Things We Learned: JB's Belt Buckle Knife and Grandpa's Whittled Piano
What was Grandpa really whittling out on the back porch?
JB, Sandy and Tricia wrap up Monday with Things We Learned. First, the family phone call everybody is talking about: Sandy and Tricia's 17-year-old daughter ran into HEB for breakfast and found the shelves completely cleaned out, so the crew figures somebody must have robbed the place. Then a quick reminder that the Minute to Win It pot has climbed to $425 for the next game.
The coolest lesson of the day is JB's new belt buckle knife, a little blade that pops right out of the buckle because...
Tricia the Line Dance Instructor and an '80s Horror Movie Marathon
Was Tricia really a line dance instructor in Austin?
The long-running gag gets a new twist: maybe she started in Creedmoor and worked her way to Buda. Then Tricia spent the weekend representing all the '80s kids with a scary movie marathon, starting with Poltergeist. Does it still hold up?

The Longhorns' Rare Skid and a Story We Love About Lamb Barbecue
When did a No. 1 team last lose two straight to unranked opponents?
Sandy dug up the answer, 1961, and nobody in the studio wanted to hear it. Then a Story We Love about barbecue in the age of soaring beef prices, after Sandy's $78 brisket dinner for three.

Landry Calls In: Nothing for Breakfast at HEB
How do you find nothing to eat at HEB?
Sandy and Tricia's 17-year-old daughter Landry, fresh off her TV moment at the Run for the Roses, calls in to explain. She went to HEB looking for breakfast and came up empty: ready-made lunches, dinners, soups, salads and wraps everywhere, but nothing grab-and-go for the morning.

Testing Your Spouse: The KIND Bar Wrapper That Sat for Six Days
Are you secretly testing your spouse?
JB is convinced his neat-freak wife leaves one chair alone just to see if he'll ever clean it. Then Tricia shares the story of her friend Kristen, a perfectly spotless kitchen island, and one KIND bar wrapper left at the end of it to see how long it would take her husband to notice.

Insta-Got-Me: JB's Belt Buckle Knife
What did JB buy off Instagram this time?
A good Texan always has a knife in his pocket, but between giant phones, key fobs and wallets with AirTags, JB's pockets are overflowing, and he is not wearing cargo shorts. So his latest impulse buy is a belt with a knife hidden right in the buckle. Sandy thinks it's the dumbest thing in the world. JB's wife says it's great. You decide.

Run for the Roses Recap: Tricia Talks the Whole 5K Walk
Did Tricia stop talking for even one step of the 5K?
JB, Sandy and Tricia look back on the Livestrong Run for the Roses, from seeing Willie out there running with his braids flying to a big shout-out to Haley and Grace. Tricia walked the 5K with JB's wife Erin and daughter Raleigh, and Sandy called it before they even started: once the conversation got going, it wasn't stopping until the finish line.

