Jesus Read the Scriptures

In the Nazareth synagogue, Jesus read from the prophet Isaiah. He told the people that the prophet’s words were fulfilled in Him. This session will emphasize that Jesus taught that He is the Messiah that was promised in the Old Testament.


Prophets Told About Jesus

This session will emphasize that the Bible tells about God’s plan to send Jesus to be the Savior. We can help kids understand that the prophets told about Jesus’ birth hundreds of years before Jesus came. God planned to send the Messiah, His Son, and told that the special child would be born. The prophets wrote this message, and people waited for the Messiah.


Ezekiel Offered Hope; Daniel Prayed (Babies-2s)

This session will emphasize that God’s words are always true and right. We can have hope because the truths in the Bible will never change. God always does what He says He will do! The Bible can be trusted. Hope is knowing that God keeps His promises! Hope in God is waiting for something that is certain.

Babies-2s: This session will teach the little ones about prayer. They will learn that the Bible teaches about praying to God. 


God Told Jeremiah What to Write

All the books in the Bible were written under the inspiration of God and the guidance of His Spirit. The story in Jeremiah shows a direct instance of God telling someone to write down His words. This session will lead kids to understand that all of the Bible was inspired by God and that the Bible is the only written Word of God.


God Gave the Ten Commandments

God is holy and demands our worship, reverence, and obedience. This session will lead kids to know that the there is no one like God. The Bible is God’s message to people. The words of the Bible are God’s words that tell about Himself and show us how to live.


God Provided for the People

When the people needed food or water in the wilderness, God provided. He acted in powerful ways to give the people what they needed. This session will stress that God loves and cares for people today and also helps people have what they need to live.


God Chose Moses

Moses saw a miraculous thing—the burning bush that was not consumed. God spoke to Moses, telling him that God knew what was happening to His people and was sending Moses to free them from Egypt. The Israelites’ exodus from Egypt and the crossing of the Red Sea show God’s power in many different ways. This session will emphasize that God worked in mighty ways to save His people. We can help kids know that God continues to work in mighty ways today, ways we may not even recognize.


God Protected Moses

This session will focus on the fact that God is all-knowing and in control of all things. God had a plan for Moses that could not be stopped. God is in control, and His plans will prevail.

Kids: Jesus taught that He would die and be resurrected. Then He would return to heaven, but one day He will return. At that time He will rule over the new creation. This session will focus on Jesus’ promise to return and that no one knows when that will be except God.

Kids: Jesus used parables to teach. These three parables feature things that are lost but then found. Jesus taught about God’s love and joy when a sinner comes to Him. This session will help kids know that God’s love was a key topic in Jesus’ teaching.  

Preschool: As Jesus taught the people, He used stories and parables. This session will help kids understand that Jesus used these stories to help people know more about God and to know more about how God wants them to live.  


Jesus Taught How to Serve

Jesus washed the disciples’ feet, the act usually reserved for the lowest servant. Jesus told His disciples that He was giving an example of serving others. This session will help kids know that Jesus calls His followers to serve others. Through acts of service, people can follow Jesus’ example.


Jesus Taught How to Pray

Jesus taught His disciples how to pray. While He gave a Model Prayer, He emphasized that the heart and focus were more important than the words. The attitude and motivation of the one praying is important. Prayer should be more on focusing on God and not on needs of the person. This session includes opportunities for kids to pray during the session.

Kids: Jesus’ disciples tried to understand what He was teaching. Jesus taught that God wants people to go beyond the letter of the law and live in ways that show a change of heart. This session will help kids understand that Jesus taught that forgiveness should be given freely and often, just as God continues to forgive us.

Preschool: In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus taught that God’s people should trust and not worry. Help kids learn that God knows what people need and He will help meet their needs.


A Couple Helped Elisha

A family’s love and care should extend beyond the home. The story focuses on a family helping provide Elisha a place to stay. They thought about what Elisha needed and worked together to help him. This session will provide opportunities for kids to think about how and why their families should help others—because God loves everyone.


Hannah’s Family Worshiped God

Families can worship together, read the Bible together, and pray together. A child has no control over what parents do, so do not stress that all families should do one thing or another. This session will help kids realize that worshiping and praying together are ways family members (or others) help them. Help kids realize that, if they are Christians, they can live in ways that worship God even if other family members do not—and that other family members can learn about God from them (the kids).


Joseph Forgave His Brothers

This session will emphasize that Joseph, a man who had a lot of power, chose to show love and care for his brothers and forgive them. Family members should be ready to ask for or give forgiveness when wrongs happen. Forgiving family members is a reflection of the forgiveness God gives. Help kids think about situations that may lead to asking for forgiveness within families.

