[PREVIEW] Watch Out for Fireballs! 529: Pacific Drive (Premium)
Do you love cars? Are you ready to be forced to love a very specific car? That’s what Pacific Drive is all about, you and your car against a bizarre zone of anomalous chaos. It’s not quite horror, and the survival mechanics aren’t everything you’d expect them to be, but this roguelike will challenge you to take care of your station wagon so it will take care of you. It’s just too bad that the story and tone are a shade too cartoony for the gravitas the developers were aiming for.
This is a premi...
Unfilmable 100: Freaks
For the 100th episode of Unfilmable, and our first public episode of the show, we go all the way back to 1932 to talk about Freaks, a pre-code movie that’s often billed as a horror movie but is in reality a surprisingly compassionate morality tale. Cleopatra is a circus performer plotting to seduce and kill Hans, a little person singer, in order to steal his vast inheritance. But the other performers have something to say about that…
This show is public now! Which means give it ratings and reviews and such! Share it!
The Pivot Presents: Cutthroat Kvetchin' 11: Un-Holy Trinity
WHY WILL NO ONE TELL US WHAT THE HOLY TRINITY OF JAMBALAYA IS PUT IT IN THE COMMENTS IF YOU KNOOOOOOW!!!!
Abject Suffering 679: Super Morph
Super Morph is a PAL-only puzzle platformer that’s actually pretty neat. A young boy’s neglectful uncle put him into a matter transporter, and now the boy is trapped in flux between different states of matter. He must solve puzzles to find the gears that will fix the machine so he can return to his normal, human form. There are so many 16-bit PAL-only games we never got!
We also discuss the appeal of going dead weight, asking nicely to see airport jail, establishing situational awareness, acquiring paydata, and the rejection of the Order of the Tria...
Best Quality Vacuum 116: Namaste
When Howard sweeps in to give Jimmy the job offer he's waited more than a decade for, Jimmy has a... paradoxical reaction. Meanwhile Kim, Kim enlists his help with the Acker situation, and Gus sacrifices a lot of money to get the DEA off his back. Also, we argue over whether or not Mike was trying to commit suicide by dude.
The Level 597: Bennis
Kaye, Ben, Dennis, and Jala talk about Low-Budget Repairs, Star Wars: Zero Company, some PAX West experiences, and much more!
The Grind:
Jala: PAX Stories. Shining Force 2.

Kaye: Low-Budget Repairs.
Ben: Marvel Snap.

[PREVIEW] Adaptation Decay 114: The Resident Evil Interactive Experience (Audio Version)
It's time for a very special Adaptation Decay! This August, Gary, Liv, and Kaye packed up and headed to Las Vegas to visit the Resident Evil Interactive Experience, a limited time takeover of Universal Horror Unleashed. Listen to us talk about the scares, the set design, the puzzles, and the food created to honor Resident Evil's 30 year anniversary.
This episode is extra special because we made a video for it, as you can see above! This is a labor of love, because we wanted to capture the experience and relate it to you as we talk about...
Watch Out for Fireballs 528: The Saboteur
Pandemic Studios really knew what they were doing, and it’s a real shame their style of destruction-based open world games didn’t become the norm. That’s how you’ll feel when you play the Saboteur, the studio’s swan song. You are Sean Devlin, an Irish racecar driver who joins the French Resistance during World War II to get revenge on the Nazis. You may only be aware of this game because of its black and white-to-color visual trick, but there’s so much more to recommend it.
Duckfeed is Evolving
Hey folks! This will be a longer post detailing some changes that are coming up for Duckfeed in the next few months. When we ask listeners what they like about the network, they'll often bring up our transparency. It's one of our main values, so that's why we will be providing the rationale for each announcement so you know why we're making the changes.
There will be a TL;DR at the end for those who just want to see what's changing.
Big TL;DR at the top: Nobody's prices are raising. Quite the contrary...
Monster Blitz Pt. 98 OR The One Recorded Above The Oregon State Fair
Sorry this one is shorter than usual; blame Gary's nipple.
Abject Suffering 678: Scooby-Doo Night of 100 Frights!
Some intellectual properties are like PFAS. Once introduced to the environment, they will never go away, just sitting and warping whatever they touch. The Hannah-Barbera archives are a superfund site of these, and no property has stuck around like Scooby-Doo. Night of 100 Frights has the distinction of being a very faithfully created 3D version of something that wasn’t great in the first place, attached to rote 3D platformer gameplay.
We also discuss exercise games, Scooby-Doo honoring the victims of 9/11, and mourning Dolly Parton and Tim Curry.
[PREVIEW] Real Lich Hours 128: NTSB Warehouse
The Ripper strikes again! This time, it’s an unlucky someone down at the National Transportation Safety Board warehouse with a chest cavity full of soup. The problem is, there are no witnesses. At least, there are no corporeal witnesses.

