's daily life.
TAKING UP RESIDENCE
A pair of swallows have taken up residence in the bird house at the top of the Lupine Field. It is fun to watch them dipping and diving as they sweep across the opening, collecting insects. Thoughts often take up residence in our minds. Some are wanted and some are not. Setting positive intentions of gratitude to invite positive thoughts.

CREEPING ALONG
It has taken a while for the ground phlox to spread into beautiful pink and blue flowers, but they creep a little more each year. Like the phlox it can take time to develop goals in life. It is often tempting to give up on following our intentions, but if we believe they are for the greater good, in time we will see the results.

A FRIENDLY INVASION
A large section of our lawn has been invaded by fragrant lilies-of-the valley. Years ago, I transplanted a couple of shovels full of both white and pink ones, and now they have spread. I think about positive acts of kindness when one spreads to others.

MAGICAL PLACES
One of my magical places is sitting on the bench at the top of the lupine field and looking at the clouds float above the mountains. I feel connected to the vast Cosmos beyond. I have come to realize I have had magical places going back to my childhood. I believe we all have a magical place where we can connect and be open to miracles and guidance in our lives.

TIME TO PAUSE AND TAKE A DEEP BREATH
When I opened the outside door, I was greeted by the beautiful fragrance of lilacs in full bloom. There is nothing like that smell, and I have learned to take the time over the next week or so to take a breath of gratitude because I will not experience them again until next year.

WHITE DAFFODILS
There is a white daffodil blooming in the Ormond Garden at the Center. People tell me they have never seen one of that color. I love diversity in a flower garden as well as life in general. I love when diversity comes together positively in life to enhance the soul’s journey.

DISCOVERING SOMETHING NEW
A tiny glossy variegated leaf caught my eye just off the trail to the Lupine Field. It may have had some sort of bloom, but I couldn’t tell. I couldn’t find anything like it in a couple of flower books. It may be something I will recognize from a different angle. Life is like that. There is always something new to discover.

LADIES IN WAITING
The lady slippers are poking up through the leaves and beginning take shape. When they have blossomed, we like to count how many we can find. Another favorite thing is to watch people develop their abilities and start to use them positively to bring joy to others. Some bloom right away while others take a little longer to open.

THE ENDING OF A DRY SPELL
This part of our state has been experiencing moderate to severe drought. The last few days of rain will go a long way to change that. Dry spells in life often end in a deluge of movement, flooding our brains as we rush to capture it all before another dry spell. It is important to keep a balance between the highs and lows.

PLANTING THE SEEDS
Nature is a master at planting seeds that cover the landscape, including two English Hawthorn trees at the edge of the lupine field. In the late spring they produce white flowers that turn into red berries later in the season. People can plant seeds in the soul’s landscape by positive acts of kindness that can grow and spread.

TRUE BLUE
When I see violets blossoming, I think of the old phrase, “true blue”. To me that means honesty and sincerity. The violets represent my feelings, and that made me think about true blue people, those who set their intentions for the greater good, not only for the environment, but in all aspects of life. You can represent this higher vibration by helping to change the energy of the world.

I WONDER WHAT'S IN THE WATER
There is a place on the trail to the Lupine Field where the ground is wet, and the water draining across appears to have oil on it (or something that looks like oil). I wonder what is in that water. I wonder about a lot of things as I wander. Perhaps I should pay more attention rather than letting things go unresolved.

SPLASHES OF COLOR
Some of the tulips that were planted last year in the Ormond Gardens have opened, providing little splashes of color while the rest of the perennials still have a ways to go to flower. Life provides us with little splashes of color all year round with things that create heart-felt sharable gratitude that brings joy to all that are aware.

THE FIDDLERS ARE IN TUNE
The strings on the fiddlehead ferns have been tuned to the right pitch by Nature and ready to provide a feast for all. There are so many things in Nature that remind me of other positive elements in our lives. It is a connection that most of us experience every day. I consider it the Nature of our lives.

TINY SMILES
On Mother’s Day tiny bluets remind me of the smiles of children being brought up in a loving environment by their guardians, especially their mothers. Tiny smiles can make a big difference in the world.

EXPECTATIONS
A patch of wild strawberry blossoms caught my eye as I wandered about the Orchard. I smiled as I was filled with the expectation of tiny red treats soon to be enjoyed. Of course, wildlife is also expecting the same thing and may eat them before people get to them. Lots of times expectations turn out differently than anticipated. Just maybe, something better is waiting.

THE SWEETNESS OF SPRING
It is so invigorating to be in the heart of the sweetness of spring. The pear tree and plumb tree are in bloom with the lilacs only a week or so away. It is also the time when many people are feeling that energy and desire to finally emerge from winter and join with Nature in discovering life again for the first time.

GROWING WILD
With spring underway, I love to wander about the fields and trails on the lookout for wildflowers. Recently, I spotted delicate yellow flowers (I think called “wild oats”) that could easily be missed if I was not paying attention. And that reminded me of positive acts of kindness that happen when no one is noticing. They are like wild kindnesses.

MANY CHANGES TAKING PLACE
Finally, the beech trees have lost their old leaves, and new ones are popping out. Spring has taken over. Of course, changes are taking place every day in all aspects of life, some welcome and some not. I believe that people can use more heart-based love to send out positive energy and help change the world for the better.

SLOWLY DISAPPEARING
The sunset view out my front window is slowly disappearing now that the leaves are beginning to grow. Soon all I will be able to see is the green of the trees. In life some things slowly disappear without our realizing it. I think the key is to always use positive thoughts and actions, being aware of the moment.

