The Day of Atonement (Leviticus 16)
In Leviticus 16, God tells Moses and Aaron to set aside a very special day called the Day of Atonement, a day when God would graciously forgive the sins of His people.
On this special day, the high priest would enter the Most Holy Place in the Tabernacle, a place he could only enter once a year!
God also instructed the high priest to take two goats.
The first goat would be sacrificed, and its blood would be offered to make atonement for the sins of the people.<...
The Israelites Get a Pastor (Leviticus 8-9)
In Leviticus 8, God tells Moses to appoint priests to help lead the Israelites in worship, including the five offerings we learned about in Leviticus chapters 1–7.
And guess who God chooses for this important job? Moses’ brother Aaron and Aaron’s sons!
Now, this is an incredible picture of God’s grace!
Remember Aaron? Back in Exodus, he was the one who helped lead the Israelites into sin by making a golden cow for the people to worship instead of God!
Aaron had made a terrible mistake. But God was not finished with him...
Five Offerings and One Gracious God (Leviticus 1-7)
The book of Leviticus begins with detailed descriptions in Chapters 1 through 7 of how the Israelites are to approach God in the Tabernacle with five unique offerings.
In God's grace, he accepts these offerings and uses them to remind the people of his forgiveness, love and provision. It is a beautiful image of grace and a foreshadowing of the ultimate offering, Jesus Christ!
God Moves In (Exodus 40)
In Exodus, chapters 35-40, God gives Moses and the Israelites detailed instructions on what the tabernacle will look like, the place where God's presence will dwell among the people!
Then in Exodus 40, God moves in! This completes the incredible story of the Book of Exodus from slaves in Egypt in chapter 1, to being free and walking with God in the desert towards the promised land in Exodus 40!
Our God is an Awesome God (Exodus 33 and 34)
In Exodus 33, Moses asks to see the glory of God. This is a huge request that Moses didn't even fully understand. But God, in his grace, hides Moses in the crack of a boulder, covers him with his mighty hand, and reveals part of his glory to Moses! Why only part? Because God's glory is so powerful, so majestic, so awesome, that no human can see the entire glory of God and live!
Until Jesus comes along, and as John 1:14 tells us, "the word becomes flesh." God's glory comes into our world in the person of Jesus...
Don't Worship a Cow! (Exodus 32)
Can you imagine being willing to worship a cow?
I mean, have you ever been around a cow? They smell, they chew their food loudly, and they aren't exactly friendly!
But in Exodus Chapter 32,
The Israelites in the desert begged Moses' brother Aaron to build them a golden calf to worship while Moses was missing on Mount Sinai.
When Moses came down the mountain and saw what the people were doing, he was furious! But then we see an act of grace, and Moses goes before God and asks for their forgiveness!
The 10 Commandments (Exodus 20)
In Exodus Chapter 20 (and also Deuteronomy 5), we read about Moses and the Israelites receiving the 10 commandments from God at Mount Sinai.
It is a huge moment in the life of God's people! They are given formal laws and rules to follow as they obey and walk with God.
The 10 commandments must have been convicting for the Israelites (and us today!) to hear. I mean, who hasn't lied?! But these commandments point us toward the one who would obey perfectly, Jesus Christ!
Manna for Breakfast (Exodus 16)
In Exodus 16, the Israelite people begin to complain (it won't be the first or the last time!). They are hungry and there isn't much to eat. God in his grace, hears their cries and provides something incredible.
Each morning, the Moses and the Israelites wake up to a fresh layer of "manna" (kind of like bread) on the ground! For the next 40 years, they no longer have to worry about making breakfast, they simply go outside and scoop up some delicious manna! I wonder if it had protein? Hahahaha...
But there was one catch. The...
The Parting of the Red Sea (Exodus 13 and 14)
In Exodus 13 and 14, God's people, the Israelites are finally given freedom to leave Egypt, and God leads them through the desert with a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night until they reach the Red Sea.
But then Pharaoh changes his mind and takes his army and begins chasing the Israelites. The Israelites are stuck; they can't get through the Red Sea, and Pharaoh's army is trapping them from behind.
That is when God performs one of the most amazing miracles in the Bible: the parting of the Red Sea...
The Passover and the Lamb that Saved (Exodus 11 and 12)
In Exodus, chapters 11 and 12, God told Moses that one final plague was coming upon Egypt.
During the night, the firstborn son in every Egyptian household would die. This was a terrible and heartbreaking judgment.
But God also gave the Israelites special instructions so that their families could be protected. Each family was to choose a lamb, a healthy, spotless lamb without anything wrong with it.
They were to sacrifice the lamb and take some of its blood and put it on the sides and top of...
Pharaoh and the Plagues (Exodus 7-10)
Today on Doxology GO, we’re going to meet someone who kept saying NO to God. And as a result, he got to meet a lot of frogs, gnats, flies and grasshoppers among other things!