Story We Love: $5 Parking for Austin's Working Musicians
How do you prove you are a working musician just to get a parking deal?
In this Story We Love, Tricia has good news for players in the live music capital of the world. Metropolis Technologies, the company behind checkout free payment systems in parking garages, plans to let working musicians park in more than 70 of its Austin lots for a flat five dollar fee. That is a big deal when a downtown spot can easily run 30 to 50 bucks.
Of course JB and Sandy immediately start plotting how to qualify. Is a banjo in the back seat enough...
Care Don't Care: Drew Barrymore's Bake Off and the $5.3 Million American Dream
Do you really want to know what the American dream costs now?
In Care Don't Care, Tricia explains why Drew Barrymore hosting the Pillsbury Bake Off Classic might be the worst possible match. She is a famous close talker, and Tricia can already picture her face right up on the desserts everyone else has to taste. JB and Sandy debate whether all that intensity is real, and the comparisons get very creative.
Next comes the American dream checklist of eight milestones, from a house and a car to two kids in college, a wedding, pets and a vacation...
Austin Needs a Summer Sweatbox for Visitors
Ever notice everyone wants to move to Austin on the one perfect weather weekend of the year?
The semi popular JB and Sandy Show kicks off the week from the shadow of the 360 bridge, still sore from a rough Longhorns weekend and marveling at a Chamber of Commerce kind of Sunday. That gives Sandy a big idea: a downtown exhibition sweatbox for all the South by, ACL Fest and F1 visitors, so they can feel what July and August really feel like. And a hotter one that feels like getting into your car.
Then Tricia's first laugh of...
Minute to Win It: Melissa from Bastrop Takes the Cowboys Bonus Shot
Could you name last night's Cowboys score in five seconds for extra time on the clock?
Melissa from Bastrop plays JB and Sandy's Minute to Win It for $400, and Sandy opens with an offer: name the exact score of the Cowboys and Packers game and she gets a minute and 12 seconds instead of a minute. She didn't watch, so it is 60 seconds and Tricia starts firing questions.
Baseball players, baby deer, the USS Texas battleship, rugby, cups in a quart, 101 Dalmatians, the Andes and The Wind in the Willows all fly by before the buzzer. A couple of...
Full Show: Mrs. Runkle Takes a Poo, Adult Happy Meals and Godzilla Hits F1
What kind of toy comes in an adult Happy Meal?
Friday on The JB and Sandy Show opens with a very loud swallow, vest season and Tricia's mortician shoelace joke. Story We Love says goodbye to Austin's digital Whataburger, Stephen Presley breaks down Kelly Clarkson's toy store feud and the I Play Rocky premiere, and Care Don't Care digs into Tricia's lotto side hustle and the food trends of 2027. P. Terry's plans to hand the company to its employees, Catherine from New Braunfels takes on Minute to Win It, and Godzilla is coming to F1.
Later, Brock Purse...
Things We Learned: Mrs. Runkle, the Lotto and the Million Dollar Gift Problem
If you win the lotto, why can't you just hand your buddy a million bucks?
JB, Sandy and Tricia close out the week with Things We Learned. Catherine tried so hard on Minute to Win It and couldn't get there, so the pot grows to $400 for Monday, and the crew explains why it's a different game when the lights are on and the clock is ticking.
Then the children's book Mrs. Runkle Takes a Poo hits its first creative fight: Sandy wants a moral lesson, Tricia just wants poo jokes, and it's a total role reversal. With the...
Sandy Needs a Reboot of His Reboot
Why does it take a year and a half to build a good habit and about six months to lose it?
JB checks in on Sandy's big reboot. Before the show came back on the air April 1st, Sandy had cut out sugar, was taking long morning walks, cold plunging, and had dropped more than 30 pounds. Then the new gig started and all of it went out the window. His comeback week is not going well, unless you count the day he showed up with a banana and a protein shake.
The guys agree it gets harder to...
Sumo Wrestling Comes to Cedar Park
How many sumo matches can you fit into one night when every bout is over in seconds?
Sandy ran into his buddy Pat, who made him promise to tell everybody who listens to 98.1 KVET that he went to the sumo matches last weekend and said it was incredible. It turns out it's a touring league, they ran about 30 matches because they're over so fast, and the best part was watching the little guys manhandle the big guys with nothing but leverage and technique. Now everybody is mad they missed it and wants to see the big guys in their...
Muhammad Ali Biopic The Greatest Coming to Prime
Do you already know everything you need to know about Muhammad Ali?
Sandy feels that way about the Unabomber and OJ, but Amazon Prime's new biopic series The Greatest has him hooked anyway. Will Smith already nailed Ali once. This time it is a series, not one film, and Sandy wants people to remember how politically significant Ali was: he gave up the heavyweight championship for what he believed in and paid the price.
Sandy will watch The Greatest for sure because the general public still underplays how Ali stood on principle. Conviction like that is rare, and...
Stephen Presley: Ella, Riley, and P Diddy Meets a Real Gangster
Did Riley Green take credit for Ella Langley, or did the internet invent a feud?
Stephen Presley from ThunderPop TV and Talking to Dead Celebrities joins with the latest. Riley mentioned Ella on The Voice while recruiting a contestant, Ella looked annoyed online, and romance rumors followed. JB thinks it got blown out of proportion. Then P Diddy ran out of baby oil, got beat up by Jamaican drug lord Christopher Dudus Coke, lost phones for the whole cell block, and picked up more time.
Stephen says Dudus Coke is second-generation cartel and Jamaica gladly handed him over...
Tricia Can't Let Go of the Moody Center Drop-Off
When do you stop driving your 17-year-old to the concert?
Tricia is spiraling about their daughter and a friend driving from Cedar Park to the Moody Center, parking, and walking in alone for Phoebe Bridgers. Sandy says the last thing those girls want is mommy dropping them off. JB remembers unreliable cars to Frank Erwin Center shows, and everyone agrees parents are more protective of daughters. Benefit of the doubt until she proves she cannot handle it, and maybe Phoebe Bridgers really does draw a violent crowd.
Tricia notes other moms share the downtown parking-garage fear, while Sandy...
Cameron Parker: Florida at Texas After Two Rough Weeks
Can Texas stop Ja'Den Barr and the Florida run game after that Cotton Bowl nightmare?