The Grind:
Moxie: Aliens: Fire Team Elite 2.
Dennis: Aliens: Fire Team Elite 2. Stellaris. Star Wars: Zero Company.
Ben: Big Walk. Nordhold.
The Multiplayer:

Best Quality Vacuum 115: The Guy for This
Someone call Powerman 5000 because we’ve found out what it’s like when worlds collide. Following a cartoonish affair last episode, Jimmy’s plot and the cartel plot run straight into each other as Lalo reaches out to Jimmy to help clean up the mess with Krazy-8’s arrest.
Watch Out for Fireballs 527: Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel
We’re running out of Fallout games to cover! Which means we’re scraping the bottom of the barrel to bring you a close look at the memory-holed PS2 and XBox entry into the series: Brotherhood of Steel. It’s a Dark Alliance-like that demonstrates that one of those can actually be a lot worse than the others, and it’s all made worse by how poorly it handles the Fallout setting.
Highlighted project: Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy
The Pivot Presents: Cutthroat Kvetchin' 10: Humble Pie

Abject Suffering 677: Pong: The Next Level

Best Quality Vacuum 114: 50 Percent Off
What harm could deep deep discounts cause? There’s no way they could set off a chain reaction that leads directly or indirectly to the creation of a Heisenberg, right?
Watch Out for Fireballs! Dispatch: Inventory Systems
Uh oh! Both Gary and Kaye have COVID! So please forgive our voices and our absolute flightiness as we answer your questions, read your responses to Ogre Battle 64 and Dispatch, and talk about what makes an inventory system good or bad.

OCTOBER GAMES:

Silent Hill: Townfall
The Pivot Presents: Cutthroat Kvetchin' 9: Kiss My Grits
Everything To Jean Anouilh.
Abject Suffering 676: DJ Boy
DJ Boy is a beat-em-up on roller skates. Roller blades? No, skates. The most hip-hop conveyance imaginable. That’s because this is a game steeped in a very removed Japanese understanding of US hip hop culture, which comes with some extremely uncomfortable racial depictions. Also, it’s time to hear about Kaye’s dental woes instead of Gary’s!
Best Quality Vacuum 113: Magic Man
Season five begins with the (legal) creation of Saul Goodman, an alter ego Jimmy creates for his new law practice that lets him finally step out of his brother’s shadow. But Kim isn’t very happy with this, or Jimmy’s more brazen scheming. Meanwhile, Gus and Mike deal with the aftermath of Werner Ziegler’s escape, and Lalo’s new suspicion about their plans.

The Pivot Presents: Cutthroat Kvetchin' 8: Steak Out
I like candy.
Abject Suffering 675: Balan Wonderworld
Balan Wonderworld is so infamous that sometimes you wonder if it could actually ever be that bad. Chat, it’s very bad. It ranks right behind chronically mistreating his workers on the list of worst things Yuji Naka has ever done. It’s so bad that we remain on topic for the whole episode.
The Level 595: Sallow Snake
Kaye, Ben, Dennis, and Moxie talk about Big Walk, Quasimorph, The Forest, and much more!

