The Daily Breadcast
Why is Jesus such a controversial topic? The life of Jesus, as some believe, was primarily a life of doing good to all. Let's discuss some Jesus!
Better to Have it and Not Need it...

The Trumpets - Victory (#7)
With the breaking of the 7th seal, there are 7 angels, and 7 trumpets were given to them (one each). There’s something about Revelation and the number 7!
Trumpets were used in various ways back in the OT. They were used to warn, to summon armies, to call an assembly, etc. (Joel 2:15; Ezek. 33:3). What’s interesting with these trumpets are their similarities to the plagues of Egypt.
In verse 7 the first four trumpets are blown, and with them come judgment upon the earth. We see the calamities on the earth – on the land, sea, waters, and even universe...
Love One Another - Walk with the Lord Series (No.11)
“Jesus said, ‘A new commandment I give unto you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another’ ” (John 13:34-35).
What Jesus taught was revolutionary. His revolutionary teaching didn’t overthrow a political system, but He did turn the spiritual world upside down.

Hope - Victory (#6)
The purpose of Revelation 7 was to fill the faithful with courage to endure the sufferings which were about to strike the earth. In the previous chapter the believers, who were already martyred for their faith, cried out to God asking, “How long until you judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” (6:10). God answers that question by the opening of the six seals which lock tight the revelation of God’s plan for the earth. The first four seals show God positioning His instruments in place to execute His judgment on the wicked. Then in the sixth...
Are you a Good Person or a Bad Person?
This question comes from the 3rd Equalizer movie with Denzel Washington. He is being healed of a gunshot wound and the man attending to him asks him this question.
Romans 3:10-12 Paul quoting from the Old Testament…
Ecclesiastes 7:20 - “For there is not a just man on earth who does good And does not sin.”
Psalm 14:3 - “They have all turned aside, They have together become corrupt; There is none who does good, No, not one.”
Jesus says in Mark 10:18, “So Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good...
The Breaking of the 1st 6 Seals - Victory (#5)
In chapter 5 we read of the Lamb taking the sealed scroll from the One on the throne (5:7). Chapter 6 opens with the Lamb breaking the seals. When the first four seals are broken we see 4 horses carrying riders (6:1-8). The images of horses takes us back to the prophecy of Zechariah (Zech. 1:8-10; 6:1-7). However there are some differences between the horses of Zechariah’s prophecy, and the horses read of here in Revelation.

Why Worry? - Walk with the Lord Series (No.10)
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God” (Philippians 4:6)
Worry can literally eat our lunch! When our hearts are filled with worry, we cannot do enough. At night we worry that everything we’ve done will fall apart. We replay those conversations in our heads to find how we could have been misunderstood...

Kindness - Christian Character
I was recently asked the statement and follow up question:
It is often the case that people will display more kindness and patience toward strangers than with members of their own family. Why it can be challenging to display Christian character at home and what we can/should do about it?
I think it’s the fact that those who know us the most/best, the closest to us are the most knowledgeable of our bad habits or tendencies, therefore they feel they have the right/authority to condescend or judge or ma...
The Throne - Victory (#4)
The book of Revelation begins with the words, “The Revelation Of Jesus Christ.” The book was given to allow God’s people to look behind the scenes. They were going through terrible persecution for their faith. Did God know? Was He planning to do something about it?
John responds, “Yes, God knows, and He is going to do something about your situation soon.” That news gave theseChristians great comfort. And, it gives us great comfort to know that our God knows about our needs and is working to bring about His will.

Essentials for Salvation
The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are all active in our salvation. They had to do certain things for us to be saved. Consider some things that were necessary on God's part for us to be saved:
“Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies.” Romans 8:33 “Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.” Hebrews 7:25 “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”” Acts 4:12“An...7 Letters to 7 Churches - Victory (#3)
Do you get a lot of mail? Do you get letters from family, friends? Typically what fills my mailbox is bills and ads. Imagine with me – today Rickie goes outside to the mailbox outside of the church building, and in our mailbox is a letter addressed to the church at Campbell Road – a letter written from Jesus. In the letter He shares with us what He sees in this church – the things done well, the areas of weakness, the encouragement for the future. What would His letter say?

