The New Jersey Devils finished second last in the Metropolitan Division. Given the amount of expectations heading into the season, they severely underperformed. However, a lot of factors certainly didn't go their way. They dealt with a lot of injuries, a coaching change, and a lot more. Luckily, the offseason will give them a chance to hit the reset button.

It was an absolute barn burner as the New Jersey Devils defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 6-5. The Devils scored three power-play goals and Timo Meier helped lead the charge. Jesper Bratt came up big in the third period and is now a point-per-game player. The Devils captured the season series against the Leafs, defeating them two games to one.

A couple of days ago, it was revealed that Jack Hughes would be shut down the rest of the season. He recently had season-ending shoulder surgery in Vail, Colorado. Since the New Jersey Devils were already eliminated from playoff contention, it didn't matter either way. Hughes has been dealing with a few injuries throughout the season. So, it raises the question if he was truly healthy or not the past few months.

From Jack Hughes now scheduled to get shoulder surgery to now being mathematically eliminated from playoff contention, it's been a rough few days for the New Jersey Devils. They lost their more recent matchup to the Toronto Maples Leafs 5-2. The Devils had a 2-1 lead at one point but allowed the Maple Leafs to score four unanswered goals. This game highlighted the Devils' continued flaws all season long.

Fight Between Kurtis MacDermid & Matt Rempe Finally Happened as Chaos Was Unleashed at The Garden
It was a long time coming, but heavyweights Kurtis MacDermid and Matt Rempe finally dropped the mitts within the first two seconds of the game. Not only that but was a complete 5-on-5 line brawl to open up the game. Things got out of hand at Madison Square Garden as there were 162 penalty minutes assessed after the first period. The New Jersey Devils lost 4-3 to the New York Rangers after all the chaos.