Who kept saying no to God?? His name was Pharaoh, the king of Egypt.
Yesterday, we learned that God spoke to Moses from a burning bush and gave Moses a HUGE job. God told Moses to go back to Egypt and tell Pharaoh: “Let my people go!”
The Israelites had been slaves in Egypt for many, many years. God ha...
Moses and His Excuses (Exodus 4)
In Exodus 4:10, Moses says: “O Lord, I’m not very good with words…I get tongue-tied, and my words get tangled.”
Moses basically says:
“God, I can’t do this! I’m not a good enough speaker!”
But listen to God's answer in verse 12:
“Now go! I will be with you as you speak, and I will instruct you in what to say.”
God didn't tell Moses:
“Oh Moses, you're actually an AMAZING speaker! Believe in yourself!”
No!
God told Moses something...
Moses and the Burning Bush (Exodus 3)
In Exodus 3, Moses sees a Burning Bush in the middle of the desert, near Mount Sinai….And even though the bush is on fire, it never burns us!
Moses is amazed and gets closer and then something even MORE amazing happens in Verse 4,5,6 of Exodus 3:
4 When the Lord saw Moses coming to take a closer look, God called to him from the middle of the bush, “Moses! Moses!”
“Here I am!” Moses replied. 5 “Do not come any closer,” the Lord warned. “Take off your sandals, for you are standing on holy ground.
Baby in a Basket (Exodus 1 and 2)
In Exodus Chapter 2, verses 1, 2, and 3 tell us about an Israelite family who had a baby boy.
Now a man of the tribe of Levi married a Levite woman, 2 and she became pregnant and gave birth to a son. When she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him for three months. 3 But when she could hide him no longer, she got a papyrus basket[a] for him and coated it with tar and pitch. Then she placed the child in it and put it among the reeds along the bank of the Ni...
What You Meant for Harm, God Meant for Good (Genesis 50)
In Genesis 50:20, Joseph tells his brothers,
“You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good...”
Wow!
Joseph wasn't saying that what his brothers did was good.
It wasn't good. It was wrong.
But Joseph had learned something about God.
God is so powerful and so good that He can take even the bad things people do and use them to accomplish His good purposes!
Joseph Forgives His Brothers (Genesis 45)
In Genesis, chapter 45, verses 1 and 2 we read,
"Joseph could stand it no longer. There were many people in the room, and he said to his attendants, “Out, all of you!” So he was alone with his brothers when he told them who he was. 2 Then he broke down and wept. He wept so loudly the Egyptians could hear him, and word of it quickly carried to Pharaoh’s palace."
Then in Verse 3 of Genesis 45, Joseph said:
“I am Joseph!”
Can you imagine his brothers' faces?
Wait...JOSEPH?!
The broth...
Joseph's Brothers Don't Recognize Him (Genesis 42-44)
Genesis 42 tells us the famine wasn't only in Egypt. It reached all the way back to the land where Joseph's family lived. And Joseph's dad, Jacob, heard something: There was food in Egypt!
So Jacob sent ten of his 11 sons to Egypt to buy food. Wait a second...Jacob's sons? That means...
JOSEPH'S BROTHERS WERE COMING TO EGYPT!
These were the same brothers who had been jealous of Joseph.
The same brothers who threw him into a pit.
The same brothers who sold him as a slave.
Joseph and the Fat Cows (Genesis 41)
In Genesis 41, Pharaoh knew these dreams were important, but he had no idea what they meant. And neither did anyone else!
And THAT'S when the cupbearer suddenly remembered something.
Or more importantly...someone.
JOSEPH!
The cupbearer told Pharaoh about the young man he had met in prison who had correctly explained his dream. So Pharaoh sent for Joseph.
Can you imagine this moment? Pharaoh wanted to talk to HIM! Pharaoh told Joseph that he had heard Joseph could understand dreams.
But listen to Joseph's answer in Genesis 41:16:<...
Joseph and the Dreamers (Genesis 40)
In Genesis 40, Joseph wanted the cupbearer to tell Pharaoh that Joseph had been put in prison even though he hadn't done anything wrong.
You would think the cupbearer would run straight to Pharaoh and say,“Hey! There's this guy named Joseph in prison. He helped me! You've got to hear his story!”
But Genesis 40 ends with some really sad words. It says in Genesis, Chapter 40, verse 23: “The chief cupbearer, however, did not remember Joseph; he forgot him.”
He forgot Joseph!
After everything Joseph had been through...
His brothers had thro...
Joseph is Blamed for Something He Didn't Do (Genesis 39)
In Genesis, Chapter 39…
We read about a time Joseph was blamed for something he didn’t do!