Perspective - Walk with the Lord Series (No.9)
“And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us” (Romans 3:3-5).
Isn’t life largely about perspective? If we see people and painful situations as threats, those threats imprison our hearts. We can languish for days, even weeks longing for the problems or people to just go away. We often end up frantically trying to get out any way we can...
Christian Character
What section of Scripture you find most meaningful in defining Christian character and why?
It’s incredibly hard to choose just one.
When I opened up my Bible to begin answering this question, I, without flipping any pages, opened up to 1 Peter 2:14 which the two pages covers through 5:10. No one person or text defines Christian character exhaustively, not even the accounts of Jesus in the gospels, but the collective of the New Testament scriptures is where we get the comprehensiveness that is Christian character. So, when I opened up to the first epistle of Peter, I took...
Jesus: Alpha & Omega - Victory (#2)
Jesus is introduced as Prince who came to the earth, Ruler, Redeemer who loosed us from our sins by His blood. Revealed by our God who is said to be the Alpha and Omega. This is to people who believe He is the Alpha. He began this process. He is God Who became flesh and came into this world.
But the thing these people of God want to know is, will He be the Omega. The One who had been there at the beginning will He be there when it is all over? He was there when a...

Rejoice - A Very Ritchie Series (No.50)
Such an encouraging word, rejoice. The word sounds wrong if you don’t say it with a lilt in the tone of your voice. Rejoice! I believe the quintessential scripture on what it means to rejoice is found in Philippians 4:4-7 where Paul begins, “Rejoice in the Lord always, again I say Rejoice.” What follows is an instruction manual in the mindset of a rejoicing Saint.
The predicate statement is that we should be constantly rejoicing. In our relationship with God. In our relationship with others. In the blessings God provides.

Kindness & Encouragement - Walk with the Lord Series (No.8)
Kindness and encouragement go a long way in helping every kind of relationship. More importantly, love is kind and kindness is a fruit of the spirit (1Cor. 13:4; Gal. 5:22). The emphasis is that we can tell the character and heart in a person by how kind they are. We can tell the Holy Spirit is in them when we see the fruit of the spirit.

One Day at a Time - A Very Ritchie Series (No.49)
Contentment is disturbed because our plans are broken. The family brings home a friend or additional family pops in for dinner. The vacation is busted when our flight is cancelled. You are deep in work, focused upon the task at hand and someone taps you on the shoulder and says, “by the way…” as you jump out of your skin from being startled. Life is moving according to plan, then your employer eliminates your position, you are unemployed. So many ways our contentment can be undermined, altered, ruined. How do we handle these intrusions?

Glory or Shame - Wise vs. Foolish (#4)
“The wise shall inherit glory, But shame shall be the legacy of fools.”
Proverbs 3:35 (NKJV)
One of the great realities of life is that every person is moving toward a destination. We are all becoming something. Day by day, choice by choice, habit by habit, we are building a life that will eventually produce either honor or regret, glory or shame. That is the simple but powerful truth found in Proverbs 3:35: “The wise shall inherit glory, But shame shall be the legacy of fools.” Solomon is not merely talking about what happens at the end of life...

The wind was howling, really howling. The snow was falling so fast that when I turned back to look where I had been, there were no tracks. I had been skiing most of the morning doing well, but as the day progressed, the conditions deteriorated. This was a full-on blizzard! I had not planned well. I only brought a pair of sunglasses, no goggles. My glasses froze over and became useless as the temperatures dropped. I thought to myself, “how am I going to find the way down, I can’t see a thing.” Through squinting eyes and the stinging snow...
Purpose - Walk with the Lord Series (No.7)
Life has to be more than just work; surely we have a greater purpose in life. It has been said, “We play at our work and work at our play.” But surely life is more than work and play.
Flawed is the thinking that our greater purpose is to solve the world’s problems, eliminate terrorism, or feed and clothe all the hungry. Noble though they may be, there is a greater purpose. It can be found right under our noses, and that purpose will provide fuel for a meaningful life.

Wisdom is from God - Wise vs. Foolish (#3)

Book, Chapter and Verse - A Very Ritchie Series (No.47)
How many times have you heard that line? For those who are older, likely you heard it a lot. Many times, that was used as an expression of derision saying, “you don’t think for yourself, you just quote scripture.” What’s wrong with that? When I was a child, we had memory verses weekly. We were quizzed on those verses, and it could have been one we learned 5 weeks ago. We recited the books of the Bible. Sometimes we were asked to recite starting from Isaiah or 2 Corinthians. Sometimes we were asked, “the book before…” I thought they were inventing methods...

