Episode 113 - Chopping Mall
#113

Chopping Mall isn't a forgotten film, if anything it's the opposite - it came out to little fanfare and only grew in reputation since! But I wanted to talk about it anyway and so did Madeleine Koestner, so we did.

We also talked about what stores we'd want to have sex in in a shopping mall, what the third best exploding head in film history is, and the complexities of ductwork.

Episode 112: Pretty Maids All in a Row
#112
09/29/2026

Pretty Maids All in a Row is a 1971 comedy about a serial killer at a high school and statutory sexual assault, starring Rock Hudson and Angie Dickinson, written and produced by Gene Roddenberry, the creator of Star Trek.

Yes. This is a real movie. That's whose in it, and that's who made it. Diamond Feit bravely joins me to dive into the minefield of a movie that, while I find immensely entertaining and enthralling, has aged terribly and may have shone just a bit too much light into the somewhat askew mind of one of the most...

Episode 111: Stone Cold (1991)
#111
08/24/2026

After Brian Bosworth's NFL much ballyhooed NFL career went bust, The Boz turned to acting with this over-the-top, insane, masterpiece of excess, Stone Cold. Is it good? Eh, not really. But is it amazing?!?! Hell yeah.

Anthony Abatte joins me to talk bikers, explosions, mullets, explosions, and then more explosions.

This movie has a lot of explosions.

Episode 110: The Hunted (1995)
#110
07/31/2026

Christopher Lambert travels to Japan, meets a beautiful woman, gets involved with modern day ninjas, lots of people die, but not much happens in The Hunted, another entry in the "stupid foreigner finds himself over his head with Japanese ninjas and/or samurai" sub-genre.

Diamond Feit, a fellow American living in Japan (who I assume has never run afoul of ancient ninja cults) joins me to discuss this very odd movie. Where the star/hero barely does a damn thing while ninja descend from the skies to murder everyone around him.

Sadly, it's not as g...

Episode 109: Framed (1975)
#109
06/22/2026

Joe Don Baker is framed (duh) for a crime he didn't commit, so he commits several violent crimes to find out who set him up and why in this sleazy, sweaty, brutal southern-fried exploitation classic that features some of the most violent fights and craziest stunts you've ever seen.

Anthony Abatte joins me to talk about this underseen gem, and we also go over our recent obsessions with James Bond and Dirty Harry movies.

Content Warning for sexual assault discussion: One of the people who wrote Framed did some extremely unpleasant things, and we discuss...

Episode 108: A Quick Guide to Hammer 4K Releases
#108
04/29/2026

Hammer Films have been releasing a ton of stuff in 4K recently, so much that it's actually a little bit overwhelming. In today's episode, I go over all their 4K releases to date (that I know of) and recommend some lesser-known titles, as well as the obvious classics. I also point out the few that are so bad you should avoid them like the zombies in Plague of the Zombies (which is not yet available in 4K, sadly).

Episode 107: Superlaitve Cinema Backdoor Pilot - Most/Best/Worst Schwarzenegger Movies
#107
03/30/2026

Today we're tying something different! Diamond Feit joins me once more and they help me decide what we feel are the best, worst, and "most" Arnold films (as well as the most underrated). This is an idea I've been kicking around for a while, and I thought I'd give it a try this month, as I've been too sick to properly do my deep dive research on an obscure film.

Let me know what you think!

I also use this episode to go over my health issues, for those who are worried, and that's covered...

Episode 106: The Ambulance
#106
02/28/2026

LARRY COHEN WAS A MADMAN and Madeleine Koestner is here to talk about one of his most unhinged films, 1990's The Ambulance. Eric Roberts! James Earl Jones! An ambulance that hands out in a nightclub! You've never seen anything like this one.

We also complain about Geese. The band, not the animal - although too be honest I'm not a fan of either.

Episode 105: Candy Snatchers
#105
01/31/2026

Shane Bettenhausen returns to Cinema Oblivia to talk about Candy Snatchers, one of the gnarliest, nastiest, grimiest, most hateful movies of the grindhouse era. Seriously, this one has all the ick. You've been warned! Also, some talk about the future of this podcast, or lack thereof!

Content Warning: Seriously, Candy Snatchers is a messed up film with graphic portrayals of sexual assault, allusions to child abuse, and some unflattering portrayals of children with autism. You've been really warned.

