Steiner and his followers were part of the German nationalist movement and shared many characteristics with the Völkisch ariosophists, but had their own unique race theories that drew from theosophical ideas.

George Gurdjieff was never formally a theosophist, but his "doctrine" contained a very similar backstory, and many of his followers were former theosophists. Gurdjieff was a practice-oriented despotic cult leader, whose follwers believed him to be one of the Masters of the Great White Brotherhood described by Helena Blavatsky.

In the fourth episode of our series on Theosophy, Rey talks about the founder of Anthroposophy, Austrian guru Rudolf Steiner. Steiner started started out as a Theosophist, but was much too ambitious and much too German for that movement.