If you remember from yesterday’s episode, Joseph was thrown into a pit by his own brothers who were angry and jealous of him because of his special coat and his crazy dreams…
Then Joseph’s brothers felt bad about leaving him in a pit…
So they sold him to some passing businessmen, and those businessmen took him all the way to Egypt, about a two-week journey from Joseph’s hometown…
It was in Egypt that Jo...
Joseph and His Jealous Brothers (Genesis 37)
In Genesis 37:3, the Bible tells us that Jacob, the Dad, gives his son Joseph a fancy coat…
He plays favorites and only gives this special coat to Joseph…
This makes the other 11 brothers really mad, I mean really mad…
Then, in Genesis 37:5-11, Joseph has 2 dreams…
And in both dreams, he sees his brothers bowing down to him as their leader!
This makes his brothers even more mad!
In fact, Verse 11 of Chapter 37 tells us that they were overwhelmed with jealousy…
Throughout the first generations of people...
The Twin Brothers Forgive Each Other (Genesis 33)
Years earlier, Jacob had tricked Esau out of his birthright.
Then Jacob tricked their father, Isaac, and received the special blessing that Esau had expected.
Esau was furious!
Jacob became so afraid that he ran away from home.
But now, about 20 years later, Jacob was coming home.
And Genesis 33 tells us that Jacob looked up and saw Esau coming toward him...
with 400 men!
Uh-oh.
What do you think Jacob was thinking?
Maybe:
"Is Esau still angry?"
"Is he...
Jacob and the Wrestling Match (Genesis 32)
Something strange happens in Genesis 32:24...
“So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak.”
Who is this mysterious man, and why does he wrestle with Jacob all night? During the struggle, the man touches Jacob’s hip and knocks it out of place. But Jacob continues holding on and says:
“I will not let you go unless you bless me.”
What is happening in this story?
In Genesis 32:30, Jacob realizes that this mysterious visitor was somehow God himself!
Jacob names the place Peniel, saying:
Jacob and the Rock Pillow (Genesis 28)
Jacob wakes up from a dream and proclaims in Genesis 28:16,
“Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it.”
Jacob had gone to sleep thinking he was in the middle of nowhere.
But when he woke up, he realized that God was right there with him.
Jacob took the stone he had used as a pillow, stood it up like a pillar, and poured oil over it. He named the place Bethel, which means “house of God.”

Jacob and a Hairy Lie (Genesis 27)
In Genesis 27, there is a lot of pretending.
Jacob puts on someone else's clothes with the help of his Mom…
He covers his hands so they feel like someone else's hands.
He tells his father he is someone else.
Jacob pretends to be Esau because he desperately wants his father's blessing.
But here's what I love about the good news of Jesus:
You never have to pretend with God.
You don't have to pretend you've never messed up.
You don't have to pretend to...
Jacob, Esau and a Bowl of Soup (Genesis 25)
In Genesis 25, Esau came home from being out hunting, and he was absolutely starving.
He sees his brother's Jacob's soup and basically says:
“Give me some of that! I'm starving!”
Seems like a pretty normal request from your brother, right?
But Jacob says in Genesis 25:31:
“First, sell me your birthright.”
Wait…WHAT?
A bowl of soup for a birthright?
You might be wondering: What's a birthright?
In their culture, the oldest, first born son normally received a...
Rebecca and the 10 Thirsty Camels (Genesis 24)
In Genesis chapter 24, Isaac isn't a little boy anymore.
He's about 40 years old!
And Abraham realizes that it's time for Isaac to (finally) get married.
But Abraham didn't want Isaac to marry just anyone. Abraham wanted Isaac to have a wife who followed God and was woman of humble, loving and generous (If you are kid, it might sound weird to tell you this now, but Who you marry really matters…Your spouse will impact your life more than anyone else…So you want to make a wise decision…_
Abraham gives an unn...
Abraham, Isaac and the God Who Provides (Genesis 22)
In Genesis 22, Abraham and Isaac traveled up a mountain together.
As they walked, Isaac noticed something.
They had wood for the sacrifice, and they had everything else they needed, but they didn't have the normal sacrifice, which would have been an animal, usually a lamb…
So Isaac asked his dad, "Where is the lamb?"
And Abraham gave an amazing answer in Genesis 22, verse 8:
"God himself will provide the lamb."
Abraham trusted that somehow God would keep His promises.
And sure enough, at just the right mo...
Ishmael and the God Who Hears (Genesis 21:17-19)
Out in the middle of the wilderness, with no water when Ishmael probably felt completely alone…God heard him!
In fact, do you know what the name Ishmael means in Ancient Hebrew?
It means: “God hears.”
How cool is that?
Every time someone said Ishmael’s name, it was a reminder:
God hears.
And guess what? GOD HEARS YOU TOO!
Sometimes you might feel like nobody understands what you’re going through, maybe you're scared about something, maybe someone at school hurt your feelings, maybe you're wor...