Episode 104: What We Watched in 2025
#104
12/29/2025

Vampires! Spies! David Byrne! Gangsters! Beavers upon Beavers! Japanese bankrobbers! Chainsaw Man! Joan Crawford! Cher looking more amazing than anyone else who ever lived!

Anthony Abatte and I run down some of the best, worst, weirdest, and craziest movies that we saw this year. I hope you finish this episode with 20 or so movies you want to see next year!

Episode 103: Warlords of Atlantis
#103
11/24/2025

While Warlords of Atlantis might look like just another silly late-70s adventure film that was instantly dated the second it came out thanks to Star Wars, there's actually a lot going on with this crazy movie. And it happens to star ONE OF THE BIGGEST BOX-OFFICE STARS OF ALL-TIME (really!) It also has Doug McClure. You might remember him.

Anthony Abatte returns to the podcast to talk about this, man. It goes places.

Episode 102: Forgotten TV with Michael Darling and Drew Mackie
#102
10/31/2025

In the past I used to write about forgotten music on my blog, and now I talk about forgotten and obscure movies, but I rarely talk about the forgotten obscurities of TV.

But recently, I watched Michael Darling's amazing YouTube videos covering sitcoms and dramas that primetime forgot, and I felt compelled to bring him on the show to cover how he made these amazing feature-length TV mixtapes. And since I'm no TV expert, I also asked Gayest Episode Ever's Drew Mackie to join me as well!

Episode 101: Buster
#101
09/30/2025

When people thing big pop stars of the 1980s, they think Michael Jackson, Madonna and Prince. And they should. BUT THEY SHOULD ALSO THINK OF PHIL COLLINS.

Phil Collins was so huge in the 1980s that, just like those other pop stars, he got his own movie - Buster, a true-crime caper/romantic drama/period piece that came and went in five minutes, but not before starting some serious controversy in the UK.

The internet's number one Phil Collins fan, Jeremy Parish and fellow prog aficionado Elliot Long join me to talk about the film...

Episode 100: The Naked Cage (1986)
#100
08/26/2025

Anthony Abatte returns for my 100th episode! To celebrate this momentous occasion, we discuss a women in prison film from the mid-80s. But not just any women in prison film, we're here to talk about The Naked Cage, perhaps one of the sleaziest, trashiest, nastiest films Cannon ever released (and that's saying something)!

Content warning: This is a women in prison film, so expect discussions about scenes that feature sexual assault, unflattering LGBTQ stereotypes, violence against women, and so on. Also, some iffy racial politics and racial slurs.

Episode 99: The Best Of Peter Cushing (and some of the worst)
#99
07/29/2025

Anyone who listens to this podcast knows that I love me some Peter Cushing, so I thought I would take some time to rattle off 20 or so Peter Cushing films that I feel are absolute must-sees, and three that you should avoid like a zombie plague.

Episode 98: Heavenly Bodies (and its amazing soundtrack)
#98
06/25/2025

Heavenly Bodies is blatant low-budget Canadian rip-off of Flashdance that completely bombed when it came out. It's gone on to have a dedicated cult following because it is, quite frankly, one of the lightest, happiest, most energetic and delightful films ever made. And it has a banger of a soundtrack that almost never stops. Anthony Abatte and I talk about this charming as hell movie, and do a deep dive on every single song and musical artist that appear in the film. (That's why this episode is over two hours long.)

Episode 97: American Gothic (1987)
#97
05/20/2025

Madeleine Koestner returns to Cinema Oblivia to talk about American Gothic, a supremely gnarly late-80s hidden gem of a slasher about a seriously dysfunctional family and the idiots yuppies they decide to slay.

Content Warning: We discuss fictional depictions of graphic sexual assault, and considering the tone of this film, our tone is certainly not serious when doing so.

Episode 96: The Challenge (1982)
#96
04/29/2025

The Challenge, directed by John Frankenheimer and starring Scott Glenn, is not the greatest film in the world. It was certainly not the greatest film to come out in 1982, but it's about a giant white dipshit living in Japan and making an ass of himself. And as a giant white dipshit who lives in Japan who routinely makes an ass of himself, I felt seen. Although I've killed far less people than Scott Glenn does in this movie (at least, so far).

