On July 31, 2022, Dominic Russo and Davion Flanagan were killed in Strongsville, Ohio, when Mackenzie Shirilla intentionally drove her car into a brick wall at over 100 mph. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene. Judge Nancy Margaret Russo found Shirilla guilty of 12 felony counts and sentenced her to two concurrent life sentences with the possibility of parole after 15 years.

On April 2, 2026, the Colorado Court of Appeals reversed the conviction of  Letecia Stauch and ordered a retrial after finding that a biased juror had been improperly allowed to deliberate. Letecia was originally convicted in 2023 of the murder of her 11-year-old stepson Gannon and was sentenced to life in prison.

Investigators found evidence of foul play and have treated the case as a potential kidnapping. Nancy Guthrie, 84, was reported missing from her Tucson, Arizona home on January 31 and is believed by authorities to have been taken against her will. Investigators found evidence of foul play and have treated the case as a potential kidnapping. Communication with alleged kidnappers also ceased after a reported ransom deadline passed, but there has since been surveillance footage of the potential kidnappers released.
