As it is "Breast Cancer Awareness Month", Nevada Regional Medical Center COO, Holly Bush, and Marketing Director, Jennifer Eaton were on the program to talk about the need for women to schedule their annual mammogram. They talk about who should get the mammogram and what are the risk factors. They also talked about how to schedule an appointment.

Vernon County United Way board president Shelby Lightwine appeared on the program to discuss their upcoming Oktoberfest celebration. Oktoberfest is used as a fundraiser for the fifteen agencies they support with funding. The agencies are all local, serving Nevada and Vernon County residents. Oktoberfest is a carnival-type event bringing people out to the Vernon County Fairgrounds.

The money is pooled to be able to provide assets for various projects in Nevada and Vernon County.

At a cost of about $300,000, Chief McKlintic talked about what the new system will provide in terms of upgrades and protection. The installation process is expected to begin in October.

The first Nevada (MO) "Tiger Talk" program of the season features the initial weekly visit between Mike Harbit and Nevada head football coach Wes Beachler as the Tigers prepare for their season opener at the Monett Cubs. Also on the program is an interview with Athletic Director David Hawks.

Today on Update, I am talking with Dr. Stephanie Niles, President of Cottey College in Nevada. Dr. Niles will be highlighting several exciting changes to Cottey this Fall. First, they will be implementing a four-term academic year. Fall Semester consists of a two-week mini term, followed by a seven-week course. This schedule is repeated during the Spring Semester. Another change, coming to Cottey, is the introduction of online courses. Finally, there will be a new credit system where courses will now be worth four credits instead of three.