Take a Walk - A Very Ritchie Series (No.46)
A mother’s son became very angry and exchanged harsh words. The mother told her son, “go take a walk.” The son complied in disgust. He stomped out of the room then out of the house and began to walk the neighborhood. As he walked, he mumbled to himself complaining about how his mother was unfair. At times he would stomp grumbling as he rehearsed the event. He eventually returned home where his mother was waiting. As he walked up to her, she could see the expression on his face was one of anger. As she asked how he was fe...
Character - Walk with the Lord Series (No.6)
How often do we focus on talent, education, intelligence, or athleticism? In our world it’s the smart, beautiful, witty, and athletic ones we consider successes. If, on the other hand, you’re fat, ugly, dumb, and clumsy you are nobody.
Judging people from the outward has always been around. Nebuchadnezzar did it with Daniel. He thought that because Daniel was good looking he was also be smart. When Samuel went into the house of Jesse, he saw all of David’s brothers. They all looked like kings, but God did not look out the outside: he looks...
Above My Pay Grade - Wise vs Foolish (#1)
“This wisdom I have also seen under the sun, and it seemed great to me: There was a little city with few men in it; and a great king came against it, besieged it, and built great snares around it. Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city. Yet no one remembered that same poor man. Then I said: “Wisdom is better than strength. Nevertheless the poor man’s wisdom is despised, And his words are not heard. Words of the wise, spoken quietly, should be heard Rather than the sh...
I Can Do All Things - A Very Ritchie Series (No.45)
Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”
Our beliefs are challenged. Our honesty as Christians is tested in the face of trouble if we remain honest. We are overwhelmed with work by employment or at home. This is when we recite this passage to revive strength, which is good. But the context of this powerful statement is to be content within our spirit. The strength of Christ is to withstand duress, not overpower it. Paul further describes this strength in Ephesians 3:16-19 and 1 Corinthians 10:13. It is for enduring faith, improved knowledge...

Make His Paths Straight - A Very Ritchie Series (No.44)
This is an old expression which has lost much of its meaning upon us today. Back in the old days (I mean ancient history old) city infrastructure didn't exist. There were no sewers, no running water, only basic roads and few places to stay. No hotels, no restaurants, no Walmart. Long stretches of dirt, gravel and stone were worn down by frequent travel from wagons and animals to form “roads” or “highways.” Travel was slow and difficult much of the time. It took weeks, even months to get anywhere. In addition, you had to bring all the supplies you need with...

Have you ever observed those who complain the most seem to be doing the worst in almost every area of their life, but those who do not complain are doing the best? Who would you rather be around, one who complained or one who controlled what they could control?
Complaining is toxic. It pulls everybody in reach down. It focuses us on the worst in people rather than the best. It demeans God’s gifts rather than using them to glorify Him. And complaining about something we cannot cont...

A Kingdom of Priests - A Very Ritchie Series (No.43)
There is a reason God commanded the children of Israel “thou shalt have no other gods before me” (Exodus 19: 6). God expects his people to be a “holy nation” (2 Peter 3: 9), a people who display him in the very fabric of their lives (Romans 12:1- 2). To “let your light so shine... (Matthew 5: 16) illuminating all life with the light of God. Simply put no idols needed. As John states we are God's image to the world! (1 John 4:12). We do this by being transformed into the image of Christ (John 1: 18, Colossians 1: 15, Hebrews 1: 3, Romans 8: 29).
Living as God's image to mankind is a ch...

I Am Glorified in Them - A Very Ritchie Series (No.42)
John chapter 17 records Jesus’ prayer as he and the apostles left the upper room after the Passover and walked toward the garden of Gethsemane. This prayer is a tremendous study in the interrelationship between God, man, and Jesus’s pivotal role within that relationship. Jesus' words also reveal his desire to honor not only the father but us as well.
There is a very telling phrase in verse 10, “…and I am glorified in them.” In the statements just before this, Jesus speaks of how those of us who believe his words know they are truth from...
Love, Serve and Care - Walk with the Lord Series (No.4)
Do you love what you do? When we love what we do, challenges seem small, adversity is a nuisance, and we overlook rejection. However, if we don’t love what we do, challenges become unconquerable mountains, adversity, an overwhelming fear, and rejection, a statement of our self-worth. All obstacles seem great. The key is for us to do what we love and love what we do. We must be looking, though.
Love is the greatest mark between success and failure. How often do we complain? How often do we criticize? How often do we find fault? Love, on...
