Will Echoles rushed the passer 17 times against Florida and produced ZERO pressures, seven days after posting 7 pressures and a sack on the exact same 54 snaps — and the unit around him managed six total pressures and no sacks on roughly 112 pass-rush snaps. Ole Miss plays a 4-2-5 built for spread offenses. Florida played 12 and 13 personnel, made extra gaps outside and attacked Blake Purchase and Suntarine Perkins — a linebacker essentially playing the other end. Wade: "If I was the Florida offensive coordinator, I would have done exactly the same thing." He called it indefendable.

A Finebaum caller named this show, named the host, called Pete Golding a clown, and made exactly one checkable claim: that Golding couldn't get a pass rush with Will Anderson and Dallas Turner. That's the wrong hill. Will Anderson played three seasons in Golding's defense — 7.0 sacks in 2020, then 17.5 sacks and 34.5 tackles for loss in 2021, then 10.0 more in 2022 — and won back-to-back Nagurski Trophies, back-to-back SEC Defensive Player of the Year awards and two unanimous All-American selections doing it. Dallas Turner's breakout was 2023, after Golding had already left for Oxford.

Everybody watching the Florida tape decided Ole Miss has a talent problem on defense. Bill Flowers says that's the wrong read. His argument is structural and it is specific: you cannot fit an SEC power running game with two linebackers on the field. Go to a 4-3, put a third body in the box, simplify the calls, and let athletes who are currently thinking instead go play. He kept calling himself an armchair quarterback while making the most concrete defensive argument anyone has made on this show all season.

He committed to Ole Miss on October 5 — he committed to Lane Kiffin — and when Kiffin left for LSU, Georgia came, Kentucky came, Indiana came, and a 17-year-old with offers from Penn State, Michigan, Miami and Oregon never reopened it. The 27-of-35 for 531 yards and seven touchdowns is real. The part that tells you something about this program is that he stayed.
