Episode180 Door Gunner to Lawyer (Veteran Interview)

Sgt. George Moran served in the U.S. Army from 2012 to 2019 as a 15P (Aviation Operations Specialist) and briefly as a 31D (Criminal Investigation Division). He completed two overseas tours—Korea (2013–2014) with the 2ID 3-2 GSAB and Afghanistan (2015) with the 101st GSAB in Kandahar Province. During his service, he sustained three traumatic brain injuries (TBI) from training accidents and an IED explosion. Despite these challenges, he earned a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice and later a Master’s in Legal Studies with a focus on environmental law.

After over 17 years of service, he medically retired in 2022 as a Master Sergeant in the MOS 12X (General Engineering Supervisor). His service included two tours in Iraq (OIF 05-06, OIF 08-09) and deployment in support of Operation Spartan Shield in Kuwait from 2015 to 2016. Now, he applies his skills as a lead construction and maintenance project developer in Washington, DC.