Episode 15: The Birth of Isaac! (Genesis 18 and 21)
In Genesis 18:13 we read,
"Then the Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and say, ‘Will I really have a child, now that I am old?’ 14 Is anything too hard for the Lord?...”
This is an incredible scene!
3 mysterious visitors visit Abraham and Sarah…
And they remind Abraham and Sarah that God has promised them children.
Sarah laughs! Not because the visitors tell a joke…
No she laughs because what they tell her and Abraham seems so unbelievable!
Have you ever heard something so unbelievable that it made...
Episode 14: Abram and Sarai Receive New Names (Genesis 17)
In Genesis 17, God restores Abram and Sara with an “I” despite their sin
and gives them new names…To Abram, he becomes Abraham.
To Sarai, she becomes Sarah with an “H” at the end of her name rather than an “I”…
The names are so similar to their old names, SO what is the big deal?
Well, to both Abram and Sarai’s names, God added the Hebrew letter heh (H) to their names, which comes from the sacred name of God (YHWH), signifying that God's presence and power were stamped upon their lives…T...
Episode 13: Abram's Nephew Lot (Genesis 13)
Today, we learn about Abram's nephew, Lot and his choice to move next to a wicked city (Sodom) and how that choice impacted his life.
Those we live near, next and with influence our lives more than we realize, so be careful who influences you, but also never be afraid to love people who need Jesus.
Choose friends who help you follow Jesus.
And then, together, move toward people who need to know how much Jesus loves them.
Episode 12: Abram was Blessed to be a Blessing (Genesis 12:2-3)
God didn’t bless Abram just so Abram could have a comfortable life and write hashtag blessed on his Instagram posts!
“I will bless you... and you will be a blessing.” — Genesis 12:2
God blessed Abram so that Abram’s life could ultimately be a blessing to others. Think about the difference between a swimming pool and a river.
A swimming pool stores water and holds onto it and the water doesn’t leave the pool!. (Unless you do one of those big cannonball dives!)
But a river receives water and then kee...
Episode 11: Abram is Called to Go (Genesis 12:1,4)
Genesis 12:1 says,
“The Lord had said to Abram, ‘Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.’”
Did you catch what God told Abram to do?
GO.
Leave your country.
Leave your cousins, your siblings, even your parents…
Leave your home.
Leave everything that feels familiar and comfortable…
…and go to a land that I will show you.
But there was one pretty important detail missing.
God didn’t tell Abram exactly...
Episode 10: The Giant Tower (Genesis 11)
After the flood waters went down and, Noah’s family and the animals got off the boat, Noah’s family grew and grew.
Before long, there were many people living on Earth again.
At that time, everyone spoke the same language, so everyone could understand each other.
One day, a group of people had a really bad idea:
“Let’s build a huge tower that reaches toward the sky!”
Now Building a tall tower wasn’t the problem. The problem was why they wanted to build it.
They said...
Episode 9: The Rainbow (Genesis 9)
After the Ark, and the animals and the flood and the dove with a olive leaf in its beak, God made a covenant with Noah.
(A covenant is a special promise—a promise that God will keep.)
After the flood, God promised Noah that He would never again destroy the whole earth with a flood.
And guess what?
God is still keeping that promise today!
But God also gave Noah something he could see to remind him of that promise.
Do you know what it was?
...
Episode 8: The Dove (Genesis 8)
The Dove grabbed one small olive leaf in its beak.
But that one small leaf was significant.
Because that little leaf meant:
"There are trees out there."
And if there are trees growing...
the water is going down.
And if the water is going down...
the earth is becoming livable again.
And if the earth is becoming livable again...
God is keeping his promise and giving them a new beginning.
Sometimes a small sign can remind us that God...
Episode 7: Noah and the Ark (Genesis 6 and 7)
Noah obeyed God even before he saw the rain.
But when it started raining, oh wow, did it ever rain.
it didn’t stop raining for 40 days and 40 nights, and the ENTIRE earth was covered in Water. Only Noah and his family were saved.
However, the story of Noah isn’t just about a really big boat and a bunch of animals. It’s also a rescue story. Just like Noah needed to be rescued, we need to be rescued from our sin too. God didn’t send us a wooden ark, He sent us one w...
Note to Parents About the "Why" Behind Doxology GO
Here is a brief explanation of the "why" behind doing this podcast and the way we hope it encourages you to intentionally disciple and spiritually encourage your kids as you spend (a lot of!) time in the car!
Episode 1: In the Beginning (Genesis 1)
The Bible begins in Genesis Chapter 1, Verse 1 with four simple words:
“In the beginning God…”
The Bible begins with God because the Bible is all about God!
Your story begins and starts with God, too. Whether you are 4, 7, 11, 17, 37 or 77…
God made you.
God loves you.
And in your life story, God invites you to know and follow Him.