Fellow American in Japan Diamond Feit joins me to talk about this very silly film.<...

Episode 95: The Bees (1978)
#95
03/25/2025

Last month it was Ant with Anthony Abatte. This month it's Bees...with Anthony Abatte...because I don't know anyone whose name is Bee.

You've never seen a killer bees movie like The Bees. Believe you me. In a time of great strife and war, the themes of unity and togetherness that are touched upon in The Bees should inspire us all to make the world a better place.

And John Saxon. John Saxon is great (and oddly attractive).

Episode 94: Ants (It Happened At Lakewood Manor)
#94
02/19/2025

ANThony Abatte joins me once more to discuss this ANTagonistic film about killer ants. It's real great bad movie, even if the ending is really ANTiclmatic.

Sorry. (No I'm not).

Episode 93: The Quiet Earth
#93
01/28/2025

Ever wish that every other person on the planet would vanish in a puff of smoke? Feeling that way more than usual lately? So have I! And so has Scott Sharkey, who wanders in from the wastelands to talk about The Quiet Earth, the hugely influential New Zealand classic about what it would be like to be the literal last man on Earth (and then suddenly not be).

Episode 92: Obscure Movie Recommendations
#92
12/31/2024

We're closing out this year at Cinema Oblivia by offering a virtual smorgasbord of lesser-known film recommendations. Diamond Feit joins me once ore as we browse the absolute depths of Letterboxd to find the weirdest, most out-there, and criminally under-seen films we've watched, as well as our picks for the best movies we've seen this year!

Episode 91: Rolling Vengeance
#91
12/03/2024

Depressed over the current state of the world? Have you considered using a monster truck to solve your problems?

Diamond Feit and Anthony Abatte join me to talk about Rolling Vengeance, the world's only monster truck revenge movie. Yes, it is Canadian. And it rules.

Episode 90: Halloween Horror Recommendations
#90
10/23/2024

It's nearly Halloween so I thought I'd meet with Joe & Rob from Caliber 9 From Outer Space to share some recommendations for spookytime movie watching. Whether you're into actually scary movies, gory movies, or just silly goofy movies with a horror bent, we got something for you in this episode.

And stay tuned at the end to hear which presidential candidate earns the coveted official Cinema Oblivia endorsement!

Episode 89: I'm Gonna Git You Sucka!
#89
10/07/2024

DON'T YOU SAY THAT.

Emmett Watkins Jr. returns to the podcast to talk about this wacky Blaxploitation spoof that helped to launch the Wayans family empire. We had a lot to say about this one, it may be my longest episode yet! We also talk about its lesser-known sequel/spin-off (yes, really!) and another attempt at Blaxsploitation homage that did not work nearly as well, Original Gangstas.

Episode 88: Vampire Circus
#88
09/16/2024

What's more terrifying than a circus full of clowns? A circus full of vampires!

Joe Odber from the Caliber 9 From Outer Space podcast returns to Cinema Oblivia to talk about Vampire Circus, a 1970s Hammer horror flick that's oddly disturbing when compared to their other flicks featured fanged villain. Slight content warning on this one, there is some icky stuff in this one!

Episode 87: Catch The Heat
#87
08/13/2024

Anthony Abatte joins me once again to talk about Catch The Heat, an utterly forgotten late-80s B-grade action flick written by Sterling Silliphant and starring his wife Tiana Alexandra. It's a mess! But it's a charming mess. When it's not throwing out really bad racial slurs in its attempt to criticize racism.

Yeah, um, content warning on this one.

Episode 86: Mr. Jolly Lives Next Door
#86
07/09/2024

Rob Hill of the Bad Movie Bible returns with possibly the most British thing I have ever seen in my entire life. If you've never seen Mr. Jolly Lives Next Door, for God's sake go on YouTube right now and watch Mr. Jolly Lives Next Door, it's only 53 minutes long! Then come back and listen to us laugh about Mr. Jolly Lives Next Door for over 90 minutes.

Episode 85: Tea For Two
#85
06/19/2024

Doris Day makes her long-awaited debut on Cinema Oblivia!

I put together this episode with Anthony Abatte and Diamond Feit because I wanted to introduce them to the wonderful world of Doris Day. And while we did that, I think we spent even more time talking about the amazing wit of Eve Arden and the inhuman dancing of Gene Nelson!