Best Quality Vacuum 112: Season 4 Wrap-Up
In this episode we say auf wiedersehen to season 4 by talking about the scant special features and deleted scenes on the DVDs, and we read your responses.
Watch Out for Fireballs 525: Ogre Battle 64 (Part 2)
This week we continue our discussion of Ogre Battle 64, a sprawling and mysterious strategy game that eventually sheds the need for using strategy all together. It’s also a story of revolution that stops being about a revolution partway through. This leaves us in the frustrating position of wanting to like it more than we actually do.
Thanks again Will for executive producing this!
Our highlighted project for this week is the creator Mech Amalia, who reviews Gunpla and plays games on her YouTube channel and Instagram.
The Pivot Presents: Cutthroat Kvetchin' 7: Tiny Tools, Big Problems
I just want to acknowledge that Gary says "Cuck Finn" at one point during this episode and I talked over it and it was very funny.
Abject Suffering 674: Whiplash
Portal didn’t invent the story about the banal cruelty of corporate super science, but it sure did it better than Whiplash. You play a weasel who has a rabbit chained to you, hopping and bopping to try to escape from a laboratory. And while it promises sweet grappling hook action, all it delivers is disappointment. We also talk about Gary’s evolving battle with, and respect for, the Tree of Heaven.
[PREVIEW] Real Lich Hours124: Dead Man's Switch
This week we begin Dead Man’s Switch, the first of the three Shadowrun Returns games. Our runner is at the end of their rope, penniless and without any leads on jobs. Then they get a pre-recorded phone call from a deceased former colleague, promising a life-changing sum of money if they can solve the murder mystery. So, we suit up and head to SeaTac.
Also Discussed:
Essence in Shadowrun
What it means to be SINless
The Level 594: It Hasn't Been Two Hours Yet
Kaye, Ben, Dennis, and Moxie talk about MECCHA CHAMELEON, Project: Mist, The Horror at Highrook, and much more!
The Grind:
Dennis: Far Cry 3.
Ben: Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Promise Mascot Agency. The Horror at Highrook.
Kaye: Desktop Explorer. Project: Mist. MECCHA CHAMELEON.
Moxie: MECCHA CHAMELEON. Nine Sols. Diablo IV.
The Multiplayer:

The End Boss:

Best Quality Vacuum 111: Winner
Whether or not Jimmy actually misses Chuck, or feels bad about what happened between them, is all up for debate. What’s not up for debate is that Jimmy has to put on a big sad smile and stage the biggest display of grief ever. And speaking of grief: we lose Werner Ziegler too soon.
Watch Out For Fireballs 524: Ogre Battles 64 (Part 1)
Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber was a big game that many, including us, missed out on. It’s a followup to a cult classic RTS for the SNES, and it follows Magnus Gallant, a young noble who ends up leading a revolution against his own kingdom. This is a strange game mostly known for its obscure mechanics, but it’s very much in the vein of Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Ogre in its story and presentation.
This episode covers the game’s generalities, the prologue, and the first chapter.
Big thanks to Will for ex...
[PREVIEW] Unfilmable 97: Ghostwatch
On Halloween of 1992, the BBC aired a new broadcast that sent the nation into a panic: real life video evidence of a brutal poltergeist at work. At least, that’s what some people thought, especially children. Ghostwatch was fictional, and they said so, but it was so well-done that it remained controversial. This episode has us diving into a cultural phenomenon that we were completely unaware of, though we’ve absolutely loved the things it’s influenced.
Join us next time for an episode on The Blair Witch Project.
The Pivot Presents: Cutthroat Kvetchin' 6: Wing It
We're back, baby! The chefs in this one are terrible.
Abject Suffering 673: Flix and Chill 2 Millennials
We understand why you all voted for Flix and Chill 2: Millennials in our episode poll. Look at that title. Little did you know that it’s also a viciously uninteresting adventure game in the guise of a dating sim. Millennials are strange birds, we are led to believe. Also, Kaye invents a fun new game to play with your friends.
Real Lich Hours 123: Shadowrun Primer
Step it up, chummer, we’ve got a whole new season of Real Lich Hours for ya. That’s right, we’re beginning our coverage of the Shadowrun Returns trilogy of games!
But before we get into those, we want to give a little bit of a history an overview of Shadowrun itself, a long-running cyberpunk fantasy tabletop game with amazing lore and obtuse mechanics.