Kids: Paul faced dangers and angry people as he told about Jesus. Missionaries may face dangerous situations as they tell about Jesus. Christians in any community may have challenges as they tell about Jesus. This session will help kids realize that God wants people to tell the good news about Jesus, even when it is difficult.

Preschool: Paul wrote letters to Timothy to remind him of important work. This session will lead kids to think about who helps them know more about Jesus (at church, home, etc.). Also, lead them to think about people in their communities...

Aquila and Priscilla worked with Paul to tell about Jesus. Later, the couple encountered Apollos and knew that he needed to know more about Jesus. People need to learn what it means to be a believer in Jesus. Christians need to know what God wants them to do. Listening to other Christians and reading the Bible helps people know how to live as believers.

Paul told the men in Athens about God, the only true God. Christians are commissioned by God to help all people hear the gospel. While not every person can travel to another place, Christians can pray and support missionaries who travel to unreached groups. This session will help kids understand that when someone becomes a Christian, he should tell others about God and Jesus.


Paul and Silas Praised God

Paul and Silas were inprisoned while in Philippi. They knew God was with them and they continued to praise God and tell others about Jesus even in their difficult circumstances. Missionaries rely on God’s Holy Spirit to help them as they work to tell about Jesus. The Holy Spirit also helps people in churches tell about Jesus to the people in their communities.

God said to set apart Saul (Paul) and Barnabas for His special work. This session will lead kids to know that some people today are called by God to leave their homes and go to other places to tell about Jesus. Jesus saw the widow’s “small” gift among the other gifts dropped into the offering boxes. He noted that her gift was all she had. Jesus taught that giving should represent worship and honor to God, reflecting the giver’s heart. Giving offerings is an act of worship. Giving offerings also supports the work of God in the church and around the world. This session will help kids understand that giving money, food, etc. are important parts of worship and working for God. Also, help them understand that offerings include time and talents - other ways to support God’s work.

Kids: Worship is responding to God and what He has done. Isaiah was worshiping and had an experience with God. Isaiah responded and wanted to do whatever God told him to do. When people worship God, they should be open to hearing and learning from Him. This session will help kids understand that worship is more than just coming to church or doing certain things. Two Men on the Road to Emmaus

Jesus’ death and resurrection fulfilled the promises of God. Prophets wrote about what would happen, and Jesus fulfilled those prophecies. On the road to Emmaus, Jesus used the Scriptures to show the two disciples that He is the Messiah. All the law and prophets are fulfilled in Jesus.

This session will focus on the resurrection of Jesus. We can help kids think about Easter, the time we celebrate that Jesus is alive and thank God for what Jesus did. The crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus is the center of the gospel. We deserve to die because of our sin, but Jesus died in our place. God was pleased with Jesus’ sacrifice and raised Jesus from the dead to reign as King over all creation. We are forgiven only through Jesus.

Jesus, God’s Son, came to be the Messiah and the Savior. Prophets wrote about what would happen, and Jesus fulfilled those prophecies. The way He entered Jerusalem fulfilled prophecy. When the people praised Him, they used words that reflected the promise of the Messiah. This session will emphasize to the kids that what was written in the law and by the prophets was fulfilled in Jesus’ life and death.

In His final supper with the disciples, Jesus explained God’s plan of salvation—that Jesus would die as punishment for sins. The disciples did not understand it at the time, but later they continued the practice of remembering Jesus’ death and payment for sin through the Lord’s Supper. This session will guide kids to understand that Christians today continue to remember Jesus’ sacrifice through observance of the Lord’s Supper in their churches.

Peter wrote that the message of Jesus is not myths and legends. The message preached is from those who witnessed what Jesus did. In addition, the prophetic word is not from men but from God through the Holy Spirit. This session will help children know that the words in the Bible were inspired by God and were written by those led by the Holy Spirit to write them.

The Holy Spirit led Philip to the desert road. Philip met a God-fearing Ethiopian who was reading the prophet Isaiah. The Ethiopian was reading prophecies of Jesus! Philip told the good news of Jesus, and the Ethiopian believed! This session will lead kids to understand the role of the Holy Spirit and the use of God's Word, the Bible, in the Ethiopian’s conversion. Nehemiah led the people to rebuild the wall. Even when they faced opposition, they chose to focus on their task and not retaliate against their detractors. Often people have conflicts and look for ways to hurt others, both physically and in other ways. Nehemiah protected his people but did not seek ways to injure the other kings. This session will guide kids to think about how they can respond to others in right ways.

Kids: God chose Samson before his birth. Examining Samson’s life, kids can see the different choices he made. Samson chose to treat people with revenge and anger. This session will lead kids to understand that God’s people should respond in ways that honor God.

Kids: David’s men had treated Nabal’s men with kindness. Later, Nabal refused to give food to David’s men.