Episode 84: A Brief Guide to Lesser Known Charles Bronson Movies
#84
06/03/2024

I've been unable to record lately due to my ever-so-fun health issues, so I thought I'd throw together this quick episode going over the multitude of Charles Bronson films I've seen recently. There are a lot, and most of them aren't the first flicks people think of when they think of Bronson. Lots of fun movies here, I hope you come away from this with some movies you want to check out!

Episode 83: Species II
#83
05/02/2024

It's the goopiest episode of Cinema Oblivia yet! Is Species II an unfairly maligned sequel? Madeleine Koestner thinks so, and she makes her case that this movie has a bad rep that is, well, at least partially unjustified. I mean, let's not get crazy here.

Episode 82: Batman & Robin
#82
04/14/2024

Last week I watched Batman & Robin for the first time and I unironically loved it so much. Seriously, I think it's an amazing movie and maybe the best Batman movie ever made.

I needed to talk to someone about it! Thankfully, superhero movie aficionado and Batman superfan Anthony Abatte was able to join me to offer a more sane opinion on the film. We also talk about other films where our opinions deviate from the norm, sometimes we all have really out-there opinions!

Episode 81: Murder on Flight 502 and SST: Death Flight
#81
03/31/2024

Diamond Feit and I cannot stop talking about 1970s plane disaster TV movies! We're back with two more, the ludicrous Murder on Flight 502 and the absolutely bonkers SST: Death Flight!

We, as a culture, lost something when we stopped making star-studded TV movies, I tell ya.

Episode 80: The Horror at 37,000 Feet & Mayday at 40,000 Feet
#80
03/08/2024

The 70s were rife with TV movies about bad things happening on planes, and we're talking about two of them today! Diamond Feit joins me to talk about William Shatner, ghost druids, Marjoe Gortner, drunk doctors, Christopher George, and more!

Episode 79: The Last Stand
#79
02/16/2024

I'm back! And I brought Anthony Abatte with me so we could talk about The Last Stand, a movie starring one of the biggest movie stars of all time (Arnold Schwarzenegger) that only came out 11 years ago, but has somehow managed to be completely forgotten. Which is a shame because while it ain't high art by any stretch of the imagination, it's damn good.

Episode 78: I watched 34 movies in 14 days and all I got was this lousy virus
#78
01/14/2024

Hey everyone! I'm still here!

Covid sucks, don't get it. It (and other things) are keeping me from recording a proper episode this month, so I thought I'd record this mini non-episode to let you all know what's going on, and rattle off the 30+ movies I've watched in 14 or so days.

I had a lot of down time.

Episode 77: The Italian Connection
#77
12/12/2023

Italian cinema fanatic Joe Odber is back to talk about The Italian Connection, a classic Italian crime flick about a pimp who is having a very bad day. It was also a major influence on Pulp Fiction, features a dope as hell score, and 70s lapels galore. It's fantastic.

Episode 76: Devil Story
#76
11/09/2023

Okay so there's a pig zombie monster wearing a Nazi jacket. And some kind of zombie lady? There's definitely a ghost horse and a shotgun with infinite ammo. But where does the mummy fit into all of this?

Madeleine Koestner returns to try and help me digest one of the most inscrutably bad(?) movies ever made, Devil Story.

We also delve into what we think makes an honest-to-goodness worst movie ever made, and why many people's picks for the worst movie of all-time are bullshit.

Episode 75: Body Double
#75
10/20/2023

In what might the be sleaziest episode of Cinema Oblivia yet, Diamond Feit returns to talk about De Palma's Hitchcockian thriller Body Double, one of the most ludicrously horny films ever made. It puts the 'cock' in 'Hitchcockian.'

It's also the greatest film ever made that incorporates a Frankie Goes to Hollywood video in its narrative. And before you ask, yes there is another. No, I won't tell you what it is.

Content warning: Lots of ribald sex talk in this one.

Episode 74: Comfort Movies
#74
09/28/2023

Since the last episode of Cinema Oblivia, my boyfriend got Covid, I flew to America, landed myself in the ER and [redacted personal drama]. Basically, it's been a hell of a month, so I felt like talking about movies that cheer me up. Anthony Abatte joins me to discuss his comfort films, what we feel makes a good comfort film, and our go-to emergency "cheer someone up" flicks.