Cameron Parker from AM 1300 The Zone joins JB and Sandy ahead of Florida at DKR. Three weeks ago Florida looked like a contender; then Missouri and South Carolina happened. Texas is coming off what may be the worst loss of the Sarkisian era, stuck in neutral on offense, and still beating itself with turnovers. Pregame starts early on The Zone, and Cam will be at Hook 'em Hangout next to Big Beer Hall in a sweater.
Cameron says self-inflicted wounds define Texas so...
Story We Love: Pickleball Boom Meets Bankruptcy
Is the pickleball gold rush already over?
In this Story We Love, a major indoor pickleball franchise files for bankruptcy and shuts most of its courts. Austin somehow has 70 to 100 venues. JB never bought a racket. The problem: everybody wants to play after 5 p.m., the country-club model is missing, and big footprints cost too much. Lakeway tennis moms are quietly celebrating, and Sandy suggests tying the ball to a string like when you were a kid.
Cedar Park just built a huge facility too, and membership prices made JB walk away. Maybe the city needs pickleball courts...
Livestrong Run for the Roses Is This Sunday
Got a free Sunday morning and a cause worth walking for?
Sandy and JB still have room on their Livestrong Run for the Roses teams. You can register day of, use code iHeart26 online, or just donate if you cannot walk. Livestrong was born in Austin, is hitting 30 years, and helps from the moment someone hears the word cancer through every step after. Sandy and Tricia lost three friends to cancer in the last year alone.
They will be at Auditorium Shores. If your Sunday opened up late, join a team, walk the 5K, or click donate so...
Mrs. Runkle Takes a Poo: The Children's Book
Should a kids' book teach a moral, or just make them laugh about poo?
JB, Sandy and Tricia decide this is the weekend they finally write Mrs. Runkle Takes a Poo. It all goes back to Omaha stockyards, a north wind, and a neighbor with a hairy mole who was not kind. Sandy wants life lessons about smells. JB wants Scooby-Doo mystery kids on e-bikes sniffing out dead rabbits until they find Mrs. Runkle.
The working title stays Mrs. Runkle Takes a Poo, and the gang still has to settle whether the kids solve the smell mystery on...
Brock Purse on No-Lettuce Burgers and Adult Happy Meals
What kind of toy comes in an adult Happy Meal?
Longtime friend of the show Brock Purse, cheeseburger connoisseur, drops the latest trends: lettuce is vanishing from burger joints from Austin to Birmingham, smash burgers are giving way to meaty juicy diner burgers, and a new Smash N Saw just opened on 620 behind Barry Creek.
Then adult Happy Meals at Hank's, Holiday and Hillsdale Farmacy. Brock wants a toy. JB and Sandy spiral into adult-toy jokes, Benedict punchlines, and a reminder that Brock's mama is still alive and listening.
Brock always shows up looking sharp for Saturday...
Stephen Presley: Godzilla Hits F1 and the Fake NFL Player
What happens when Godzilla shows up at a Formula 1 race?
Stephen Presley from ThunderPop TV is back with Godzilla coming to the ATX. The Haas F1 team is teaming up with the studio behind Godzilla to promote the Godzilla Minus One sequel with a monster-themed car, and Tricia, a huge Godzilla fan, finally has a reason to go to F1.
Then a man who pretended to play for the San Francisco 49ers to scam women out of more than a million dollars is getting his own Netflix documentary. Sandy admits he's stuck in an algorithm of a retired...
Minute to Win It: Catherine Needs a Kitten
How many millimeters are in a centimeter? Are you sure?
Catherine from New Braunfels plays JB and Sandy's Minute to Win It for $375, with questions six, seven and eight already in hand. The clock runs through strikeouts, female horses, s'mores, Finding Nemo and the Call of the Wild, but the Kemah boardwalk and the $50 bill trip her up, and one metric question seals it.
She sounds so sad afterward that the crew starts offering flowers, chocolate, s'mores and finally a couple of kittens, and suddenly a regular kitten giveaway sounds like a great idea. Nobody wins today, so...
Story We Love: P. Terry's Plans to Hand the Company to Its Employees
What if the burger joint you love was owned by the people working the counter?
In this Story We Love, Tricia shares how P. Terry's landed in the national spotlight. Patrick and Kathy Terry started with one store, now have 37, and plan to sell their equity over time to an employee ownership trust to help workers buy homes, send kids to college and retire with dignity.
Sandy says P. Terry's took the guilt out of grabbing fast food for the kids after a long day. He loves them, but he has one request for the next location: make...
Care Don't Care: Tricia's Lotto Side Hustle
Would you play the big jackpot or sneak in on the games nobody is watching?
In Care Don't Care, Tricia opens the books on her lotto side business. With Powerball and Mega Millions past a billion combined, she swoops in on the lesser jackpots, and Sandy wonders what world his wife lives in. She loves Bigfoot, Godzilla and lotto, man.
Then Whole Foods predicts the food trends of 2027, from Japanese comfort food to beans, and everyone names a favorite bean. Finally, Apple's new Home View display takes on smart speakers, JB is holding out for a home robot...
Stephen Presley: Kelly Clarkson's Toy Store Feud and the Rocky Movie
Did anybody have Kelly Clarkson feuding with a toy store on their bingo card?
Stephen Presley from ThunderPop TV and the Talking to Dead Celebrities podcast joins JB, Sandy and Tricia. Kelly tried to buy a mechanical singing bird named Molly that wasn't for sale, the shop owner turned out to be a beloved children's book author, and now the bird costs $15 million. Stephen says the store is winning in the court of public opinion.
Then the I Play Rocky movie gets a Texas premiere at the Austin Film Festival, 50 years after the original, and the gang marvels...
Story We Love: Austin's Digital Whataburger Shuts Down
Can a kiosk ever replace a breakfast on a bun after a long night out?
In this Story We Love, Tricia reports that one of Whataburger's most futuristic experiments has come to an end in Austin. The drive-through only digital kitchen on Bee Caves Road, where you ordered ahead or punched it into a kiosk, closed after about three years. JB and Sandy remember what used to sit on that corner, and Sandy has a warning for a certain taco place that switched to kiosks.
Then the crew celebrates the enthusiastic employees who make a place great, and...
Tricia's Zombie Apocalypse Shoelace Prank
Have you ever heard yourself swallow on the radio?
It's Friday, the cool weather finally rolled into Austin, and the semi popular JB and Sandy Show opens with a very loud swallow, Longhorns game day plans and a fall fashion confession. Sandy is all about a Longhorn vest, with or without a hoodie, and whoever invented the thumb holes in hoodie sleeves deserves to be handsomely rewarded.
Then Tricia's first funny comes from a mortician who ties the shoelaces of the dead together, because if there's ever a zombie apocalypse, it will be hilarious. That leads to baseball...

