A while back I made a video called ‘Why Didn't Voldemort Try to RECRUIT Grindelwald?’, and basically- the focus of that video was why Voldemort never made any attempts to recruit an imprisoned Grindelwald at Nurmengard. Voldemort was gone, pretty much everyone affiliated with him was caught, and the Ministry and greater wizarding community were left with the incredibly difficult task of prosecuting those who had sided with Voldemort. And I say DIFFICULT because it was actually a fairly complicated process figuring out who was genuinely bad, and who was just operating under the Imperius Curse.

In the wizarding world, few magical concepts spark as many “what if” debates as the ability to alter the past. If it could be used to save both Buckbeak and Sirius, why didn’t anyone just go a little further? Why not stop Cedric Diggory’s death? Or warn Lily and James before Voldemort arrived? Why not save Dumbledore, or even stop Voldemort’s rise altogether by sabotaging Tom Riddle’s past?

It’s been a couple of weeks now since the official release of the first teaser trailer for HBO’s Harry Potter reboot and that means we’ve finally gotten a glimpse at what the show has to offer. No more speculation, it’s all there in plain sight (at least, a lot of it). If I’m honest I have to say that while the show will never (at least for me) match up to the original films, I was pleasantly surprised by a lot of what we saw. Murder or KILLING splits the soul. This is reinforced time and time again.

But despite this fact, we see it happen again and again throughout the Harry Potter series, and not just by the bad guys.

It makes sense for Death Eaters to kill..It’s clear where their moral compass lies and I would presume that KILLING (and the subsequent impact on their soul) is the price they’re willing to pay to achieve their cause.