BEAUTY COMES IN ALL SIZES
The miniature grape hyacinth caught my eye in a section of the Center’s gardens. It reminded me that beauty comes in all sizes. People often judge beauty by size and miss something small that is just as beautiful. Little acts of kindness that go unnoticed can lead to big impacts on others. There are many different sized flowers in the garden of life.

LINES IN THE SKY
Have you ever noticed, on a day with clear blue sky, many jets flying in different directions spreading their exhaust trails until they merge. Then suddenly the sky is filled with a cover of clouds. Conspiracy theorists call these lines chem trails. I don’t know the reason for many things; I just ask my team for the right guidance to help spread heart-based positive energy.

THE CALL OF THE SEA
I don’t exactly remember when I realized the sea was calling me. Perhaps it was the children’s story about a toy sailboat that travelled down a river that ended up in the ocean. However, I know now that I need to visit the coast a few times a year to experience the smells, the sounds and the feeling. I believe everyone has a connection in their soul that leads us to adventures. What is yours?

HEDGING MY BET
My parents gave us forsythia after we built our house nearly 60 years ago, and 30 years later we received more for the Center. A dozen years ago I transplanted several in hopes of screening off the road. Now it is a colorful hedge. Listening to our positive heart-based goals can help us know when to proceed or not.

EXPECTATIONS
As I approached the road to the Orchard, I noticed two deer feeding across from the entrance. One of them was larger than the other and appeared to be expecting. There may be a new fawn as spring progresses. We have a lot of expectations in life, many of them ego driven that never reaching fulfilment. I set my intentions that my expectations come from my heart.

THE FICKLENESS OF SPRING
There is an old song, “Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most”. I often think of it when winter does not want to give up, like this year. When life does not live up to my expectations, I know something is guiding me that knows much more than me.

IT ISN'T OVER 'TIL ITS OVER
I can still see the snow-covered peak of Mt. Washington. When he was young, my grandson used to call them “the Ice Age”. Some of the snow could last until August. Time and the weather will tell. We have things that hang on in life far longer than we would like. We need to set our intentions for positive results to help them manifest.

TAKING THEIR TIME
I have been waiting for a bunch of daffodils to open for what seems like a month. They have been taking their time, and, with the cold weather I can’t say I blame them. We wait for a lot of things in life that take their time to manifest. When they finally do, it is usually the right time.

PINK MAYFLOWERS
Most of our mayflowers have white blossoms, but certain soil conditions produce pink blooms that are my favorites. It is interesting to me to see what people like or dislike, especially relating to colors. For color sensitive people, clothes with certain colors can either brighten up a day or darken it. Being aware might make a difference in your day.

EARRING MATERIAL
I chuckled on a recent walk when I came upon an excellent deposit of earring material. There was a time when I would have collected the deer scat for someone to use in earrings. That may sound gross, but the world is full of different approaches. It is how we are able to find ways to understand our differences for positive outcomes.

FEED ME
I looked out the window and saw a big turkey staring back. I think it was sending a message that he wanted to be fed. I smiled and knew there was plenty of nature’s food waiting for him to find. I was reminded of peoples’ quest for spiritual food to nourish their souls. Nature can provide that also when one takes the time to connect.

LITTLE GEMS

WATCHFUL EYES
I have a feeling that are watchful eyes accompanying me in Nature, and I look for signs of these spirits. Then again, it is not just in Nature that I have this feeling. It is on every step of my soul’s path. Some people call them angels or spirit guides or whatever feels right to them. I believe we all have watchful eyes guiding us.

CLEAR PATH
It is a straight clear path to the Lupine Field, once I get around a turn from the Orchard. Thank you to those that keep the brush trimmed. I am reminded that the path of life sometimes is clear and straight but other times has twists and turns. Knowing that we are being guided on our journey can help clear the way.

A PLACE TO REFLECT
I am very grateful for several places in Nature where I can pause and reflect on the moment, the past or the future and connect with what I call my invisible supportive team that helps me navigate my Soul’s path. I know I am never alone, and I am no different than you. That quiet moment of reflection might make a big difference in your life.

BEAUTY IN MANY STAGES
I have enjoyed watching the pussy willows development this spring from their earliest buds to fuzzy blooms to maturing seeds, and next will be green leaves. Each stage is beautiful. I also enjoy seeing the beauty in people as they mature during the stages of their lives. There is always beauty to be found as we mature in life.

BRIGHT SPOTS
My eyes caught a splash of bright yellow when I looked out the window at my wife’s little flower garden. It was miniature daffodils, only a couple of inches tall, in full bloom. My heart warmed with gratitude, and I thought of people who are bright spots of positivity, no matter where their day brings them. They can change a life with their kind words, smile or action.

CLUES FROM THE PAST
As I look out the window, I can see a clue as to what was happening here two hundred years ago: the remains of an old pond that held water to run a bark grinding mill for tanning leather. If you believe that your soul has been on earth before, you may find clues to your past karma in likes and dislikes, abilities, and connections to other people.

THE FIRST TINY LUPINES ARE UP
I carefully moved into the lupine field trying not to step on any plants and I found the first tiny lupines sprouted. My heart sang with gratitude, and my goal is to enjoy their growth as they carpet the clearing with their beautiful blooms in June. It is good for me to have little positive goals each day and share by positive actions.

FINDING A WARM SPOT
I watched a Morning Cloak butterfly land on a sun warmed spot of leaves on a cool spring day. It seemed to be taking a moment to reenergize itself before its next flight. I have a warm spot in my heart where I collect things that I am grateful which helps sustain the next flight of my soul. The butterfly did that for me.