What do you do when your childhood sitcom stars are gone and you are the last to find out?
Thursday's Things We Learned wraps The JB and Sandy Show with the good news first: Muni is saved, hooray, so where does the energy go next? Peter Pan? Or the Barton Springs salamander chiming in with save sexy scissors?
Then Sandy discovers both Laverne and Shirley have passed, Penny Marshall in 2018 and Cindy Williams in 2023, and Tricia still does not keep up with the dead. Cue the Shlemiel Schlemazl song request, Lenny and Squiggy, and a whole...
Home Alone at 8 and the Funniest Daycare Names
When did your parents stop calling the babysitter?
Sandy says one of the best parts of parenthood is the day you no longer need a sitter. JB was home alone by eight. Tricia was babysitting newborn cousins at ten while the grown-ups hit the honky-tonk, and her uncle ended up in the bathtub with the shower curtain. She babysat for Tarrytown attorneys well into her late twenties, and Sandy once asked a base nursery worker why she was so ugly.
Then the gang names daycares: the Tantrum Factory, the Leering Center, Resting Crib Face, Tiny Humans...
Muni Is Saved. Sandy Kind of Wishes It Were a Park
What does Austin do now that the coyote caught the roadrunner?
Muni looks saved, and the crew compares it to the end of a war. The plan still needs the November 19 council vote: the city runs the golf course while UT keeps the land, so no more fights every six months.
Then Sandy says the unpopular thing. He doesn't golf, and with Zilker packed with big events, he kind of wishes it were an open park. JB has a theory about which Tarrytown kids would actually use it.

