Gold Fields says it intends to press ahead with the deal, which would create the world’s second-largest gold producer with annual output of about 4.1 million ounces. The proposed combination would give Northern Star shareholders 33% of the enlarged group, while Gold Fields is targeting $4 billion to $5 billion in synergies and plans to sell about $4 billion in non-core assets.
