A healthy squad, and other Media Day takeaways
A healthy squad, and other Media Day takeaways episode artwork
Last Tuesday at 4:07 PM

The update from Grizzlies' media day was that Zach Edey is a full-go (mostly) and there were no other major injuries to report, which is a pleasant change from previous years. That means, however, that training camp in Nashville will be a fierce competition as the team must cut several guaranteed deals to get down to 15 by opening night.

But the players are excited and ready for the opportunity, as they told the media in Memphis on Monday. They talked about their season goals, their thoughts on rebuilding, defying expectations, and what they've seen already from Cam Boozer.

The Grizzlies acquire Jordan Hawkins, Micah Peavy and picks for Taj GIbson and AJ Johnson

09/08/2026

The Grizzlies picked up a 2nd round pick and a 2nd round pick swap from the New Pelicans in exchange for taking on the contracts of Jordan Hawkins and Micah Peavy. To match the salary, the Grizzlies included Taj Gibson and AJ Johnson, two players who were unlikely to make their opening night roster.

This move clears the way for the Pelicans to complete their signing of Bennedict Mathurin, and provides the Grizzlies some draft capital for taking on money. It also possibly further compounds the Grizzlies roster crunch ahead of training camp and a final cutdown to 15...

The Grizzlies may have a relatively deep squad, but are considered to have very little top end NBA talent. They will be depending a lot on Cam Boozer, Cedric Coward and Zach Edey to lead the way.