Story We Love: Tesla's Flying Roadster and Tricia's Need for Speed
Should you need a special license for a car that does 0 to 60 in 1.9 seconds?
In this Story We Love, Elon Musk is set to reveal the long-awaited Tesla Roadster in Waco, nine years after promising it would lift off the ground. JB explains what a roadster actually is, and he says most people aren't ready for cars this fast.
Then Sandy outs Tricia: she hits the ramp onto 360 doing 85 in her Ford Explorer. Plus Elon's believers, flying cars and catching rockets with giant chopsticks.

Tricia Doesn't Keep Up With the Dead
Did you know Penny Marshall is gone?
Milwaukee leading the Dodgers in the NLCS feels like 1935 to Sandy, and all he can picture is Laverne sitting behind home plate. Tricia had no idea Penny Marshall had passed, and it turns out this happens a lot. She found out about Johnny Carson recently too.
So JB and Sandy hold a celebrity obituaries segment, Laverne and Shirley edition, with Cindy Williams, Lenny, Squiggy and Carmine. Then Tricia gets the breaking news about Lucille Ball.

Robot Shoulder Surgery and JB's Fall Funk
Should a robot be swinging the hammer in your knee replacement?
Sandy runs down who's signed up for the Livestrong Run for the Roses, including Dr. Rob Graham, the surgeon who did Sandy's shoulder and just performed his first robotic shoulder surgery. JB has questions about the saws and hammers.
Then a cold front is coming and the days are getting shorter. JB goes into a funk every fall because he loves long summer nights, while Tricia can't wait: winter yoga pants, soup for dinner, cornbread with chili, hot chocolate and the winter blanket on the...
Minute to Win It: Steven Gets Tripped Up by a Baby Pig
How many players start on a hockey team, anyway?
Steven from Liberty Hill calls in to play Minute to Win It for $350, and he came ready with questions six, seven and eight already in hand. Then the clock starts. Hockey turns into a guessing game, the baby pig question gets an answer you have to hear, and a card game with a kitty and tricks stops him cold.
Steven nearly won it yesterday too, so the pot grows and the game goes on.

Story We Love: Muni Is Saved, So Is Peter Pan Next?
What does Austin fight about now that Muni looks saved?
In this Story We Love, a deal is in place for the city to run Lions Municipal Golf Course on land UT still owns, thanks to donors who stepped up with a big contribution. It still needs the City Council vote on November 19. JB, Sandy and Tricia dig into how well the city might run a golf course, the land's history, and Muni's place on the National Register as one of the first public courses in the South to desegregate.
We saved Dirty's, we saved Muni...
Care Don't Care: AI Researchers Take Up Smoking
Would you start smoking to prove AI will cure cancer?
In Care Don't Care, Tricia reports on AI cancer researchers lighting up to show how much they believe in the tech. Then a new world record for her series on records that mean nothing: a man catches 20 paper airplanes in his mouth in one minute, and JB is more impressed with the thrower. Finally, what a teal pumpkin on a porch means at Halloween, and no, it is not a Steiner Ranch swingers signal.
Plus the best part of trick-or-treating: dumping the candy, sorting it into...
